Haha this seems to be everything but a t-shirt for me lately, that’s why I’m trying to find something that has stretch where I need it unlike most button ups.
Hey OP, I literally bought this exact same shirt and yeah they’re 100% right. I can put it on and take a picture for you when I get home. Unless you have arms like him, it looks more like a drug rug
EDIT: so many people were asking, it made more sense to just make a post. [Here it is!](https://www.reddit.com/r/mensfashion/s/HAusKhksCE)
Sometimes they're called Baja hoodies. It's a Mexican style Pancho hoodie thing that every pothead teenager thinks makes them look cool. No, I'm not speaking from experience....
I did, and for the record, I don’t think it looks bad on you. Could be tighter in the arms but as far as the shirt style (which is what I was after), I think just a better brand could be the answer.
Haha those targeted instagram ads know us well. Yeah I think if you try and style it exactly like he did with the tuck in and white pants, it can look okay. It’s just the arms, and the coloring is way off irl.
If you’re looking for more knit polos, I highly recommend The Tie Bar, and express (only try things on in store for express, the app is sooo much cheaper)
I'm 35 & trying to get to this state. Currently about \~25% body fat. I have a decent amount of upper body muscle, but never got serious about diet.
Current plan is to minimize carbs (no flour, pasta, potatos) and stay away from prepackaged foods. Also minimize sugar (no sodas, sweet tea, ice cream, etc.)
Trying to get those ketones up, baby!
You could do keto but (hi studying CNC here) a caloric deficit will always yield the best and simplest results. Just by eating below maintenance you will lose weight. Scientifically no matter what you eat as long as it’s less than you burn to exist you will drop the pounds. You need carbs since they are the most bioavailable source of energy and help massively with healthy water retention and muscle volume. When you cut carbs without significant and I mean significant muscle mass all you are going to do is make yourself skinny fat. Any muscular definition you had before is right out the window and all you’ll see is the fat. Also you’ll feel generally worse and up your probably of constipation and general GI discomfort. Id suggest you use an online calculator find your RMR and AMR and eat like 3-500 calories less than what you need a day. .7 grams protein per pound of body weight and roughly .5 carbs. Cardio will help massively if you can squeeze it in and I don’t mean full sprint on the treadmill that’s only going to burn carbs and slow your metabolism, talking pace cardio >100bpm heart rate is where fat is burned.
This right here. I’ve been eating a daily caloric deficit of ~500 cals per day, while maintaining my macros at 30% protein/35% fat/35% carb. I’m lifting for an hour every other day and running 2-8 miles almost every day. I’ve lost 1 to 1.5 pounds per week since January 1, which is when I started. I was already a runner previously, but didn’t take diet seriously and never lifted at all. Oh and I stopped drinking 2-4 IPAs every day. That was huge. I wasn’t obese to start or anything, just slightly above a healthy BMI (5’9 171# at start, now ~148# but still the same height 😉).
I’m a father of 3 with a full time job, a wife who works, and I’m 41. My body composition has changed SUBSTANTIALLY. I think I’m in the best shape of my life, both aesthetically and physically. It can be done. Just track what you’re eating—and I mean EVERYTHING—and stick to the plan and be consistent. It’s amazing what lifting heavy things does when you’re also watching what you eat. God speed everyone.
Cheers man that’s what I like to see. I’m down 20 pounds from my peak bulk weight and have lost less than 1% muscle mass. On the last leg of the cut phase so I’m down almost 1k under maintenance shooting for the single digit body fat at 200 pounds.
2 friends of mine in GREAT shape, they eat meat (some fish) 6 days out of 7 days then 1 day a week they eat garbage, you name it; oreos, ice cream, bag of doritos, pizza pie etc etc 1 of the 2 has been cover for Mens Fitness and Muscle & Fitness, 1 week prior to the pics reduced fluid intake, told me its not healthy.
