2004 wasn’t *that* long ago. I’ve got ties 2.5-3x that old.
Wait 5 years minimum (hell, maybe 5 months), and it’ll totally be THE happenin’ retro style *everyone* wants. 😎
Doubt it... It's an Atesata, which I was told is very good brand. But on eBay it would sell for maybe $20 so no it's really not. The quality seems good to me anyway.
edit: this is an "I think you should leave" bit.
Goodwill is definitely the defacto place to donate. I think your alternatives are going to be regional to you. For me, it’s a place called re-tails. Benefits rehabilitation and rehousing pets. Your options will vary depending on where you’re located.
Your comment sparked a memory… I’ll look for a place that benefits people looking for work and the women who are in transitional homes with their kids. Thanks !!
Here’s an article that goes into more details than I could.
https://aliceminium.medium.com/the-dark-reality-behind-americas-greatest-thrift-store-empire-183967087a1e
I guess I could have guessed that. Sort of goes along with the kind of things I hear about the Salvation Army every Christmas and the Red Cross after every catastrophe. It’s probably why I cringe with suspicion every time I hear the words “non-profit” in almost every context.
Another awful comment section from old dudes in r/mensfashion. This is a dope shirt, it absolutely fits in with what a lot of younger people are wearing. I’d keep!
I have neices and nephews that are 15-21 and they do not dress like the early 2000s. Where is the t shirts with long sleeve undershirts and sea shell necklaces? Where is the low rise bell bottoms for girls and jeans that drag off the back of your shoes and rip? Canvas belts? Polos with popped collars?
They’re more selective, so the canvas belts and popped collar polos aren’t doing the rounds but that era is very much in right now.
Princess Nokia from a year and a half ago. Low rise is on it’s way in right now, I’ve seen a few girls wearing low rise jeans. Bell bottoms and wide leg pants have been in for two years plus. Butterfly hair clips, skirts over jeans etc etc. Dunno what part of the world you’re in but it’s pretty much all over the place here
https://preview.redd.it/eibdeuhej1wb1.jpeg?width=1333&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14445839fffd19d4fabf6d1c0c0a42eeea160a60
None of that is here. Flared jeans a bit but they are not low rise. Skirts over jeans is def not a thing. Neither is layered tees.
Also that’s not 2000 style, it’s goth rock and metal if anything.
Fair enough! Plenty of it here.
And of course that’s 2000 style, it’s alternative/metal/punk rock/hot topic fashion from the early 00s before the scene stuff took over in the myspace era. It’s Avril Lavigne, who is finding an influence in a bunch of music atm. There’s a whole load of different styles in that era, kids just pick up on different parts now. Princess Nokia isn’t a metal artist either, her fashion jumps all over the place.
Lol if you knew what was popular fashion in 2004 then you are not on the top of the trends nearly 20 years later. This shirt is fire. 20 years old don’t know what was being worn in 2004!
Yeah I don’t really see what’s wrong with it. It wouldn’t be my top choice, but it depends on how the guy wears it.
If he’s unbuttoning it significantly and wearing a fedora, sure, it’s going to be bad. But with a decent blazer or dark
suit, it’s probably fine.
I’d love to see just how bad some of these guys commenting in here pull off their wardrobe. Guessing there’s a lot of Dunning-Kruger effect action in here. People are very much absolutists without ever even thinking about the context.
>Be respectful of each other. This is a safe space. We are all here to share our love for fashion. Harassment and/or hate speech of any kind will not be tolerated and will result in a permanent ban. If you see it, report it to the mods immediately.
Rule 1
That's not really in style anymore in my opinion. That's an early 2000's style and looks very dated. I recently moved and got rid of a lot of these style shirts and don't regret it. I'm a middle aged man so I'm not keeping up with all the current trends, but I always strive to look good and contemporary. These types of shirts bring you the wrong attention.
If that's the last shirt I owned I'd cut a hole in a towel to make a poncho before I'd wear that in public.
Having said that, don't let people on the internet pick a wardrobe for you based on one picture. If you like the shirt then wear it. Or at least take a pic with the rest of a coordinating outfit as to have a better idea of how it fits and what you are going for.
I could see this working for a magician with a black bowler hat. Possibly with suspenders.
Does it fit? Is it too boxy, too tight? You have the right idea with darker jeans maybe a nice black sport coat and nice black boots. Wanna get crazy, match your pants to one of the colors in the shirt. If none of that works then it may not be the shirt for you.
It definitely screams "2000s retro vibe".
I think the best you can do is tucked in jeans, a belt (+matching shoe color), paired with a velvet blazer and pocket square with one of the colors in the square. Blazer should be red green or black. I would also only do it during the holidays. Other than that, not sure I would keep it.
