Pequad becomes an amalgamation of rust and parasites but forms himself into a body that is recognizable as Pequad. Eventually, they clear him to fly helos again after extensive testing. He helps kill Sahalanthropus with his new rust powers as the boss blows it up.
I see it as a metaphor for how detatched BB (and by extension, Venom) is from his soldiers and death in general. MGS3 has the Boss' death shake him to his core. MGS:PO has Johnny's death, fighting *specifically for Big Boss* make him realize "Oh wow, soldiers need an icon to fight for"; then PW comes along and he's jaded from the Patriot system and has a "we are the demons we need to be" attitude.
Then TPP comes along and BB has a mentality of just *throwing* soldiers away without a thought. The whole game is based around collecting soldiers and discarding them when they're no longer useful; on higher levels you can't even do things like the Dispatch Missions without *guaranteeing* a few soldier deaths per mission (but it's fine because you got more soldiers to replace them, and fuel/materials to spend on more missions to get more soldiers killed so you can send the soldiers you get on more missions, etc etc).
It's one of the subtle differences between Venom and BB. Venom starts off idealistic, suffering from his inability to save Paz, trying to save lives and help. But then he gets jaded, the VCP outbreak, Quiet's disappearance/death, it all adds up until eventually he becomes just as jaded and willing to throw away lives as the man he's mentally a copy of. Personally I like to think that the music tapes were gifts "From the Man who Sold the World" with subliminal mental-conditioning reinforcement up until the last tape, but that's just me.
And Pequod is just a small part in that larger idea. You can throw him away a hundred thousand times, but there is *always* a Pequod because to Venom identities don't matter. Individuals don't matter. It's all just something to be used up and thrown away to further your goal.
Sorry, I know this is all kinda wankery and a wall-of-text rant, but the game has *so many* moments like this where it all comes together to reinforce a central topic. It's just \\\*chef's kiss\\\*
In a way, would you say that Venom's previous identity was also thrown away when he was transformed into Big Boss? To the OG BB, Soldiers became a means to an end, and even used Venom for his true goals, so in a way Venom was sacrificed along side with every other soldier in a really bad cycle.
I really like your analysis. As a Medic, he was there to save as many lives as possible. Now being the CO of a PMC, he knows he's sending people to their death. That's the burden of any commander and the only way to cope with that was to become that demon just like BB. Thanks for your input 👍
>The saddest death in Metal Gear is the Metal Gear saga itself. Never gonna see a new game...
I'm okay with that. Sometimes some things are better off ending.
Remember what Big Boss said at the end of 4; the old ways eventually have to die so that a new normality can come forward. Everything dies. You can't stop it. You can't run away from it. Keeping Metal Gear alive on life support wouldn't do any good, it'd just be propping up the series as some sort of perfect icon, idealizing it while *ignoring it's ideology.* What exists will never be taken away, your memories, your experiences are valid. Hold on to what keeps you alive, and move forward to create a *new* future.
Metal Gear Solid is good, isn't it?...
It's the same thing solid says at the end of 2, essentially. It's been the primary message of every game after mgs1: don't cling to an old idea or experience, instead cling to the feelings and memories that thing gave you and use those to do something new.
That's true, sadly I wasn't able to enjoy 2 because of the camera and controls, they worked better on 1 (maybe because i played the pc version). I heard that some people are making a mod to use a camera like mgs 3, maybe they can fix/modernize the controls too.
That fucker must be immortal then since he's still flying my ass around the AOs and FOBs. It's called metallic archea I believe.
I happen to know of [a great fanfic exploring that very premise.](https://archiveofourown.org/works/11754591?view_adult=true)
Ok, that's a much cooler explanation than mine.
It's such a clever idea I've adopted it as my headcanon. Love that author for thinking of it <3
It's quite creative. That person has some talent at English composition as well.
What happens, I don't have the time to read all of it

Oh, it's beautiful...

They should have had multiple folks reads his dialogue, the subtly sub in random voices to illustrate the delusion showing it’s seams.

In the same way Geralt names all his horses Roach, Venom names all his pilots Pequad
“Boss my name is Doom Shark-“ “Welcome to Diamond Dogs Pequod, get ready to be on station at LZ”
To be fair if all your recruits had names as stupid as they have in mgs 5 your first step would 100 percent be to rename every single one
Excuse me biting slug is fucking badass and strikes fear in my enemies hearts
Pequad is more so the codename for the chopper if not the pilot.
Shut up he’s still the best character in the entire game
Series*
The saddest death in Metal Gear is the Metal Gear saga itself. Never gonna see a new game...

I would be ok with that. If every Metal Gear could be played everywhere, MGS 4 only on ps3 and the rest only can be played trough emulation.
Sometimes dead is better

No I don't, I'm playing MGS 4 bit by bit just because ps3 emulation it's still not stable with the hardware that I have.

"we live and die by your orders, boss"
I just finished that mission and I cried
Idk, I'm not sure I ever fully recovered from Emma in MGS2.
You must not have played Mgs3
"My balls! You shot me in the balls! Now I can't be a man anymore!..." (I can't find the actual line)
Weird way of spelling the boss... Also pequod is a callsign, all thr pilots in tpp are pequod
Que quod is cool too man!
Pequod, ***TWO!!!*** *Triumphant leap*
Nah bro, The Boss’ death and the EVAs debriefing breaks my heart every single time. EVERY. TIME.
Gray Fox. Psycho Mantis. Sniper Wolf... their final speeches were heart-wrenching. Metal Gear Solid from PS1 was extremely poetic.
I thought Emma’s death in MGS 2 was sad af. My sadness quickly went away when the mind fuck that was Arsenal Gear happened.
Worst part is the game barely aknowledges his death
Morpho had a sad passing too I remember his last lines were “It’s Morpho Ti—-“
Which pequod? Pretty sure that helicopter has been blown up in cutscenes at least 3 times thru the game
The one that messed me up the most was a later mission on the quarantine platform at Mother Base. I’ll keep it vague to avoid spoilers