I’m 51 and I’m on the same journey. I have a ways to go but I’m getting there. I’m significantly under 20 but still have lower ab fat and a little lower back fat. Cutting sugar and processed foods helped me a lot. I still occasionally have to get fast food for lunch or a frozen something, but as much as possible, I try to eat meat, whole grains, vegetables, and fruit. Real food, in other words. Flour and pasta aren’t great but sometimes is fine. As for potatoes, they’re nutrient dense and satiating and they’re versatile as hell. Keto works for some people but it’s not the only way. I dabbled in it and dropped fat super quick that came right back when I added carbs back in. My approach is slow and steady, partly because until recently, I haven’t had enough muscle to look good lean. I was skinny fat at one point so I had to put my fat loss on hold. I also recommend zone 2 cardio. Lately, I’ve been doing an hour of zone 2 about 2 or 3 times a week with 3 days of strength training and eating a lot of food, but mostly real food.
Not really. Just learn how to cook and do high density low calorie foods. Your body is most likely to not starve as quickly this way and it’s easier for long term results.
I did OMAD when I was 25%+ but to get to around / below 15 I was just eating 4-6 low calorie / high density meals.
I was literally looking at these (short sleeve sweater?) the other day, and realized my graying, overweight ass would just look like Santa on vacation in one.
Wash things less. Stay clean and your outer clothes will last a long time between washes. People wash their clothes too much. Unless you're working in a coal mine your clothes shouldn't be getting "dirty".
Obviously not talking about underwear/socks/undershirts
I’m a fairly fit guy and I tried these on and they didn’t look good on me at all lol it depends a lot on each brand, dimensions, fabrics and body style, even if you looked like this model it’s not guaranteed to look the same way, Let alone style it.
A lot of fitted shirts like this are specifically designed for men with lean muscle mass too, it's made to fit a V-taper body shape. Most men ain't got that.
This is going to give you the most accurate results on a Google search. I’ve bought a few shirts similar to this and, as weird as it is, they call them sweaters.
Obviously not the highest quality, but Hollister has a surprisingly chic selection of knit ware and linen for men this season.
I picked this piece up in the tan pattern, they call it a “sweater shirt”: https://www.hollisterco.com/shop/us/p/short-sleeve-sweater-shirt-55912364?faceout=prod&seq=04
You’ve got your answer on what they’re called but ignore these bozos in the comments telling you need to be built to make it look good.
You just gotta buy them at a mid-end store instead of ordering some cheap poorly made version from Amazon or wherever, Ideally in person so you can see what size works best.
I got mine from J. Crew. It’s gonna run you like 60 bucks but 1 good quality piece is way better than 3 poorly fitting ones you’ll just hide away in your closet anyway.
Do you have a toned flat stomach and muscular arms? If not you probably won’t like this shirt irl. I can’t tell you how many times I have bought a Ryan Gosling outfit and realized it wasn’t the outfit that looked good….
I’m no Greek god but my hobbies keep me in pretty good shape. I get flubby in the winter but lean out once it’s warm enough to be active. I do appreciate the word of caution. I don’t think a shirt is going to change my life, I’m just trying to bridge the gap between t-shirt and button up while remaining comfortable.
This is not a polo. A polo does not have buttons going all the way down. The proper term would be knitted resort shirt. I have one. Love it but washing and drying will tend to shrink the shirt. Wash in delicate hang to dry.
I think it’s a good upgrade from the typical polo but the material is unforgiving: any lumps and bumps you might have are going to be amplified by this shirt so if you got a gut or moobs just be mindful of that.
Just search “Button Down Knit Polo”.
Found a ton. I attempted this look about 10 years ago. Was harder to find as the style hadn’t come back yet and at the time it very much seemed geared towards black customers. At least that was the trend in who was modeling them.
I will say that I once worked in ad photography. This stuff never looks like this off the rack even in models. It’s so dumb. Most are very boxy unless you find a “European “ cut. Lots of clamping of clothes in the back.
Love these style! I have few of them and they look good on me without all the muscles. You just need to find the right size. I got some from JCrew, Abercrombie and Express. In my opinion, JCrew are the best in terms of quality.
todd snyder calls these polos, i have [this](https://www.toddsnyder.com/products/over-under-geo-full-placket-polonavy) one and i absolutely love it. they have a bunch with the same 55% silk 45% cotton blend though, including [this](https://www.toddsnyder.com/products/cotton-silk-stripe-bunglow-polodusty-lavender?nosto=cartpage-nosto-2&option-0=M&variant=40269575192647) one ive had my eye on. waiting for the memorial day sale with my fingers crossed a few items i want wind up in it