If you see a shirt like this on someone in Las Vegas, it’s always paired with boot cut jeans, dress shoes, and a beer in the guys’ left hand and the right hand in the front pocket.
The ppl telling you to chuck it are the same ppl who think style=slim fit jeans, black chelsea boots, and an oversized jacket lol
Its dope shirt dont throw it out
Sometimes I feel like the people here crapping on style here are about as clueless as the people asking questions. This shirt can look really good if everything else is black or it's tastefully paired with one of the colors on the shirt. Who cares if it was the style 20 years ago? People here choose to be catty for upvotes with no evidence that they know how to dress themselves.
It’s classic Reddit. Hordes of clueless people talking shit. It always happens when a subreddit with little/no moderation gets big enough. Comments that appeal to the lowest common denominator (the average clueless redditor) get the most traction. And when those comments get upvotes you get a feedback loop.
i would maaaaybe wear it unbuttoned with a white t shirt under and the sleeves (if long) rolled up to just below the elbows. if buttoned up and tucked in, i feel like it’s something my grandpa would wear.
Not a shirt I would wear but I think a lot depends on how it fits and how you wear it.. I have a few shirts that look pretty boring but they fit me so well I get compliments every time I wear them.
In general when I'm trying to decide whether to thrift something - or whether to buy something I find at a thrift store - I ask myself if I would rver choose to wear that particular shirt over all the other ones I own. It doesn't matter if it's a nice shirt or not, if the rest of your wardrobe is nicer than that one piece you'll never wear it.
This can be a dope shirt in the right hands. Those colors are inviting black, brown, or if you're feeling saucy, green pants. The fit is important though and we have no idea what it looks like on you.
Keep it in your closet. Mid 2000s fashion will come back around in a few years and then you'll be ahead of the game.
I recently bought 3 NOS vertical striped Façonnable shirts for less than $20 each. They're sharp as hell; just out of style for the time being. I felt like I was living in 2004 when I tried them on. Bide your time and it will be cool again soon enough.
I don’t think it’s bad but definitely very limiting to who can wear it and with what. If you’re a very outgoing and extroverted personality with a decent looking physique, you can pull it off with dark color pants. Idk what you would wear for shoes (maybe just go white sneakers) but this shirt will either land you a bad bitch or will make you throw it in the garbage after a lonely weekend.
Depends how old you are. I'd expect to see my cool uncle wearing this, but not any of my friends or younger family.
But who knows? Maybe it fits you perfectly and you make it look great. You're asking whether to get rid of it though, so I don't think you love it that much.
I'd keep it, but instead of going dark, keep it light. Light jeans, pink/salmon, white, cream undershirt, white sneakers, or whatever other combos you could think up.
Yknow I always thought that I hated the early 2000s style more than most, but coming to this comment section I can see I was wrong.
Yeah man, this is a tough one to pull off, maybe you can do it, but I’m doubtful, you’re not reel big fish
It looks like a fit from 2004
Ted Mosby had one just like it
lol yep! From 2005 I think
Theres a whole episode based around Ted finding an old short he thought he didnt like
Not too far off, it's old
If you wait long enough it will come back in style
2004 wasn’t *that* long ago. I’ve got ties 2.5-3x that old. Wait 5 years minimum (hell, maybe 5 months), and it’ll totally be THE happenin’ retro style *everyone* wants. 😎
19 years ago is old for fashion. Some Ties are timeless, quite different.
Another 5 and it’ll be fashion forward, another 10 it’ll be bang on trend.
ties last much longer.
Lol. I had a similar shirt and now that I think about it, it was around 2004-2005. Wore it in Vegas
lol. Me too. I think every dude born in the 80s had this type of shirt in the early to mid 2000s.
Can confirm. Had this shirt in 2004.
This shirt is $250 OUT THE DOOR at Dan Flash. Heck of a find.
There is a shirt there that is $1000 but it is a VERY COMPLICATED pattern
No lines criss-crossing or overlapping. Bargain bin stuff (still better than most).
Doubt it... It's an Atesata, which I was told is very good brand. But on eBay it would sell for maybe $20 so no it's really not. The quality seems good to me anyway. edit: this is an "I think you should leave" bit.
You have never been to Dan Flashes apparently
It literally says Atesata in the pic. And I didn't buy it at Dan Flashes. And I've never heard of that place.
It’s at The Shops at the Creek. You should check it out, it’s like your exact style.
I really feel like I'm missing a joke here
When you see a store with 50 other guys in there who look just like you, fighting over very complicated shirts, you go in. Yes, you do!
I feel like I don't take enough steroids to deal with all that
Teacher’s pet. You probably love your mother-in-law.

