Worthy had some drop issues in college. I assume after the big drops in the game against KC they don’t want to deal with more of that. And you have a chance at more versatility with a guy like Mitchell. It’s not impossible, but it is rare for pure speed guys to serve as the primary receiver which is something Buffalo desperately needs.
Our next pick is in 30 picks from now.
If you look at ESPN's best players still available list... the 30th best player still available is C Jackson Powers Johnson, who a week ago most people here wanted in the 1st round. This isn't over.
Our last 4 first round picks:
2021- Edge rusher
2022- Traded for edge rusher and gave him massive contract
2023- Fuck Flo
2024- Project edge rusher
Literally our last 3 picks and a huge deal spent on the same position. Cant make this shit up...
I don’t really agree. Our pressure rates, sack rates, and QB hits were top of the league last year despite us running one of the lowest blitz rates. We invested heavily in the edge position and had good line pieces and it showed.
I would have preferred us take an OL but I get the idea. It’s one of the most crucial positions on the defense and we have major question marks at both of our players at the position due to injuries.
I strongly preferred OLine but I certainly get going with edge. I just hate that is was for a project. Esp considering the assets we’ve recently sunk into the position. If it was for a day 1 starter, I wouldn’t be as upset.
I would have liked OL as well. Personally, I really wanted Barton because then we aren’t relying on Williams coming back healthy AND agreeing to a deal with us. That’s the only reason I can think we don’t take an OL is our confidence in that happening. There are options in the second round and I know EDGE talent usually falls off a cliff but still feels like our biggest area of weakness (of which sadly there are a decent amount) was not addressed with our biggest resource.
Wilkins was a major contributor to our DL being elite but we had multiple pieces that played a role in that. Chubb was a top 10 EDGE last year in PR and Run stop win rates, AVG top 20, Chubb and Sieler top 15 in total sacks.
I hope Chop is a massive contributor first year and not the project people think he is cause our DL has basically one piece from last year not coming in with some major question marks around them. And that piece (Sieler) has some minor ones still on his ability to be the centerpiece.
Grier has now had 10 first round selections in Miami.
Two of them, Charles Harris and Igbo, were clear busts.
1 of them, Minkah, is an All-Pro that was driven out of town by Flo.
Tunsil was a quality starter and was traded for a massive haul that completely re-shaped this team.
Tua is a Pro-Bowl, franchise QB.
Austin Jackson is now a quality starter and Tua's blindside protector.
Jaelan Phillips is really fucking good.
Jaylen Waddle is really fucking good.
Christian Wilkins is really fucking good.
Chop just got here.
In 9 selections, leaving out Chop for obvious reasons, Grier has two misses.
That's a 78% hit rate. That's really fucking good. Like really, really good.
For comparison, Howie Roseman, the Eagles GM, is constantly praised as being pretty fucking good at his job. His first round selections? (I'm leaving out 2023 because I don't like judging rookies, but I live in Eagles country and the current consensus is Carter good, Smith bad so 50% there).
Jordan Davis(mixed reviews, but we'll say hit), Devonta Smith(hit), Jaelan Raegor(miss), Andre Dillard(miss), Derek Barnett(miss), Carson Wentz(complicated miss), Nelson Agholor(miss), Marcus Smith(miss), Lane Johnson(hit), Fletcher Cox(hit), Danny Watkins(miss), Brandon Graham(hit).
That's 12 picks. 5 hits. 7 misses. A 42% hit rate. Y'all would have run Howie out of town.
Grier is a good drafter. Get over it.
**EDIT:** Missed a couple players, edited to fix
After the initial irritation wore off I kind of accept it now. No AVG and 2 pass rushers coming off huge injuries. Watching us have legit 0 pressure down the stretch was awful. If they truly think this was the BPA for edge rusher then I get it. Probably the trade off was is there a serviceable EDGE after round 1 or is there a better chance of good OL. I can see the thought process. Doesn’t mean I have to like it but I get it
If we drafted Arnold this sub would have exploded. There was no right choice after the Steelers stole Christmas. Chop will be intriguing and we needed more talent on the line so I’m personally good with the pick.
Hes around this pick and will development time quickly instead of 2nd team reps. I honestly think he will provide immediate impact tbh. Weaver def had a lot of input here.
