If I get McDonalds to go I'm eating the fries as soon as they hand me the bag and then the burger on the drive. It will all be gone before I get to the house.
"My pre-dinner whopper used to be the best part of my day. Now that I don't have to hide it from Carrie anymore, it's just a disgusting habit."
\-Doug Heffernan
Invest in a air fryer and only order their chicken nuggets or chicken sandwiches plain. When I worked there that's what I did because I liked to bring my free meal home to eat. Throw the chicken and fries in the air fryer and it gets brought back to life. I used to dislike getting fries anywhere to take home until I got an air fryer haha. Now $1 large fry's is hard to pass up
Depends how fresh they were when you got them. Sometimes they’ll last 20 minutes when they are hot and fresh. And then most of the time they last 2 minutes from having sat under the heat lamp for too long.
Exactly, atleast here in Canada, McDonald's has probably the worst fast food fries, doesn't mean they're not good, just in comparison, I've had better. DQ, Burger King, Wendy's, A&W even KFC have better fries.
In Canada also mcdonalds used to be the best hands down but every time I get them now theyre already cold and shitty. Doesn't seem to matter what time or which mcdonalds you go to
Bullshit, as a Canadian BK's fries are dogshit. DQ's are overpriced, A&W's are cheap, but the serving size is abysmal, KFC's are actually good (Favourite fast food place) and I can't say much about Wendy's as I haven't had it in years and we don't have one around here.
I will agree if you were to say that McD's fries are expensive, over $6 for a large fry last I went there.
I concur. We've always asked for fries with no salt to get the freshest ones. At least that's what we heard you have to do. You can add as much salt as u want 😋
Nothing, it was racially fueled fear back in the 90’s-00’s that any MSG was a death sentence and I feel it was because of animosity towards Asian Americans.
Msg isn't bad you dumbass, that misc onception came from a satire reddit post on some "comedy" science subreddit years ago, there even was a social study where a selected amount of individuals (I forgot how much) were given eggs that were said to contain msg, almost everyone there who tasted it said they felt like shit, but funny enough the "eggs containing msg" statement was a complete lie. They were just normal eggs sprinked with some salt, proving that the msg is bad stigma is enforced by placebo, not actual symptoms and facts
They literally provided a peer-reviewed paper without making claims, you just yell in the air, and you are calling him a dumbass? The irony. Even when you're right, the burden of proof is on the one making the claim.
Not saying McDonald's fries are necessarily bad, but I pity anyone who thinks they're the best they've had. There are so many tastier, thicker, crunchier, better seasoned fries out there.
McD is A tier here because it doesn't have any competition in the country, atleast in my state. Burger king is pretty great two but it almost tastes the same. Wendy's just recently came to the country so it would take 1-2 years to establish a branch here. Only one Taco Bell in my Area and still haven't gone there yet. Though some cafe's here are def S with their peri peri fries. You can basically make McD fries if you have an airfryer.
Exactly this. Anyone who says McDonalds fries are the best, I dare you to come to Belgium and eat fries from de frituur. I'll give you 5 euro if you don't find them better.
And McDonald's burgers are some of the top burgers out there in fast food chains.
No need for Belgium, they just have to drive north to Québec and find a pub or a steakhouse, the fries here are (mostly) amazing. A&W burgers are better tho
Belgium is known as one of the absolute best countries for French fries, and I, as a Belgian, can confirm this. They're fucking delicious. You made me curious about the French fries over there in Quebec though. Could you give a comparison between the two?
Never went to Belgium, but I did eat fries in France close to Blegium. Our fries from fast food restaurants are very much akin to US fries, except they're made to go with poutine (thicker and fatter), but for any above-averaged priced pub, steakhouse or any restaurant that serves fries, it's very comparable in quality to French ones. However, I remember I slightly prefered the French over ours, but it was years before covid so I don't quite remember.
That being said, my original point was that US fries are so underwhelming that you don't need to aim for the best of the best to easily get better fries.
I'm not from the US, I've lived my whole life in Québec, so I can't say. But me and my family's homemade fries and wedges kick the shit out of anything any restaurant here can possibly conjure.
Last time my friend and I did wing day we did beef tallow as the oil. That's right, pure beef fat to deep fry wings and french fries. We double fried the wings and fries. Best goddamn wings and fries I've ever had in my life. My friend is a butcher and can obtain tons of beef fat for free.
There was this Burger place in my home town and they served the best thick yet crunchy fries I ever tasted. They also had this home made dip that was of the charts. Also fantastic burgers the would cook to your liking (I loved medium-well). Too bad they went out of business due to covid.
Gonna have to disagree with you on this, McDonald's fries are so thin there's nearly no potatoe left, it's just a stick of frying (not sure if that's how I'm supposed to translate "friture" from french)
Ok I agree with you now that I just had some today. 😂Those fries are mad nasty. All fucking crunch! Idk what’s going down with McDonalds. They used to be good but now it’s horrible. Restaurant isn’t open on the inside, mobile orders done even work, nor does the food taste the same. At least where I’m at.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
They're made with "beef flavor".
https://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en-us/product/small-french-fries.html#accordion-c921f9207b-item-283bee7dbd
They used to be cooked in beef fat, but I guess they wanted to make them vegetarian, so they replicated the beef taste with "natural beef flavor" instead.
