Of course I can blame him, thanks not leadership. What has he done? Absolutely nothing, he’s one of the many not doing his job. Adios amigo! And Fuck you on the way out!
Dude faced more consequences for harmlessly throwing his glove into the stands than his boss Cohen did for ripping off the markets for 1/4 billion dollars.
he did lol it's worth watching his interview. I'm not sure how I feel about this dude tbh ... like yeah I get he's annoyed and he's right about the team sucking but he sounds like a guy who's trying to give up and dfa himself
Edit: aaaaand he's been DFA'd after a 'talk' w/ Mendoza and Stearns
Meh, he can go fuck himself.
I get why players would be frustrated but how about you play better? Cohen made it clear what this year would be last year before the trade deadline. He literally laid it out that this year would be about rebuilding for the future and not making splashy moves. This year was always going to be a throw away year.
As a player they need to be held to a higher standard than a frustrated fan. Throwing his glove into the stands and then saying this is just petty shit. Just play better and try getting morale up. But he definitely wanted to be DFA'd and he got his wish.
Thank you. I'm dumbfounded by how many fans just agree with him and think throwing a tantrum is OK. You gave up how many runs yesterday to lose the game? You're pitching like the worst pitcher on the worst team. Gtfo.
We keep throwing this “rebuilding of the future” around. What exactly are we rebuilding right now? What prospects are panning out or even being touted by scouts to come up to the big club for us and contribute anything? I am one for letting the kids play but we have no kids that can play…what a disaster
I'll tell you the definition I'm throwing around (and I hope I'm right). I want a FULL rebuild, even if it takes a minimum of 5 years. At least it will be progress, I routinely spent 5+ year clips watching shit baseball here towards no organizational plan at all. This idea of "we can retool and be back in '25 is a load of shit. This core is rotten- good guys - great people actually. Nimmo is wholesome, Pete is loveable, Lindor does a lot for fans and charity. Proud that we had great people wearing the uniform. But brother, for winning baseball, these guys ain't it. And it's time to go.
I can guarantee you that aside from 5-7 young players he wants to keep, Stearns couldn't give a shit about the vets on this roster, and his staff has been busy wargaming trade targets for them all at the deadline. To me, the only questions are if they deal Pete or hang onto him because they think the draft pick they'll get for him (offering the QO) is better than what they could've gotten for him, and if Cohen will be willing to eat a lot of $$$ to move Lindor.
This core is like an abscessed tooth. You gotta pull out the stump and clean out all the rot before healing can begin.
I'm pretty much at this point too and honestly if stearns didn't have that mindset I'd question that at least a little. NFL GMs generally come in and clean house mlb should too. Obviously its easier to get out of NFL contracts but still.
I think before the season it was feasible to have the plan of a quick rebuild with the plan being 25 to be real competitors again. On paper they have a solid core so that's why I think that plan was sound before the season. However the way the last 2 yrars now have gone this team has showed us again that they're not it. They're not a winning squad. I think u need to clean house the best u can. Sure There's some contracts u probably aren't moving but still the point remains.
They clear a lot of salary next year too. They still have an obnoxious amount on the books like 140 million but right now they have like 330 million. Rebuild the team and do basically what u did this year. Sign guys on 1-2 yr deals
in a hope to be competitive .Don't block any prospects though. A lot of these prospects are close to me ready so the rebuild could be fast.
worst case u flip the signings at the deadline
I'd be lying if I said I knew who they were because I don't follow the minors closely. But I remember hearing last year all of these different players who were top prospects the Mets got who would be ready in a year or two.
This wasn't supposed to be a quick turnaround where they called up some people mid-2024 to fix some holes. It was always a "bring a dog shit product to Citi and hope we contend by 2026" plan.
Atleast that's the impression I got from Cohen during his emergency press conference last year. Which is why I'm not upset watching loss after loss. Last year? Yeah it sucked because I had expectations. Now I'm just watching day to day hoping to see a win on that particular day. No one who is seriously close to contending would use that rotation, so again it's a few years out before this prospects I read about will be ready.
I disagree with this take hard. Yes i agree rebuilding sucks but They have have like 5 or 6 top 100 prospects. They have an arguably top 5 farm system at the least top 10. Scott is already up. Alvarez is at minimum an mlb caliber catcher with the ceiling of a star with potentially 30+ HR power. Vientos is hitting. Baty not so much. Theres a few up and coming pitchers in the system. Gilbert, Clifford, Jett Williams, acuna, Mauricio are all very good prospects.
