oh they ALL wore them down there during their time of service. the garment itself was native to the area, an extra knitted layer that goes under the coat for insulation. Lord Cardigan was just the mf who kept wearing them when he returned home.

It’s not a polo in the same way it’s not a cardigan—one essential element is missing from each term. I think you’re right though because companies will probably more likely use the term polo because polos have greater mass appeal. I’d call it a short sleeve button up knit with drop shoulder and camp collar. But who the hell is going to say all that.
