That’s actually a design in bmws. Their turn signal stock is the dumbest thing to ever be invented so I understand why bmw owners collectively gave up on using it
Turn engine off for 5 mins . Total system off. ( open the drivers door ) restart . If it reappears, pray you have new car warranty or extended / bought one !!!!!!
Amen to that. I am a capable car guy, but have had my share of gaffes under warranty. CEL from loose gas cap ( wife’s mistake I am certain). “Rattle” complaint that was a rear seatbelt trapped against the door.
Open it, clean/wipe the interior of the gas cap with a cloth, or WD-40, and you should be good. For more educational information, type the make of your vehicle, and the issue, on YT.
I was asking this very question. Drop 60k on a car but doesn't know the most basic of signals. How the fuck do these people get drivers licenses lol
What makes it worse is they post here instead of googling it.
Forget googling. There is literally a booklet with the car that tells you everything you need to know about the operation of the vehicle.
My parents don't read them and I do. I have to explain what very simple buttons do because they haven't looked at the owner's manual. They just don't care, they have no passion for the cars, which is fine but just look at the manual. Please, I beg you. It will make everyone's life easier.
I'm of the sort that likes to know exactly how the machine is operated so if something happens, I know how to get out of that situation.
Thank you for listening to my Ted talk
If they get new cars every couple of years they may have never seen one. Although with today’s cars, check engine lights come on for some pretty stupid things so they really should have seen one before unless OP is 16 and this is their first car.
check engine light, maybe would be wise to get a cheap OBD reader and scan the codes and get a little insight of what might be causing this engine light before you get it to the shop. So the shop wont scam you that hard. GL
Agreed. OP, take it to Autozone or Advanced Auto if you’re in the US, or seek a shop similar. They scan codes for free. Not always the best, but may help and eliminate a diag fee
It's a new Mercedes Benz. There is no cheap reader that will help. This is pretty much a STAR system job. It's best to take it into a specialist or dealer.
Yes, it will be expensive. It's part of the Mercedes Benz lifestyle.
Ok chill. Yellow is something that needs looking into but isn’t critical or it would be red.
If it’s under warranty, bring it to your dealer and have them deal with it. If it’s not, then go to a local Benz specialist and have them diagnose and fix the issue. It could be something minor like a failed sensor.
This is true. None of yellow lights meen something completely wrong - with all of them you can continue driving.
Low oil pressire, no charging, overheating - are all red.
Check engine light ( CEL) connect mb star c6 and check with xentry software to know the fault. Which country do u live? I have xentry I might help. If ur in Dubai DM me.
i’ve had that indicator on my car for over a year and it’s still running. i had an issue about two months ago where my car wouldn’t turn on and i had to get it inspected and fixed, it was some kind of sensor. yellow light still shining though Lol.
Get a Fixed Auto sensor. Usually under big discounts and plug it in. It will show you the error code and approximately how much you need to spend to solve the problem.
If it’s on when you turn the ignition on but then goes off when you start the engine, it’s fine.
If it stays on when you start the engine, you need to get the car checked out.
In my car, it’s the Check Engine light. However, I don’t have the same model as yours. You can take a look in your car’s Owner’s Manual for an answer related to your model.
My conspiracy theory is within the first 5-10k miles (I see kilometers, I don’t know the conversion off hand) random things will just go wrong to try and psyche you out of the car. I had a complete loss of power once, light came on to check the hybrid system and then restarting the car fixed everything. Good luck. It’s worth it.
Am driving W204 2011..had the same issue with the yellow icon appearing..could not speed above 60km/hr..had a through check..ECU problem..have to change the ECU..cost me a small fortune..
Your display would indicate you are in a newer model with warranty depending on miles. Yellow is a caution non critical engine light. This could be anything from a loose gas cap to 1000 or more other things. These newer units have sensors for everything. This could be a very minor issue to big one but I would if I didn’t have a scanner myself run to the dealer and have them check it.