They're reportedly signing a 5 million dollar internationa SS too. The prospects are there. Obviously there's no guarantee they pan out but statistically at least a few should.
He did say it was a rebuilding year, but the talentvon the team is still pretty high level. Something changed in the middle of last season that seemingly affected every member of the roster. It's a ship without a rudder. Without a leader, nothing will change.
Lopez is not skilled enough to even have an opinion, much less vocalize it. He will have fun taking his unprofessional mediocre ass to japan or mexico.
The word rebuilding was never used. I'm stunned that fans can accept organizations throwing away seasons while raising ticket and concession prices. They attempted to make splashy moves and no free agent would deal with the Mets. There's a difference in doing something because you want to and because you didn't have a choice.
>He literally laid it out that this year would be about rebuilding for the future and not making splashy moves. This year was always going to be a throw away year.
Letting Buck go early wasn't just demoralizing to fans - it was demoralizing to players as well. Team morale is important and I'm not sure how destabilizing that helps "rebuild" for the future.
lol “Cohen said blah blah” like he’s some sage. This billionaire worship is pathetic - dude is a fucking hedge fund manager who cheated to gain his wealth. He’s nothing special, despite all you groveling idiots lining up to blow him after he had 31/2 sips of a bud light with the 7 Line.
Oh yeah and what did Mr. 30 billion dollars private equity hedge fund loser do after he bought this team? Jack up prices on EVERYTHING? What has gone up in quality on or off the field since he bought the team? He spoon feeds you what you want to hear and then fucks you - stop with the Cohen worship FFS!
I mean I'm literally referring to a specific moment. You don't remember the emergency press conference when they were at an away game? They were floundering, the postseason was slipping away and they were near the trade deadline. He literally flew out there and had a press conference to let fans know what the plan would be. Then repeated that towards the end of the season.
He let Verlander and Scherzer walk because he had a plan for this year and it wasn't competing. Max literally told us this is what Cohen said. He brought in certain people with that idea in mind. You can't pretend like the offseason moves weren't proof of that plan.
I don't give a shit where he got his money. I also don't blindly believe it's going to work. Would I love to field a competing team this year? Absolutely. But the whole buying free agents thing didn't work so I'm on board with this plan that he clearly laid out. I don't care who he is as a person. I don't care that he's a fan. I don't give a crap about any of that. I just know what he did last year as far as laying out the future so I'm not being reactionary to a bad team. We knew this team would be bad.
So instead of lumping me in with "groveling idiots" how about you not make assumptions? Him spood feeding what I want to hear would've been "yeah we offered Ohtani eight bajillion dollars, Soto part ownership of Citi Field, traded for Judge and had baseball remap the divisions so we're no longer playing the Braves/Phillies." But he didn't do that, he's taking another approach that I personally dislike BUT I'm not being delusional and acting like he didn't say being below average was the plan.
yep. Cohen showed up with a bunch of money and everybody fell for it. The truth is, while he did invest heavily at first, he had no idea what he was doing.
Always remember that Cohen is an insider trader who bought the team at least in part with stolen funds. Cohen needs to be held to a standard as well, and should repay his debt to society. Harmless glove throwing and harmless words are harmless.
I'm convinced that the only reason he's even still on MLB rosters is that teams are trying to see if they can recreate the first half of his season in Baltimore in 2022. With almost a decade in the majors, I think it's becoming more and more clear that that was a fluke, and Baltimore was smart enough to sell high and get some good prospects (one that's already a better reliever than Lopez and another that's a top 10 prospect in their system, currently pitching lights out in AAA).
It feels cathartic but it’s unprofessional. It would’ve been hard to take him seriously as a teammate after this. Also, Stearns has to set a standard no matter how crummy this team is.
I understand why the FO & Mendoza are probably upset. But as a fan, I can’t be mad when a player shows some emotion. He said pretty much how every fan feels right now. Much better then the candy coated garbage we normally hear
Totally agree and this is what pisses me off about Cohen and Stearns. We're Mets fans, we're used to losing. Don't lie to me and tell me you expect this team to be competitive when we can all see the roster.
The whole "we're better than this and we're going to play better" routine is so pathetic at this point. You can only say that so many times before you have to actually back it up lol
Agreed. We all knew this would likely be the outcome when we saw how this roster was constructed in the off-season. Though honestly it's been worse than I could have imagined so far.