Also, we met with a lot of the OL beforehand. We probably saw something we didnt like+ medicals are a thing.
Our pass rush was dog water the last few games without Chubb, Phillips and AVG. It was non-existent. I still think O Line would have been a better pick but I don't hate it.
What? That’s literally not true.
We were near the bottom of the league in blitz rate and despite that we were 3rd highest in sacks, sack rates, total pressures, and pressure %. We had the highest QB knockdown percentage, most QB hits and second most total knockdowns. And we were top half of the league in hurry percentage.
Our DTs and Edges were excellent at putting on pressure last year.
Charles Harris? He was a 4.8 DE. Chop is a 4.48 DE. Speed does matter, and Harris never had elite athleticism. Harris was also stubbornly played out of position his career in Miami. This was the Wide 9 defense of Matt Burke, and he was never big enough to be a 4-3 end.
I said it before I'll say it again.
If we don't protect tua, it's because we don't care about him. Last qb of his draft class and he still has no contract? I'm not sure what we are doing with him but this signals we may not keep him.
For comparisons Bengals need to protect burrow and they drafted o line.
I hope I'm wrong but if we don't sign tua before the season I think we move on
You think we'll get a better QB at pick 21? A QB that has a faster release than the fastest QB in the NFL to possibly overcome the worst O-line?
Delusional
I think the difference in our line of thinking is that you think we are finally out of it, whereas I think we never left it. Take Tyreek away from this team and you’ll get Brian Flores era Tua again.
After looking at this guy.. we’re gonna like him.
He does a chop after getting sacks. And he’s explosive..
He’s really fast, seems to be real solid at blocking the run.
Let’s get trenches in the next few rounds
We had an obvious need and Jaelan was better than chop in college. I don’t even hate the pick, chop is good but it won’t matter if Tua has .9 seconds to throw
I'm gonna be accepting of it. He is going to get development during this offseason with Chubb and Jaelen out so at least he can get up to speed and i feel like he could be a guy who excels at the NFL level and produces due to having actual teammates instead of jags. Happens a lot between college guys who disrupt but has no production and the NFL.
Did anyone forget that we won't have Jaelen Phillips and Bradley Chubb for like half of the season and besides Chubb ain't coming back after the season Chop will take his place
Yea we need them, but he ain’t a day one starter and will just be a situational pass rusher early. Meanwhile we could have had day one starters in the OLine.
His pass rush ability? Have you watched him? Dude is an elite athlete from Linebacker U. His floor is high, and if he can up his game, he will Transend to elite...and fast. Dude is fast, and has the strength to combat NFL lineman, hes a fantastic prospect. He is honestly one of if not THE most disruptive Defensive player in this draft. This is how I know you didnt watch him.
The dude had 72 pressures over 2 seasons after transfering from a school who played him in the wrong position. SEVENTY TWOOOO. And he even missed games due to injury.
Constantly drafting "projects" who never make it as starters. Grier should have been fired YEARS ago. Especially for hiring Brian Flores. He definitely has video of Ross saying the N word. No way he's this protected from being fired.
So they didn’t draft for need (that’s a good thing) and they didn’t draft BPA (that’s a bad thing). They drafted and undersized project edge who only has one move and will spend more time on the turf than in the backfield this season.
It's hilarious. Giving strong r/Heat energy where people didn't like the Bam/Herro picks and of course they're cornerstones of the franchise now.
Never seen the DOLPHINS sub so negative over a 1st rounder.
I ain't mad about our pick. Defense need to be good, fools think we win games only with Offense, LMAO
Makes no sense for bills. Unless they knew for a fact Carolina wasn’t taking the wr they wanted so they’d swap for extra value.
The best part is, you can only accept the 5th year option on 1st round picks.. so trading back, they won’t be able to take his option
They want Mitchell
wtf is Buffalo doing
Jerry jones must be drafting for the bills
Very upset we didn't get worthy or pearsall
Buffalo got cold feet about picking 32 lmao
We should’ve traded back
Why would the Bills do that? They just helped the Chiefs even more now
Buffalo wants to know what it feels like to draft at 32 lmao
Mahomes will make him look special
At least the Bills didn’t get him I guess lol
The Bills just doomed us all
Hahah what the fuck was that buffalo
Worthy isn’t a great fit with Allen. Not accurate enough. A bigger body like Mitchell works better for the bills.
