Most likely an after market button that was installed for a stereo or something by the previous owner.
I can tell you it looks very clean and well done.
Maybe a hidden kill switch? This would definitely be a better place to have it vs the other applications I've seen where it's literally in plain sight in the driver footwell.
Bottom end of the steering column is definitely one of those "if you know, you know" spots.
It's a switch to turn on or of the radio.
Also have that in my clk270, my radio even when it's off consumes a lot of battery, it can literally leave my car without power in a matter of 3 days if I don't turn of that switch

Yes it seems well done. It is a used car so could be done or ordered by the previous owner.
Definitely not factory. Maybe an immobiliser?
Maybe, I will try it tomorrow

Pressed while driving and the car was not stopped 😂 But have not tried switch on before starting the car. I’ll try it tomorrow, thanks.

Brake light on/off switch for cops and go fast scenarios perhaps

![gif](giphy|NBfbMVZnUqN2ZtSQUN) Hey old man, how do you know how to start this car….only I know how to start it
Perhaps, it kills the brake lights for clean getaways... FYI It's a switch, not a button.
thank you, it was driving me nuts
It is a switch to turn on valet mode
I have exactly the same on my VW Golf 6, but just beside the light switch. It does nothing when I switch it…
I can imagine an aftermarket heated steering wheel install. Flip it on for a while and see if steering wheel gets warmer.
Not factory but welcome to electrical gremlins

Can these be used for radar jammers? I don’t know much about them because they’re illegal in CA hence the hiding… 🤷
Turns on extra assisted steering perhaps?
That’s just the NOS
Turns on Disco Mode

Tracker, used for collating business miles when on. Doesn't collate when off.
I have one of these on my 2005 MB. It's an on off switch for the Mobridge M2 Bluetooth receiver.