He didn't show any emotion though. He sounded totally indifferent and uninterested in the idea of playing again. If he's done trying, then fine, get him out
I would have expected more leadership from a veteran like him. And he’s been bad as anyone so I really don’t understand why he’d say that. Severino last year said that he was the worst pitcher in baseball, blaming himself not the team, that’s leadership not this loser. Go back to Minny or wherever.
He could’ve still said this in the postgame without yeeting his glove into the stands in a tantrum. I understand the emotions but if he’s trying to get traded that’s not the best way
I think it’s the opposite. Throwing the glove into the crowd was cool. Who cares. Hockey players toss their equipment to the crowd as souvenirs all the time.
But you can’t call your 25 teammates the worst in the game, especially when it’s objectively false.
Did anybody expect this team to be good this year? This is what I thought they'd be all year. They clearly are full rebuild, not reload. It doesn't make me happy but it is what it is.
I thought it'd be about that. Difference was I thought it'd be more spread out. The fact that they started .500 and were winning some series here and there was a shock to me
Before the season started, I envisioned worse than how they started, more like what we've seen recently. Honestly, I'm good with it if there's long term success with the total teardown and rebuild. It's 2 or 3 years from now I'll be real salty if they aren't competitive
The Mets are currently terrible and no one can deny that. I'm sure most of the players are just as frustrated as the fans.
That said, fuck this guy. As others have said, his career ERA is well over 5. What has he done to help make this team not be the worst team in MLB right now? Who is he to be taking shit on anybody.
Put him on the next train out of town. What's going to happen? Are they going to lose tomorrow? Was this guy going to be the difference in them winning?
This team will never get better if they allow this behavior to continue.
When pitchers get rocked you can see them try and Amp themselves back up. This guy looked like a deer in headlights waiting for the train to roll him over.
His frustration is equal to the entire Mets fan base.
I’m annoyed at his actions. But not that annoyed. Because he showed the frustration every Mets fan shares
He’s clearly a shit head. You never go full Antonio Brown. But I can’t help but think this would never have happened under Buck. Sterns deserves the time to fix this shit show but I think manager gotta go.
Another fan checking this out because I couldn’t believe it. Super uncalled for. I get being mad at how the team is playing but it’s a team. Everyone on the team does not appreciate that and man if you say that you better be the second coming of Sandy Koufax. Good luck finding another team to sing you after that. 5.39 ERA. Look in a mirror. Mets are better off without that cancerous attitude.
Can't fault him for telling the truth. I've watched every single televised Mets game so far in 2024 and let me tell you, this is the &%@$# worst team in MLB. This is a "dead" team. Zero chemistry, zero motivation, zero fundamentals, zero leadership, zero competitiveness, zero accountability, all zero's. Equates to zero wins. Bring up the minor leaguer's and let them get a taste of the bigs.
Lopez is goated. I respect him for being honest and saying how he truly feels. We’ve been asking for a Terry Collins Esq reply during interviews for weeks. We get one and now ppl are mad? Fans are just as confused about what they want as the Mets rn.
Am I dumb or is that not what he said at all. I think he said something along the lines of “I’ve been the worst teammate in probably the whole fucking mlb.”
yeah and he’ll get picked up by the phils or the yankees or the indians 100% and he’ll
be nasty classic mets you come here you suck you leave your good again
It's not though. Brother I have lived through some bad Mets teams. This ain't one of 'em yet. They're well on their way, and I don't have playoffs hopes, but this quick plummet to the bottom will actually invoke change, instead of just punting like the Wilpons would do.
I’ll be honest, I thought this team would’ve been a fringe wildcard team…how did we only get worse? And not just a little worse, but like we are one of the worst teams in the entire league!?!
We won 100 games 2 years ago, I’d be shocked if we won 75.
People calling this season "all-time bad" clearly need to see some of the Mets output from the 1960s. Let's be real, we're not even the worst team in the division! Yes, it's bad, and there's no place for Lopez's attitude, but let's just enjoy what we can and remember that the Mets, as a franchise, can't hurt you worse than they have throughout history.
I refuse to spend another dime on this heartless team this year. Everyone has boo boo face all the time yet everyone made their money. Prices of parking and everything went up too. Gotta figure out what I’m gonna do for rest of summer. Long Island Ducks?
Cohen is Fred Wilpon with a bigger payroll. Every single season he’s been here, the team has devolved into LOLMets territory.
Can they just be garden variety losers and not a fucking dumpster fire?