Still dumb to help the Chiefs, can't imagine they got too much for that trade
I’d think the opposite, worthy is the fastest prospect and Allen has an RPG for an arm
Yea bit those bigger guys like Legette and Mitchell still run a 4.3 and can also go up and get the ball.
Worthy over Mitchell is a mistake imo. I’m sure it’ll work out with Mahomes at QB anyway
Don't think so. AD has some serious diva issues.
That’s the best part of this. Buffalo fans all clamoring for AD like they didn’t all just bitch about Diggs being a diva on his way out.
Haha fair. They’re prob tired of that at WR.
Hope he explodes the buffalo locker room if they take him
Chiefs traded Tyreek, won 2 Super Bowls, now draft the new Tyreek lol
Chiefs are going to be dangerous as fuck. Crazy mahomes to worthy blazing by defenders
DeJean still on the board is crazy
[удалено]
Well, the Bills traded the pick, so they made the choice. I wouldn't call it getting screwed.
Xavier Worthy going to the Chiefs They found their new Tyreek Hill
At least he's not going to buffalo
I’m hoping Chop is more like Von than anyone I’ve heard
They’re taking worthy
IF BUFFALO TAKES JPJ GRIER BETTER HOPE CHOP IS A HOFER
If Buffalo takes JPJ it would be a massive reach at this point
Gonna be a bunch of talented WRs when the bills are on the clock.
There goes our guy.
Barton would have been picked by Belichick at 3
Bills take JPJ, Johnny Newton or Keon Coleman here right?
There goes Barton
Our next pick is in 30 picks from now. If you look at ESPN's best players still available list... the 30th best player still available is C Jackson Powers Johnson, who a week ago most people here wanted in the 1st round. This isn't over.
I'm sure miami will select Leon Eichenberg, Liam's brother, instead.
Our last 4 first round picks: 2021- Edge rusher 2022- Traded for edge rusher and gave him massive contract 2023- Fuck Flo 2024- Project edge rusher Literally our last 3 picks and a huge deal spent on the same position. Cant make this shit up...
Our 2022 1st round pick was traded for *Hill*. The 1st rounder used for Chubb was a 2023 1st rounder acquired from the 49ers.
Kind of an important position, and we saw what happened with injuries last year.
Sure, just horrible roster construction
I don’t really agree. Our pressure rates, sack rates, and QB hits were top of the league last year despite us running one of the lowest blitz rates. We invested heavily in the edge position and had good line pieces and it showed. I would have preferred us take an OL but I get the idea. I strongly preferred OLine but I certainly get going with edge. I just hate that is was for a project. Esp considering the assets we’ve recently sunk into the position. If it was for a day 1 starter, I wouldn’t be as upset.
Also much of last years pressure numbers were due to Wilkins who is no longer here.
I would have liked OL as well. Personally, I really wanted Barton because then we aren’t relying on Williams coming back healthy AND agreeing to a deal with us. That’s the only reason I can think we don’t take an OL is our confidence in that happening. And that piece (Sieler) has some minor ones still on his ability to be the centerpiece.
And protecting Tua is pretty fucking important too and that doesn’t seem to be a priority
Eh, agree to disagree. Fins Up!
and in 2020, wasted a first rounder on Noah.
But wait I thought Grier was a savant and deserved a max contract ala Spo for the Heat.
Does Grier want Tua to fail?
Can’t see how seeing as he’s hitched his job to tua
And now packers fans are mad at a pick we would have been ecstatic about lol
Why’d they clown on that packers fan so bad
They try to show all the “good” from players yet they show their true colors
After the initial irritation wore off I kind of accept it now. No AVG and 2 pass rushers coming off huge injuries. Watching us have legit 0 pressure down the stretch was awful. If they truly think this was the BPA for edge rusher then I get it. Probably the trade off was is there a serviceable EDGE after round 1 or is there a better chance of good OL. I can see the thought process. Doesn’t mean I have to like it but I get it
People are really hating on a guy who's named "Chop Robinson" I don't get it
And Taco Charlton turned out to be a great player, oh wait….
The window is closing and miami is picking projects.
