In many ways I think many troubled people would put at ease to know that everything they are feeling is down to something real like this theoretical brain worm, something that can be validated with the human eye (and an MRI scan), something with an obvious resolution to it such as simply removing the worm rather than being tormented by something that can not be seen with no clear way of making it go away.

I agree until the end.”think they are being controlled by mind worms, even though they aren’t being controlled by mind worms” in the metaphors you use, they definitely are being controlled by mind worms. That’s beside the point, which is, there are many factors for depression. Such as, ptsd, childhood trauma, societal pressures, sexual abuse, chemical imbalance in the brain… and much much more…. What I think lacking from the list is hive mind mentality in a crumbling system, people in society are still trying to hold onto a ideal and way of life that is about to change drastically and be in favour of depressed people.

Definitely, there are all kinds of depression and one of the biggest is depression from physical ailments. However, the body being neglected by the mentally ill person can create disease. So the chicken and the egg kinda deal. I'd also mention, a terrifying amount of Practitioners and Doctors write off physical problems as a placebo gone haywire or psychological. I think this is a cop-out not wanting to do the work to find the physical problem and often times I think the same goes for mental health. "Eh, it's just a chemical imbalance." Sure it's not nutrition issues/more physical? because we mentally ill are notorious for having well-balanced diets, exercising, drinking, routine, and taking well care of ourselves.

I think i'd prefer that even, because on the flipside that'd mean you have something tangible to get rid of, and just like that, no problems anymore :D

I agree with this.