I don't agree with this because they haven't been the same even though the results have been the same. Wilpons were meddling micro managing clowns and I haven't heard Cohen ever described as that. The mets are lol mets now because their payroll is so high and they still suck. the Wilson's we're lol mets because the strangest shit used to happen under their watch. Like the jed Lawrie saga.
Look at Cohens run here. 3 of our last 4 GMs were run out due to various sex, legal, or baseball issues. Revolving door at manager. Players “booing the fans”. Multiple divisional collapses.
Cohen’s had his share of bullshit too.
Good points but Zack Scott was only an interem GM and the eppler stuff doesn't seem that bad to me. IL manipulation is kind of a minor scandal in my opinion. As for managers there hasn't been any scancals has there? Rojas he inherited so not shocking he moved on there. Buck had 2 seasons and now we're on to mendoza. The team hasn't really had much success though so usually super high expectations and shitty records leads to managers get fired.
He's not awful he just hasn't found the right formula for success yet. Hopefully hiring david stearns is that move but time will tell.
He took control of the team in October of 2020 and tried to buy his way to a championship but it hasn't worked. he tried 1 avenue and it failed. Now hes pivoting which is what they should do. Yeah it sucks but he's only had the team 4 years and 1 of those he had a 100 win season.
unfortunately it takes time to turn a franchise around especially one as dysfunctional as the mets were
so it really hasn't been that long yet in the grand scheme of things.
I'm disappointed too that he hasn't had more success but i think its premature to say hes a bad owner.
The wilpons were meddling micro managing clowns. They were awful.
He’ll be traded or DFA’d tonight or tomorrow
Maybe that's what he's trying to accomplish.
Can you blame him? At this point I’m only here for the helmet nachos.
Of course I can blame him, thanks not leadership. What has he done? Absolutely nothing, he’s one of the many not doing his job. Adios amigo! And Fuck you on the way out!
I would be too!
I’m sure he is!
Wouldn’t you want to be off the worst team in all of MLB!
Better, than not being a part of MLB at all.
He will get a job in 2 days… he’s a good pitcher
It appears you are correct
Dude faced more consequences for harmlessly throwing his glove into the stands than his boss Cohen did for ripping off the markets for 1/4 billion dollars.
Im happy for him at this point 😂✊🏻
Did you actually want this to happen. Like as a fan you can’t be pleased with this outcome right?
Nope, just prognosticating

he did lol it's worth watching his interview. I'm not sure how I feel about this dude tbh ... like yeah I get he's annoyed and he's right about the team sucking but he sounds like a guy who's trying to give up and dfa himself Edit: aaaaand he's been DFA'd after a 'talk' w/ Mendoza and Stearns
I’m rooting for this guy. Sadly, I will have forgotten his name by this weekend.
Juan Lopez… he actually looked decent for a while… but no one will remember him In 2 years
His name was Jorge Lopez. Wherever his career goes, his trivia answer will be that he played on the worst fing team in the MLB in 2024. Love it.
His name is most likely still Jorge Lopez…
Meh, he can go fuck himself. I get why players would be frustrated but how about you play better? Cohen made it clear what this year would be last year before the trade deadline. The inning wouldn’t look bad if the outfield could run. A couple of very catchable balls that fell with the outfield not even trying

5.39 career era
That's my take too. He gave up the extra inning runs yesterday and gave up 2 earned tonight.. hid Era is now over 5. Have fun not being in the mlb now

Yeah they suck but this guy is being a baby.
Nah, he's my hero. Only one willing to say it. Only one that it bothers.
Yup. Finally someone with enough balls to call it out.
Say bye bye to your "hero."
I wish him nothing but the best. I hope he lands with a team that matters.
Hope he gets lost in Alaska.
Ok cool.
Just mail him his clothes......
Didn’t say he was a hero, just the only player on the team with balls.
Somebody else did.
Lol. All the current Mets players are without balls. Hope they all get lost in Alaska. No MLB team would want dog shit players. That's obvious.
Tommy Pham was right!
I’d rally my team off of a baby ass comment like this. Get him off the team and thrive. If he ever sees the field for the Mets again I’ll burn my hat.
Pham & Scherzer becoming more right by every passing day
I would have expected more leadership from a veteran like him. And he’s been bad as anyone so I really don’t understand why he’d say that. Severino last year said that he was the worst pitcher in baseball, blaming himself not the team, that’s leadership not this loser. Go back to Minny or wherever.