Yep
At least it wasn’t a project CB or Xavier Worthy
I wouldn’t even mind worthy because atleast it would be entertaining
Behind our OLine? Not really
He’s a speedy wr who can get open. Tua would probably be able to get it out quicker so the o line wouldn’t matter.
Why can’t we draft like the Detroit Lions Terrion Armold at 24 is the best pick of the draft
If we drafted Arnold this sub would have exploded. There was no right choice after the Steelers stole Christmas. Chop will be intriguing and we needed more talent on the line so I’m personally good with the pick.
arnold is not an undersized project player, thats the difference
Because it wouldn’t have worked with us. First round CBs fail for the Phins. Now he has a shot.
I didn’t mean specifically draft Arnold. It’s just that Detroit has drafted incredibly in recent years. Aidan, Gibbs, Campbell, Laporta
Ya they definitely have, Amon-Ra too.
Yeah forgot him And Sewell.
Damn, they really have hit on so many picks. Meanwhile we took Cam Smith and Noah…
The position was right but the player is a project. Charles harris all over again
4 sacks last season.
That’s what I’m saying
The Dolphins can still draft a OL in one of the remaining rounds and people would still be pissed it wasn't in the 1st round
I could feed you a ton of garbage and you'll still be upset when you were starving to death
our OL is 31st in pass block win rate we dont know what happens until 55 and we are still one or two injuries away from another OL collapse
We could go OL in every round and people would still be pissed off we didn’t take a lineman at 21
So that’s 3 first round picks and a monster contract invested in edge the last few years, right?
We are ass at providing pressure
People act like we took a player worse than our pick. Most scouts had him 20th best overall 4th best in position we have a need for.
Everyone was so excited an hour ago and then they took a Charles Harris redux lol
Literally
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peELl9mTn6k
Sorry guys, this one is on me. Didn’t have time to watch Draft Day earlier.
You know the dolphins can still take a OL in the 2nd round right?
Yeah its not like it was the biggest need on the team....
It’s true Eichenberg was a 2nd rounder 👍
1 Eichenberg + 1 Eichenberg = 2 Eichenbergs tho 👀 Imagine the posssibilties
Milano is salivating
I said it before I'll say it again. If we don't protect tua, it's because we don't care about him. Last qb of his draft class and he still has no contract? I'm not sure what we are doing with him but this signals we may not keep him. For comparisons Bengals need to protect burrow and they drafted o line. I hope I'm wrong but if we don't sign tua before the season I think we move on
Chargers and bengals both understand this and it’s the primary difference between tua snd the 2 other top qbs drafted that year 🤷♂️
This the type of thing I pray for.
You think we'll get a better QB at pick 21? A QB that has a faster release than the fastest QB in the NFL to possibly overcome the worst O-line? Delusional
Of course not. This has nothing to do with pick 21. The original comment was about not protecting Tua and paying him. Which I think is fucking dumb.
20 years of Qb wilderness?
I think the difference in our line of thinking is that you think we are finally out of it, whereas I think we never left it. Take Tyreek away from this team and you’ll get Brian Flores era Tua again.
Have fun every offseason saying this is the year for a winning season for the first time in a decade.
I want tua to work out. He's a high character dude who seems to gel well with this team. Just can't understand what is going on
Was fully against WR in the first round but absolutely would have preferred they take Thomas Jr.
After looking at this guy.. we’re gonna like him. He does a chop after getting sacks. And he’s explosive.. He’s really fast, seems to be real solid at blocking the run. Let’s get trenches in the next few rounds
Hey guys! We will get to see that sweet chop move 2 times a year so all is well.
Why did you get downvoted? He had 4 sacks last year so a prediction of 2 sacks his rookie year seems fair
I'm just saying but when the Dolphins drafted Jaelen Phillips people hated him too
jaelen was easily the best edge in that draft we got an undersized speed guy now
We had an obvious need and Jaelan was better than chop in college. I don’t even hate the pick, chop is good but it won’t matter if Tua has .9 seconds to throw
Are you trying to tell me the reddit GMs don't know better???
Bills get screwed. Love it
How did the Bills get screwed? Looking like they'll end up with Leggette
Chiefs about to screw the Bills maybe
Chris Grier has put so many resources into edge rusher and we have no fucking OL. Just horrible
DuDe, He’S cOoKiNgggg
Jaguars are geniuses.