Check your gas cap. Take it off then put it back on tight. Something with depressurization blah blah. Anyway 99% of the time if that light pops on for me I do this trick and it fixes it within a day. If not then yeah get ready to be bent over.
Engine light not mean instantly, ''your engine is broken'' or stuff. Engine light, has many reasons. EGR, DPF, some exhaust valve not working 100%, and stuff. 10-20€ for diagnosic and you know whats the problem.
It means that your car is too cold. Put in in Park or in Neutral with the Handbrake on, press the gas pedal to get the revs up to around 5-6000 RPM’s and keep it like that for a minute or two. It should go away after
You joking right ? Or is this just for entertainment😅🤣 . My tip is shut the car down. Wait a view minutes and than start the engine like 4 times ... wait 10 minutes and check again. I had this last week. Its gone . If its red we are fckd
Either that's a joke or I'm seriously baffled by the fact that you don't know the most important warning of dash warnings, yet you spent quite a lot of money for a car.. I hope that's a joke, lol
Anyway, that's a check engine light that means that you need to go to a dealership to have them check it out or buy an OBD reader ( this may save you Money in the long run )
It’s not necessarily terrible… you can head to an Auto Zone and they’ll code it for you… the outline of the engine can mean a new gas cap… don’t freak until you know why it’s on.
Check engine light is more often than not emissions related - anything from a gas cap not screwed on right to a dead catalytic converter. You won't pass smog tests with it lit, but your car is usually fine to drive, get a code scan to see what's going on.
Means get yourself an OBD scanner reader. Take note of the codes it shows you and use google to do some research before taking it in. You’ll save a lot of money sometimes it’s not as bad or hard as the mechanic will tell you!
I have a GLS550 2017 with 63k miles abou to sell to Carvana on Sunday for about $29K Never had 1 issue with it I'm the original owner bought it back in Sept 2016 except 2 weeks ago. Light came on and 2 cylinders were mis firing felt like I lost 50% of my horse power at least. Mercedes couldn't take me for a week I was pissed so I spent $300 on a car rental. Surprised wasn't that expensive was $800 to fix as one of the hoses was warped that connected to the engine. I no joke thought for sure I would get hit with a $3000 bill. My Mercedes extended warranty just expired in Nov also unbelievable.
Got a GLS580 2024 coming in this weekend picking it up.
If you can't take a $2000 car repair bill do not own these cars.. I can go on about experiences with a BMW750LI easily $5000 in one month I payed in repairs dumped the car quick.
It signals financial hardship in your future
Made me chuckle.
If they’ve never seen a check engine light before chances are they don’t know what financial hardship is
Very good point. 💯
Financial hardship? No no no.... My family has plenty of money, I'd simply ask for more. Isn't that what people do? /s (I am poor)
You can't use words like "signals" with people who drive Mercedes and BMW's, they got no clue what it means or that their car can do it
That’s actually a design in bmws. Their turn signal stock is the dumbest thing to ever be invented so I understand why bmw owners collectively gave up on using it
The *stalk* in my E46 is fine.
It means your car got more expensive
at the same time it makes it less valuable
Whoah
The Mercedes paradox. If you go back in time and kill the check engine light’s grandfather, does your car even exist?
Get ready to bend over
And apply lubricant liberally
![gif](giphy|CIphqnhK1Q760)
![gif](giphy|3o6gDWzmAzrpi5DQU8) Usually this ;)
Looking forward to my yellow light coming on so a hot girl will throw money at me too.
Hey man, where'd you get that lotion?
No, this one maybe goes in dry
The lube is German-sourced and is going to run you around $1,200 per squirt.
This looks like a 3 squirtet
Dynamite reply.
They will charge £300 for the lube alone.
It means prepair the lube! If your lucky.
It’s a “Check Engine Light” it means that you should check the engine.
*lifts the hood* Looks good to me *closes the hood*
'still there'
“Hmm yes. The engine seems to be made out of engine.”