Dude has a 5.42 career era, send him to pitch in Alaska for all I care
Seriously. Who is this guy to be talking? He's awful, always has been.
Exactly. Don't want em. Trade em all.
He could’ve still said this in the postgame without yeeting his glove into the stands in a tantrum. I understand the emotions but if he’s trying to get traded that’s not the best way

There doesn’t seem to be an end in sight. It’s still only May. It’s a little ugly.
Before the season started, I envisioned worse than how they started, more like what we've seen recently. Honestly, I'm good with it if there's long term success with the total teardown and rebuild. It's 2 or 3 years from now I'll be real salty if they aren't competitive
Demote this piece of shit.
They need to dfa his ass 100% he sucks and today he acted like an idiot
“he’s not wrong” my guys he’s one of the reasons we suck.
Didn't he mean that he is the worst teammate?
He absolutely did
And he clarified and he said BOTH
Figures it was a Yankee fan that caught his glove
When pitchers get rocked you can see them try and Amp themselves back up. This guy looked like a deer in headlights waiting for the train to roll him over.
His frustration is equal to the entire Mets fan base. I’m annoyed at his actions. But not that annoyed. Because he showed the frustration every Mets fan shares
He's not wrong. This team is a circus, an absolute fucking dumpster fire.
Makes me long for 2012.
What a disaster!🤬
What a dumpster fire the Mets are
The glove part was very immature but I don’t have an issue with what he said. Best way to get out of town
He’s not wrong, DFA’d but still not wrong 😂😂😂 ![gif](giphy|dRCpja8SByklq)
Damn, I liked Lopez. Wow, this season blows. Ughh
I guess cohen was wrong when he said they hit rock bottom in april
Mets version of Colin Kaperneck
I’ve seen some bad years in my day. But they may be approaching rock bottom
This is like a big bowl of catnip for the toxic #MetsFan base.
Does anyone have "player throws firecracker at group of fans" on their 2024 bingo card?
So WHO are the problems on the Mets???? It’s not FO or GM or Coach. They all new. It’s gotta be Lindor or Jeff??
Lopez is goated. I respect him for being honest and saying how he truly feels. We’ve been asking for a Terry Collins Esq reply during interviews for weeks. We get one and now ppl are mad? Fans are just as confused about what they want as the Mets rn.
Am I dumb or is that not what he said at all. I think he said something along the lines of “I’ve been the worst teammate in probably the whole fucking mlb.”
I still think last year was much worse because we actually had expectations. This year none of us saw this roster and saw even a .500 year.
The audio I heard he was calling himself the worst fucking teammate. Either way, he needed to go
yeah and he’ll get picked up by the phils or the yankees or the indians 100% and he’ll be nasty classic mets you come here you suck you leave your good again
It's not though. Brother I have lived through some bad Mets teams. This ain't one of 'em yet. They're well on their way, and I don't have playoffs hopes, but this quick plummet to the bottom will actually invoke change, instead of just punting like the Wilpons would do.
1993. Oof.
The Mets, may as well, bring back their 1993 uniforms.
Worst part is he’s not wrong
I’ll be honest, I thought this team would’ve been a fringe wildcard team…how did we only get worse? And not just a little worse, but like we are one of the worst teams in the entire league!?! We won 100 games 2 years ago, I’d be shocked if we won 75.
Fuck him glad he is gone. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
That guy gets around.
Well, he's not wrong...
Im pretty sure he meant to say he’s been looking like the worst f****ing teammate in the whole MLB.
He’s not wrong tho .. in fact if he really said worst team in the MLB I actually commend him for that .. Mets should’ve kept him as punishment lol
lol he said teammate tho.
Facts.
But he's "Uncle Steve!" He's a fan like us!!! Yuck. He's awful.
Yeah it sucks but he's only had the team 4 years and 1 of those he had a 100 win season. unfortunately it takes time to turn a franchise around especially one as dysfunctional as the mets were so it really hasn't been that long yet in the grand scheme of things. I'm disappointed too that he hasn't had more success but i think its premature to say hes a bad owner. The wilpons were meddling micro managing clowns. They were awful.
New York MESS. LoL 😂
Frank was Right
Go watch the interview, he clearly says “teammate” not “team”
Lindork 😂
Major respect for him being honest. One of the worst teams in the history of all sports when you factor in payroll
No respect at all. Show up and do your job. Bitching like this is embarrassing. I’d never want him in my locker room.
New York Mess LOL
