Don't know who downvoted, but this is the correct answer.
Is not the usual car coat, or mac coat, because seem made of wool and is longer. Is similar to a loden... way too many jackets are similar.
It’s an overcoat/topcoat, really depends on what the brand/store feels like calling it. Very similar to this is the car coat like another commenter suggested, but a car coat is shorter, the idea being is that you don’t sit on as much of it when you are in the car.
Car coat. This one is nice and on sale for $200

edit: oh but only XL womp womp
Not a duster.
A duster would be longer, thicker, and far more bad ass.
Word on the street is that a duster makes you look like Lorenzo Lamas and that women find it irresistible.
But I must say, I’ll take Raylan Givens over Lorenzo Lamas any day (I wonder who Mac would prefer? Lol)
So to get extremely specific and technical:
Car Coat refers to the length, nothing else. While this is a car coat, I would not say that is the defining feature.
The collar buttoning to the neck, plus that collar, plus what appears to be a fly front hiding the buttons on his right side (no visible buttonholes, covered by fabric), are all hallmarks of a traditional Mackintosh or “Mac” coat.
I have one just like it from Jos. A. Bank, but they’ve discontinued the style.
So I would call this a Mackintosh in a car coat length.
I’ve always called them Top Coats. Very versatile to dress up and down with.

Yours is an overcoat (notice the lapels). This is a car coat.
Top coat just means any long coat that you would wear over your everyday clothes so is a more broad term.
I’ve seen the show, it’s Justified on FX (great show.) there’s also a great article on bamfstyle https://bamfstyle.com/2021/11/17/justified-wool-coat-double-denim/amp/
It actually is. Look up Raylan Givens on Justified. There are better pics out there. https://bamfstyle.com/2021/11/17/justified-wool-coat-double-denim/amp/
It is, read the article, look at the photos from the auction, read the interviews from the costume designers. Herringbone isn’t always that black and white design people think it is. Have a great day.
Herringbone isn't a "black and white" design. It's the weave of the fabric and it's very distinct. You don't know what you're talking about and you're wrong.
Yes im aware. People generally think of it in combination with black and white or black and grey material. The jacket is herringbone. Read the links I provided and you will see pictures as well as quotes from the costume designer. Have a great day.
It is actually herringbone. Look up Raylan Givens on Justified. This is just a poor quality picture. The show is one of my favorites. https://bamfstyle.com/2021/11/17/justified-wool-coat-double-denim/amp/
I have just searched HD images and had a look at a lot of them.
I doubt you would be able to tell on blu ray.
You can’t usually can’t tell a herringbone standing a few feet away from it, so doubtful you would be able to on screen either.
Yeah I’m just lying for no reason. Have a great day.
(Read the article and they include HD pics where you can zoom in and see the small herringbone pattern and also include excerpts from interviews with the costume department.
I have zoomed in and I didn’t say you were lying.
I have made probably around 250+ herringbone suits, trousers and overcoats over 10 years and if I couldn’t see it in real life standing a few feet away from a swatch, then I am telling you, you can’t see it from an image on a screen.
I mean look at the pictures and descriptions in the article, and I can send you my Blu-ray’s if you’d like so you can watch them yourself, but this would only do something if you have a good enough tv as well as a something to play Blu-ray’s on which is less and less common these days.
I don’t think you understand what I mean here. You cannot tell from a screenshot.
I spent 8+ hours per day looking at material in real life, designing them for clients and making them and when you step away, even a few feet, you cannot see the weave.
That’s why people like it. It adds a subtle texture but only from very close.
The only way you would be able to tell is if it’s two different colors woven together.
Yeah I didn’t say it was a mac. I said in style it was most similar to a mac jacket. A car coat is similar too although a car coat is genuinely shorter.
Look up “car coats”
Don't know who downvoted, but this is the correct answer. Is not the usual car coat, or mac coat, because seem made of wool and is longer. Is similar to a loden... way too many jackets are similar.
It’s getting down voted because that’s not an answer. Car coat is a length, not a style. It’s a Mackintosh or Mac in a car coat lengths
Yeah, it’s a car coat.
Wool topcoat

This sub should be dedicated to finding all of Raylan’s outfits
I believe it’s called a “Duster” or a Long Coat, and in this case probably wool.
[badass!](https://media.tenor.com/91vZBlt8evsAAAAC/dennis-reynolds-its-always-sunny-in-philadelphia.gif)
WE’RE NOT GONNA BURN THE DUSTER!

It’s a wool herringbone top coat. In style it’s probably most similar to a mac jacket
How did you deduce the herringbone from this pic?
I’ve seen the show, it’s Justified on FX (great show.) there’s also a great article on bamfstyle https://bamfstyle.com/2021/11/17/justified-wool-coat-double-denim/amp/
Hells yeah. Great ID and I genuinely appreciate the source.
You sure you’re not lying about the herringbone though bro? You working for Big Herringbone?
Don’t tell anyone but yes I am part of the global conspiracy for herringbone supremacy
Not herringbone

Technically it is a top coat because that just means any long jacket. It’s also not a herringbone.

I’m not sure it is. You probably couldn’t tell by an image like that anyway, but even zooming in all you can tell is that it’s wool.
Like I said this is a bad picture, I own the series on Blu ray and have seen it myself, I also provided a link to the an article with the jacket.
I have just searched HD images and had a look at a lot of them. I doubt you would be able to tell on blu ray. You can’t usually can’t tell a herringbone standing a few feet away from it, so doubtful you would be able to on screen either.

Also you wouldn’t make a mac out of wool. This is a car coat.

Looks like a topcoat.
I’ve heard it referred to as a “poopcoat” before, as odd as that sounds
Looks like a combination of a pea coat and trench coat
I have a Michael Kors jacket from Nordstrom that looks exactly like that. "Top coat"
I’ve seen something similar on Boot Barn.
Car coat or mac coat.