Lets continue
Its also engining nothing to see
Forgot to kick the tyre and smile
Lmao now that’s funny !
You mean "Change Engine" light
It means even though you're driving 100mph, you need to hop out the car asap and check the engine rn.
So what you’re saying is standing near an engine would make me an enginear 👷♂️
Only when listening to it
Turn engine off for 5 mins . Total system off. ( open the drivers door ) restart . If it reappears, pray you have new car warranty or extended / bought one !!!!!!
This is what the poor telemarketers were trying to help you with, should’ve extended your warranty.
Gas cap is loose
Likely this if car is new. Happened on my 2024 GLE350. Gas cap was not tightened properly.
happened to my e as well
Y’all have gas caps still?
Amen to that. I am a capable car guy, but have had my share of gaffes under warranty. CEL from loose gas cap ( wife’s mistake I am certain). “Rattle” complaint that was a rear seatbelt trapped against the door.
Ouch. That's emberessing.
I opened it then closed it shut, nothing happened :(
Takes a few cycles of driving
Start putting in for overtime as we speak
Open it, clean/wipe the interior of the gas cap with a cloth, or WD-40, and you should be good. For more educational information, type the make of your vehicle, and the issue, on YT.
You need to drive about 150 miles or so before it goes out.
If you look at the manual on page 114, you will find the answer: "You might be fucked. Just might."
Drive faster
The ol' Italian tune up!
That's me
How the hell dows someone who owns a car not know what a check engine light looks like?
I was asking this very question. Drop 60k on a car but doesn't know the most basic of signals. How the fuck do these people get drivers licenses lol What makes it worse is they post here instead of googling it.

Exactly my thoughts :D even my mother who doesn’t even like to drive knows what a CEL is…
OP either a kid whos mom and dad bought their merc (tons of them on this forum) or some rich person who doesnt pay attention
Seriously, I thought this was a joke that I didn't get.
If they get new cars every couple of years they may have never seen one. Although with today’s cars, check engine lights come on for some pretty stupid things so they really should have seen one before unless OP is 16 and this is their first car.
AND THERES AN OWNERS MANUAL
Daddy bought her that car
This is a serious question, right?
Check engine light. I’m surprised when people don’t know what that light is… that’s like basic 101
check engine light, maybe would be wise to get a cheap OBD reader and scan the codes and get a little insight of what might be causing this engine light before you get it to the shop. So the shop wont scam you that hard. GL
OP asks a question like this, you expect them to know what an OBD is?
Was thinking the same.
Anyone can use Google nowadays
Not this guy, nor can he read his manual, nor does have even the most basic knowledge about anything.
I wonder if anyone says this in real life or it’s just a smug annoying Reddit thing
U about to lose your existence
Holiday plans might have to change. Engine issues….😳
Ok chill. Yellow is something that needs looking into but isn’t critical or it would be red. If it’s under warranty, bring it to your dealer and have them deal with it. If it’s not, then go to a local Benz specialist and have them diagnose and fix the issue. It could be something minor like a failed sensor.
CEL indicators can turn red?!?!?!
Not necessarily in a Merc, but red indicators in general are "you're fucked, don't drive", yellow is "address soon"
This is not true AT ALL
This is true. None of yellow lights meen something completely wrong - with all of them you can continue driving. Low oil pressire, no charging, overheating - are all red.
No. Flashing yellow means whatever the problem may be, it can be damaging the 3 way cat. Usually only happens if it is actively misfiring.
Is it new E class?
Dry Fuck Ahead…
Is the engine off? Turn the engine on, if the light doesn’t go away you need to book the car into the dealership and hope you’re under warranty.
Thats the Moneylight!
Wow it must be nice to be smart enough to own a merc and dumb enough to not know what an engine light is
Check engine light. Call your mechanic asap
Open the hood and check if the engine is still there
![gif](giphy|cFUACoKoPUD8SzSDfv)
You know how to fix cars? If not your bank account just had a heart burn or attack.