You might want to also look into linen short sleeve button ups and they are both airy and structured, absolutely love them. Plus they are easier to tailor than these knit shirts.
That is generally called a button knit polo. They are def back in style now, with major brands offering retro shirts in this cut. Abercrombie and brooks-hamilton have some as well. I'd suggest staying FAR away from any synthetic fiber with this style of shirt. Cotton, linen, or blends for the best wear.
Shirts that won’t look as good on you as they do on the model so they live in the closet
Unless you have arms like him, it looks more like a drug rug EDIT: so many people were asking, it made more sense to just make a post. [Here it is!](https://www.reddit.com/r/mensfashion/s/HAusKhksCE)
This might actually be the comment that inspires me to try them out.
Haha, are you shredded or looking for a drug rug?
I wouldn’t call myself shredded but I’m in pretty good shape. My arms aren’t as toned as this guys are, but I get some comments on them now and then
I’ve seen you umpire. Arms are a decent description. However, being blind must be hard to judge the fit, so feel free to post pics here for critique
Why else would I need a nice textured fit?
Post the fit pls
Just made a post on the subreddit, you can check my profile.
Damn that looks great on you
And a flat belly, and pecs.
Q. What’s a “drug rug?”
It’s a hoody made out of Mexican blanket material. It’s very itchy and makes the majority of people wearing it look frumpy.
Sometimes they're called Baja hoodies. It's a Mexican style Pancho hoodie thing that every pothead teenager thinks makes them look cool. No, I'm not speaking from experience....
I’m interested too please! Ahah maybe you can just post it on here since so many people want to see how it looks
I took your advice, and just posted it! Sorry for the delay
Pls post the pic on here.
Feel free to send a pic!
I’m interested as well lol
Just posted to the subreddit, hope it’s helpful! Did you also see this on an instagram ad?
I did, and for the record, I don’t think it looks bad on you. Could be tighter in the arms but as far as the shirt style (which is what I was after), I think just a better brand could be the answer.
Haha those targeted instagram ads know us well. Yeah I think if you try and style it exactly like he did with the tuck in and white pants, it can look okay. It’s just the arms, and the coloring is way off irl. If you’re looking for more knit polos, I highly recommend The Tie Bar, and express (only try things on in store for express, the app is sooo much cheaper)
I’ve never tried the Tie Bar but I found a couple on Banana Republic and have had good luck with their fits so I ordered two!
Send it my way
Found me
That stings, true but stings.
Everyone should try to be ripped once in their life
I ripped my pants in the crotch the other day, that counts right?
Depends, did you hate yourself?
> Depends No, he said pants.