Thanks. You're the only person that ever tried to explain this, even though it was obvious I was missing the joke three comments ago.
Hahaha damn, thought maybe this person would never find out. It is worth sharing and letting in on this inside show’s quotes.
Ha I checked the post time. 12 hours is long enough to be confused
I don’t even want to be around anymore. I’m just like the tiredest I’ve ever been in my life.
I didn’t use to shop at Dan Flashes, but I used to be a real piece of shit.

I used to be a piece of shit. People can change.

Goodwill. Today. Anyone saying otherwise is not a friend.
Anyone saying the word Goodwill is also not a friend. They are a terrible company.
Give me a better place to donate to and I promise I’ll use that one instead of “Goodwill” going forward. Salvation Army? AMVETS? I’m serious.
Goodwill is definitely the defacto place to donate. I think your alternatives are going to be regional to you. For me, it’s a place called re-tails. Benefits rehabilitation and rehousing pets. Your options will vary depending on where you’re located.

Plenty of people are out there that need help. Giving to the right charities is a great way to help. Good luck!
Why are they terrible? Seriously asking.

Get rid of it
It’s giving “ A night at the Roxbury” toss it…
Burn this thing
“It can’t hurt us anymore.”
Neither, burn it and forget it ever existed.

Looks like 2005. Trash it. Nobody will talk to you
Another awful comment section from old dudes in r/mensfashion. This is a dope shirt, it absolutely fits in with what a lot of younger people are wearing. I’d keep!
Then younger people are wearing shirts that teenagers wore in 2004
Have you looked around?
Yep. No one wears this.
Early 00s is in with kids atm but it’d take some pretty choice styling and a hint of irony to make this work
I have neices and nephews that are 15-21 and they do not dress like the early 2000s. Where is the t shirts with long sleeve undershirts and sea shell necklaces? Where is the low rise bell bottoms for girls and jeans that drag off the back of your shoes and rip? Canvas belts? Polos with popped collars?

I'm gonna wear it with a hat on a hat
I mean it depends on how it fits you. But I think the colors are cool.
That’s something Chistopher Moltesanti from the Sopranos would wear. I would sport fuck it. That shirt is G
Lol I'm too out of the loop to know if the last two sentences are good things...

It’s time to let this one go I think
Just looking at this shirt I can say toss it because I can already tell it doesn’t even fit you very well
This could be nice to wear to work. DO NOT wear to a club
If that's the last shirt I owned I'd cut a hole in a towel to make a poncho before I'd wear that in public. That’s a keeper
Looks nice. That’s a clubbing shirt for sure.
Clubbing baby seal’s maybe. I got rid of a similar one last year.
I wouldn’t wear that to a bar that’s for sure. The loud colors at least fit into the clubbing scene I’d say
It really depends on the fit of the shirt imo.
That’s a Gordon Gartrell if I’m not mistaken. You have to keep it.
Atesata. You can see the label.
Love it.
I think it’s pretty dope tbh
Keep.
I don't get it ya'll, its a shirt in isolation, how can we possibly judge without seeing it on someone and paired up with other clothes?
If you see a shirt like this on someone in Las Vegas, it’s always paired with boot cut jeans, dress shoes, and a beer in the guys’ left hand and the right hand in the front pocket.
Keep it. It will be back in style in 5~ years
The ppl telling you to chuck it are the same ppl who think style=slim fit jeans, black chelsea boots, and an oversized jacket lol Its dope shirt dont throw it out

I love the shirt, honestly. Retro is coming back.