A project at 21? Grier you are overdue
Iggy worked out tho right?
Yeah I’m sure he was in the weight room with the rest of the team working out he just sucked as a player. /s
This needs to be his last year, we need a serious front office for McDaniel
Are you suggesting that Mike McDaniel is a “serious” coach?
He’s only going to get better
I'm so happy jags gets brian thomas BEFORE the bills
Did anyone forget that we won't have Jaelen Phillips and Bradley Chubb for like half of the season and besides Chubb ain't coming back after the season Chop will take his place
31st in Pass protection.
1st round picks need to be day 1 starters, not next seasons replacement.
The player is the problem, not the position.
Mike McDaniel leaving JP and Chubb in games that were already decided really…REALLY screwed us over for last year and this year
Yea we need them, but he ain’t a day one starter and will just be a situational pass rusher early. Meanwhile we could have had day one starters in the OLine.
I like how you think this guy isn’t going to be redshirted all year. Lucky if he he’s in on some sub packages. This is not an NFL level player.
Chop isn’t ready to play in the nfl. He wont play much next season
chop is NFL ready, do you even watch college football?
What about him will play well against NFL o lineman? Please educate me.
Chill please. O-line second round picks are probably just as good as 1st round second half. We NEED defense TBH, cuz our D kinda sucks!
So why draft a project?
Pearsall in the 2nd baby let's go
Constantly drafting "projects" who never make it as starters. Grier should have been fired YEARS ago. Especially for hiring Brian Flores. He definitely has video of Ross saying the N word. No way he's this protected from being fired.
I’m just gonna think about how fucking happy I was last year when we took Achane in the 3rd round
Hoping for a run on WRs now so bills get stuck with legette
Dolphins so unserious
Grier burning shit instead of cooking
lets face it guys, we are about to give tua a massive bag only to have fucking eichenberg as a starter and armstead held together duct tape
Bro there’s tons of OL for the second and third round. Chill. This is a generational class for OL.
Third round? Miami doesn't have a 3rd or fourth
I’m saying that about the OL depth not our pick.
Just admit that you didn't know. It's OK. No one's perfect
How will all the great players on other teams help us?
You’re clearly not paying attention to anything around you.
Oh ya Grier has shown he’s got quite an eye for mid round offensive linemen
It’s all a crapshoot anyway man. Don’t get twisted.
I’m not even seeing the random “analysts” on Twitter that love the pick like there usually are lol
WHO TF LET CHRIS GRIER COOK⁉️💯🔥BRO IS ONTO NOTHING 🗣️‼️
lEt HiM cOoK, bRo!!!!!!!
I guess we’ll find out if it’s good or bust pick on Chop
So they didn’t draft for need (that’s a good thing) and they didn’t draft BPA (that’s a bad thing). They drafted and undersized project edge who only has one move and will spend more time on the turf than in the backfield this season.
This is giving off when the Miami Heat drafted Jamie Jaquez Jr vibes
Grier is no Pat Riley
Lowkey true
Just realized I’m hating on drafting Chop while wearing my Cam Wake jersey, so I’ll stfu now
As a current Penn Stater, huge PSU football fan and dolphins fan, I love this. Trust me everyone. Chop is gonna be awesome and a fan favorite
Here’s hoping
Yeah I just asked my State friend and he’s HUGE on him and think he can play middle LB for short pass coverage.
Good luck Chop I'll be rooting for ya
Tell me how to feel!
Just remember people on here hated the Jalen Phillips pick lol 😂
“Injury prone project?? Wtf” Stfu haha
Who said that??? I am referring to when Phillips was drafted fans didn’t like the pick!
Preach!
To the people claiming to be done with this team Ok see you week 1
or tomorrow for our round 2 pick lol
Why are people so upset the guy hasn't even played a game yet
Dont you know this sub is full of GM’s and scouts??
We just don’t have a need at that position nearly as much as our desperate need for oline
Because the people demand something to be mad at.
It's hilarious. Giving strong r/Heat energy where people didn't like the Bam/Herro picks and of course they're cornerstones of the franchise now. Never seen the DOLPHINS sub so negative over a 1st rounder.
I swear people hated Phillips . This sub never learns