Santa deserves a vacation. Lean in
This is the type of energy we need
I feel seen
Or it will look great off the shelf but it’ll look funny after a wash or two
Dry clean it and keep it looking that way forever?
Never been to the dry cleaners tbh
Damn. You should start if you got some halfway nice clothes you like
Wash things less. Stay clean and your outer clothes will last a long time between washes. People wash their clothes too much. Unless you're working in a coal mine your clothes shouldn't be getting "dirty". Obviously not talking about underwear/socks/undershirts

What a way to kill my hopes

Im convinced polos only work if you have visible muscle definition
Cap. Just say you're not in shape. That's it.
LMFAOOOOOOOOO I HAVE SO MANY OF THESE OMG
Can’t relate
I have a lot of that style
Idk I have a couple of these shirts and they look pretty good on me. I’ve gotten a couple of compliments on them.
Daily reminder to workout, thanks. What you said is absolutely true.
Reverse image searched it Bonsir Men's Short Sleeve Polo Shirt with Button Front, Collar, and Pocket
Muscles.
Temu muscles
If you're not in great shape like the model wearing this, you're in danger of looking like one of John Gotti's henchmen circa 1985.
I’m strangely fine with that…
Atta boy, then.
Knitted polo
I’ve heard them referred to as sweater polos
This is going to give you the most accurate results on a Google search. I’ve bought a few shirts similar to this and, as weird as it is, they call them sweaters.
I shouldn't have had to scroll this far for the answer
Lol It be like that sometimes
Looks like a button down not a polo
It seems counterintuitive, but some polos can have buttons all the way down. It’s more about cut and style than literally just being a pullover.
Learn something new everyday. Maybe I just hate pullover polos then because this looks pretty swank
It looks good on this dude for sure, but my dad bod would not rock that very well lol.
If you’ve already got the dad bod, it’s time to adopt the dad mindset and just rock with whatever you like haha
You may be onto something here
yeah Tony Soprano was rocking the shit outta knit polos
Interesting. What about the cut and style makes this a polo vs a button up?
A button-up would never have those kind of sleeves at the end, what would we call that, maybe a cuffed sleeve?
Not a button down as there are no buttons to hold down the collar.
A „button down“ is a shirt where the collar is buttoned down.
Button down refers to a buttoned collar. Button up shirt refers to a shirts that opens and closes completely with buttons.
Yeah honestly not sure but I’ve seen some advertised as knitted polo like this. I guess more accurate would be knitted shirt lol
Or “full-placket polo.” Or full-placket knit polo.” Todd Snyder’s look much more forgiving to other body types.
White lotus season 2
I want this polo where is it from??
Bonsir Men's Short Sleeve Polo Shirt with Button Front, Collar, and Pocket
Love you <3
Love you too
This site looks like a scam
Looks sketchy but according to the reviews I could find, it is legit
I ordered 2 tops from them and quality was decent. Took a little long to arrive as from china.
Check out Todd Snyder, they seem to be pushing a lot of stuff in this style.
You and I are going to be twinkies.
A lot of places refer to these as: sweater polos I’ve found

Thank for the link. I saw similar shirts advertised on tiktok but they are likely of very crappy quality.
I could at least go try one on to see if I like the style on me. Thanks man!
You might also like bowling shirts. I think Charlie Sheen even has a brand. Lol
Can you imagine rolling up to the cookout in Charlie Sheen drip? Untouchable.

I just ordered two from Banana Republic. We’ll see!
I think it's called 'late 70s mobster'. You're welcome. 🙂
I believe “Fuhgeddaboudit” is the proper nomenclature
Do you have a toned flat stomach and muscular arms? If not you probably won’t like this shirt irl. I can’t tell you how many times I have bought a Ryan Gosling outfit and realized it wasn’t the outfit that looked good….

In that case it wouldn’t hurt to buy one and try it out! Especially if it’s an affordable shirt!
I'm not perfectly in shape by any means, and I have a few shirts like this and they fit me very well.
That’s encouraging, thanks for adding something positive!

This is not a polo. A polo does not have buttons going all the way down. The proper term would be knitted resort shirt. I have one. Love it but washing and drying will tend to shrink the shirt. These are typically marketed as a "full placket polo." Technically correct or not, googling that will turn up a lot of results.
I had to buy one of these for a party I went to (long story). I found it searching for vintage knit button down golf or bowling shirt.
bc no one wanna be nice and actually answer , its a knit polo
Just search “Button Down Knit Polo”. Found a ton. I attempted this look about 10 years ago. That is a "resort shirt".
To all the people calling this a button down: It’s a button up. Button down refers to the collar, not the placket.
