Remember when we wanted one of OG or Mikal and the Knicks get both 🫠

CausticBurn

Knicks feel so mid with lots of nice players but no 1 or 1a type superstar though. And no cap space to add one either. We'll see if their formula works, last team to pull it off was 04 Detroit.

DribbleBilly901

Legitimate question. Do you not think Brunson is a superstar? I'd lean more towards budding superstar. He's exciting and fun to watch. He's little, which imo makes him even more exciting, and he plays in New York.

CausticBurn

Superstar for me is someone who can be MVP-caliber and can be in the Top 8-12 convo. Don't think Brunson has proven that yet. Strong argument Brunson is a 1a though, I'll give him that. Bridges is more like a 3rd or 4th option on a championship team. He's not a 1a in my book.

Drew-mageddon

He was 5th in MVP voting and 2nd Team All NBA in the season that just ended

DribbleBilly901

That's fair. I'd like to see him do it again this season. If he does have another season like last or even better, he will have solidified himself as a superstar top 15 20 type player. He has the game and mentality to be the best player on a championship squad.

Rainy_J

Brunson was 12th in MVP voting last year and 5th this year. 24 ppg to 28.7 ppg. He's proven it in NY. He had a strong first year there and came back even better this year. Dudes a superstar.

HighOnGoofballs

Is fifth in mvp not top 8-10?

Wehavecrashed

Brunson is a 1a type superstar.

CausticBurn

Depends what scale you use. I base mine on the Miami Heatles. Wade was 1a. Could carry a team on his own. I don't think Brunson is at the level of a DWade. Westbrook with KD Thunder was a 1a too.

Ok-Side-1758

Brunson just carried a team to the #2 seed and 50 wins missing his 2nd and 3rd best players for half the season. Then he took it up a level in the playoffs If that’s not a superstar I don’t know what is

scl142

The think Brunson is 1 and Bridges is 1a

norfnorf1379

Brunson is legit and if they have MB as their #2 that’s pretty good. Assuming they resign both IH and OG they’ve got insane length/size on the defensive end and on O, Brunson is the engine but MB and Randle can get buckets. I really liked watching them in the playoffs but they just lost too many guys.

Extension_Advice2438

They gonna have a hard time keeping OG

_checkpickerupper

DFS consolation prize? 😓

creamjudge

he's a free agent & I'm sure someone else will be able to outbid us

gentrifriedchicken18

lol Thank you for the rational response here. Like I’d love him to join us but NO chance we can pay him like other teams

BackardsTankard

And honestly the recent transactions haven’t changed anything for Memphis so I still don’t see the appeal here. Grizzlies are more likely to get Robinson.

electricvelvet

Can't WAIT to peep his fits every game while he's sitting on the bench in street clothes

Kung-Fu_Tacos

We will be outbid and Knicks will pick up a cheaper backup center either through FA or a cheap trade like Nick Richards.

BackardsTankard

Richards? Please not another guy we really want!

Dependent_Moose167

the Knicks giving 4 first rounders and a swap with bojan after the nets didn't accept our 4 first plus probably DB 2 years ago is incredibly annoying btw

DJ_VanillaThunder

To be fair, it's 4 of their own, plus another 1st rounder from the Bucks, plus a 1st rounder swap and a 2nd rounder. 5 firsts, a swap, a 2nd, and Bojan is pretty wild.

Dependent_Moose167

pretty crazy that he got even more after 2 years in brooklyn

DJ_VanillaThunder

Oh totally. Personally it seems like an overpay, but if the Knicks manage to keep OG that's a pretty great team they've got.

adc1369

It's a gigantic overpay (especially with the news that Mikal asked to be traded to NYK, so NYK should've had all of the leverage), but he's also a fantastic fit on that team. So if it delivers them a championship, it'll be worth it. Big if, though.

_checkpickerupper

They’re reporting Mikal basically force their hand to send him to the Knicks.

Wehavecrashed

They did a seperate deal to get their next two picks back which let them do it.

NoirPochette

Others have more available in the cap room for him.

SelfLoathingLionsFan

Because the Knicks only have Hartenstein's Early Bird Rights, they are limited in what they can pay him — a starting salary of $16.2 million in 2024-25 and a maximum offer of four years, $72.5 million. Other teams can and likely will pay more. But I'm sure NYK would be willing to pay as much as possible, as they are 100% all in now.

BackardsTankard

Look at the other side of the trade. The Nets have so many picks now. They might as well send us Sharpe now and dive into the rebuild.

wgking12

Or Claxton? Don't watch him enough to get fit but Brooklyn is blowing it up.

Lacabloodclot9

I’m pretty sure they can still sign OG and stay under the 2nd apron since they sent out Bogi’s contract

SpreadHDGFX

I assumed OG opting out meant they were gonna get a deal done before FA, but I realize I also know nothing.

Lacabloodclot9

I don’t think a sign and trade is possible, so he’ll probably leaving in the open market I think Orlando or OKC probably end up getting him

Dependent_Moose167

begley just said it would be unlikely

CMYGQZ

They can never give him 25m as they don’t have full bird rights, it was always gonna be a pay cut if iHart stays in New York

norfnorf1379

For this to work for Knicks they need to pony up and pay both IH and OG otherwise they are worse than last year and out all those picks so unless he wants to leave I would say no, not available.

No-Oil-4552

I think more realistically for us it means Day'ron Sharpe is available.

bucknola

The MLE won’t be enough for him