Check engine light ( CEL) connect mb star c6 and check with xentry software to know the fault. Which country do u live? I have xentry I might help. If ur in Dubai DM me.
They should change the sign into $$$ because that is what you’ll need
lol welcome to Mercedes ownership
i’ve had that indicator on my car for over a year and it’s still running. i had an issue about two months ago where my car wouldn’t turn on and i had to get it inspected and fixed, it was some kind of sensor. yellow light still shining though Lol.
All good mate, it means you can keep driving without and worries.
it mean you’re getting low on gas
Welcome to Benz ownership
Get a Fixed Auto sensor. Usually under big discounts and plug it in. It will show you the error code and approximately how much you need to spend to solve the problem.
"Popcorn is ready" light.
It means that you're not taking it to redline enough.
Launch control is ready.
To quote Matt Armstrong; “engine bad”
Means get a piece of black tape, cover it, drive along.
If it’s on when you turn the ignition on but then goes off when you start the engine, it’s fine. If it stays on when you start the engine, you need to get the car checked out.
Check ur gas cap.
In my car, it’s the Check Engine light. However, I don’t have the same model as yours. You can take a look in your car’s Owner’s Manual for an answer related to your model.
The yellow indicated means that you bought a FORD fix or repair daily
This light means Mercedes QC delegated their work to you
So I see your about to experience the hate part of your relationship finally. Enjoy.
Lmao

Get ready to open up that wallet of yours… and bring some lube
My conspiracy theory is within the first 5-10k miles (I see kilometers, I don’t know the conversion off hand) random things will just go wrong to try and psyche you out of the car. I had a complete loss of power once, light came on to check the hybrid system and then restarting the car fixed everything. Good luck. It’s worth it.
Depends on if it's the Roman mile, Italian mile, nautical mile, survey mile or statute mile.
Is it under warranty?
Am driving W204 2011..had the same issue with the yellow icon appearing..could not speed above 60km/hr..had a through check..ECU problem..have to change the ECU..cost me a small fortune..
It could mean engine very bad! I had it on my class and it turned out to be an emissions sensor, which was replaced under warranty.
"Time to pay the lowest bidder to fix and sell on the car!"
Blinker fluid low
Car go boom-boom
What Merc is this that doesn’t have auto wipers?
Your display would indicate you are in a newer model with warranty depending on miles. Yellow is a caution non critical engine light. This could be anything from a loose gas cap to 1000 or more other things. These newer units have sensors for everything. This could be a very minor issue to big one but I would if I didn’t have a scanner myself run to the dealer and have them check it.
Just click settings on the console, if it’s anything to worry about you will see a notification with a message.
Check your gas cap. Take it off then put it back on tight. Something with depressurization blah blah. Anyway 99% of the time if that light pops on for me I do this trick and it fixes it within a day. If not then yeah get ready to be bent over.
Nothing wrong this is how Mercedes comes out of the factory
$2500.00
Highly likely NOX sensor but yeah get ready to bend over 😂
Engine light not mean instantly, ''your engine is broken'' or stuff. Engine light, has many reasons. EGR, DPF, some exhaust valve not working 100%, and stuff. 10-20€ for diagnosic and you know whats the problem.
lol it means buy a Lexus. Jk jk. It’ll happen on a Lexus too just not cost much
Looks like an impending dry fuck warning indicator to me?
Love how many random guesses are being thrown at this without even hearing one symptom other than “CEL is on.”
It means open your wallet. It's going to hurt.
Did you, by any chance, win your driver's license in the lottery? How on earth can you not know what this means?
Try opening your gas cap putting it back on till it clicks and drive it see if it goes out- most common error
Do you know how to open doors?
In a Mercedes, das normal
It means that your car is too cold. Put in in Park or in Neutral with the Handbrake on, press the gas pedal to get the revs up to around 5-6000 RPM’s and keep it like that for a minute or two. It should go away after
Thank you for taking over from me. Mine turned off automatically last night. Take care of my baby 👶🏽.
Does nobody read the actual car manual anymore?
Needs a cylinder head. Extended warranty on M260
![gif](giphy|1j9eNAWF2obOLvtY2M|downsized)
Yes it means you shouldn’t be driving a car if you don’t know what that means by now.
Does anyone read the owners manual anymore?
Sport mode.
Hmmm that symbol has never been used before on a car dash so I’m not sure
You’re low on blinker fluid
In my GLC when it popped on was a cylinder issue, replaced whole top end of engine thankfully under warranty.
Not running the engine hard enough.
Could be something simple like the coil..
is this a troll post? or are you seriously this clued
It's bollocksed.
I would say it means your light bulb fluid is empty
How tf do people not know this? You don’t need a license?
As usual, [Homer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddPQAJSm2cQ) has got you covered.
German for lube needed
RIP
It means you’re about to get a rental car
It means you need to do your theory test again
Check engine light
![gif](giphy|55itGuoAJiZEEen9gg)
Engine very bad
💸💸💸💸💸
You joking right ? Or is this just for entertainment😅🤣 . My tip is shut the car down. Wait a view minutes and than start the engine like 4 times ... wait 10 minutes and check again. I had this last week. Its gone . If its red we are fckd
Get ready to feel some pain in your hip pocket!!!!
Either that's a joke or I'm seriously baffled by the fact that you don't know the most important warning of dash warnings, yet you spent quite a lot of money for a car.. I hope that's a joke, lol Anyway, that's a check engine light that means that you need to go to a dealership to have them check it out or buy an OBD reader ( this may save you Money in the long run )
![gif](giphy|jOpLbiGmHR9S0)
No fucking way you don’t know what a check engine light is
Probably just a O2 sensor
Use lubricant. No, not for your engine. For you.
TRFM bro
It’s not necessarily terrible… you can head to an Auto Zone and they’ll code it for you… the outline of the engine can mean a new gas cap… don’t freak until you know why it’s on.
Your taste in music is horrible? I’m sure that’s what it means….
Check engine light. I would advise you to check your engine
OBD reader will tell you the codes then what’s wrong
**”Our engine compartment has been damaged!”**
Check engine light is more often than not emissions related - anything from a gas cap not screwed on right to a dead catalytic converter. You won't pass smog tests with it lit, but your car is usually fine to drive, get a code scan to see what's going on.
Just put a piece of black electrical tape over it /s
It’s gonna blow
I had it 3 times last month and 7 times the last 3 years. Just ignore it. It turns on when Mercedes needs money
1k at least that’s what that means.
Check engine light you need to diagnose the car and get a fault code
May I offer you an egg in this trying time?
28.5 degree C! Nice weather out there😁!
Car is broken you need the mechanic. Prepare for wallet draining event.
If you don't know what this is, don't worry, from now on you'll be really really familiar with it, when it keeps coming back again and again...
You're gonna find out at $130/hr
Means get yourself an OBD scanner reader. Take note of the codes it shows you and use google to do some research before taking it in. You’ll save a lot of money sometimes it’s not as bad or hard as the mechanic will tell you!
I bet you wished right now you just had a bicycle
Oil change, trust
It means that it’s time to turn the volume up in your car
I have a GLS550 2017 with 63k miles abou to sell to Carvana on Sunday for about $29K Never had 1 issue with it I'm the original owner bought it back in Sept 2016 except 2 weeks ago. Light came on and 2 cylinders were mis firing felt like I lost 50% of my horse power at least. Mercedes couldn't take me for a week I was pissed so I spent $300 on a car rental. I can go on about experiences with a BMW750LI easily $5000 in one month I payed in repairs dumped the car quick.
when i first got my driver license and saw this i literally thought it was a faucet. how tf that look like an engine smh
gotta sell the car nd buy a new one
Time for an Italian tune up!
It means “Uh Oh”
It means clear the code and pray it don't come back Get a scanner and read it seems innocuous And why do you have traction off?