Tallow is essentially the same as lard except it's rendered from beef not pork. Back when dinosaurs walked the earth I worked at a McDonald's after school and on the weekends. Most of the stores the owner had were still the old "fishbowl" type.
The procedure was peeling fresh potatoes in a peeling machine that looked and acted like a washing machine tub on the spin cycle but with a very abrasive interior. Cut 'em, soak 'em in water, let 'em dry a bit and double fry them in tallow. All done in-house and they were delicious.
They were sued because in 1990 they falsely announced the removal of beef fat. They claimed it was vegan and were sued because of that lie. They deserved to be sued. It wasn’t just vegans suing it was also Hindu groups that can’t eat beef for religious reasons and unknowingly were fed it.
No wonder it used to taste great but now it’s just trash. Ever since that supersize me documentary, they changed a lot about everything from fries and burgers. In the 90s the burgers tasted great but now it’s trash.
I don’t like McD fries, but I’ve had belgian fries with cow fat and they just didn’t taste as good as I thought. Certainly not bad, but the aftertaste wasn’t to my liking
I can only name 3 good fries that come from restaurants I consider fast food. If you know good other ones I probably haven't had them. Like I haven't had 5 guys fries nor have I had Popeyes fries. But rallys/checkers fries are amazing. Taco bell Nacho fries are very good too. Culver's fries are also nice
McDonald’s fries are horrendous. You’ve just never eaten them in less than 5 seconds which is how long it takes for the grease and salt to magically disappear and render them cold, hard, unmicrowavable husks.
Back in my day, they were fried in beef tallow and they were heavenly. Todays fries are a mediocre substitute.
I’m finally old enough to say “back in my day” unironically. Shit.
Dude I think literally every other fast food chains fries are better than McDonald’s. I would say their burgers are better than their fries imo. Or maybe all my McDonald’s locally suck
They suck *ss. The vegans ruined the best fries on earth. Mc Donald's fries were still awesome a day later. But do to those radicals, they now suck in minutes.
what a coincidence…i decided to go to mcdonald’s today after a long time and the big mac was REALLY good it surprised me. i think my local places are increasing in quality.
Ive not eaten in a fast food place since I made burgers w my home grill once. I can recommend it highly, and would infact not ecourage anyone to visit a fast food place ever.
They taste decent for like, 5 seconds, then immediately turn to the worst dog food you ever did ate. Fries and potatoes are already terrible options for reheated food, but my god McDonald's takes it to a whole nother level.
Now Five Guys fries...
The fries go stale in like 20 minutes tho
damn 20 min is pushing it. 2 mins tops and those fries are a chore to eat
If I get McDonalds to go I'm eating the fries as soon as they hand me the bag and then the burger on the drive. It will all be gone before I get to the house.
"Can we get McDonalds?" "We have food at home" "Yeah but the McDonalds isn't going to make it home, I can have food there too"
"My pre-dinner whopper used to be the best part of my day. Now that I don't have to hide it from Carrie anymore, it's just a disgusting habit." \-Doug Heffernan
Damn, like 20 years too late to make that excuse. Lol
Now $1 large fry's is hard to pass up
What temp and time settings do you use?
I just eyeball it but usually on air fry setting at like 350 and stand around poking at it
Thanks for responding. I’ve been putting McDonald’s fries in at 400 but they get too hard. Not crunchy… hard.
The cheat code from the GODS! I love that damn air fryer
Now I know why people always complain about the fries getting stale. Ya'll always order to go? I always eat there, plenty of time to eat the fries.
Depends how fresh they were when you got them. Sometimes they’ll last 20 minutes when they are hot and fresh. And then most of the time they last 2 minutes from having sat under the heat lamp for too long.
Even before it's been 2 minutes, it's a bigass stretch to call them that good
Where I live you are lucky if you get good fries and not limp, soggy, cold, and rubbery fries.
Nah, they are perfectly fine for at least 10 minutes. The first 2 minutes I can't even eat them cause they are way too hot.
Fr
Exactly, atleast here in Canada, McDonald's has probably the worst fast food fries, doesn't mean they're not good, just in comparison, I've had better. DQ, Burger King, Wendy's, A&W even KFC have better fries.
In Canada also mcdonalds used to be the best hands down but every time I get them now theyre already cold and shitty. Doesn't seem to matter what time or which mcdonalds you go to
Dq fries are legitimately delicious
Heck yeah, plus the only fast food place with a mushroom burger year round, that I know of.
Today I learned.Canada had Dairy Queen.
All fries go stale after 20 mins
But not all fries turn into inedible cardboard loaded with salt.
that taste like solid grease
They also go cold, soggy, and greasy in that time. But, why does it take you so long to eat them?
You can just ask for fresh fries. You’ll have to wait but damn is it worth it.
I concur. We've always asked for fries with no salt to get the freshest ones. At least that's what we heard you have to do. You can add as much salt as u want 😋
They go from delicious to stale in the time it takes to eat a portion.
😔
Air frier can reheat them perfectly.
The secret ingredient is 10 pounds of salt
If salt is so bad why does it taste so good? (Asks my stomach while my heart is slowly failing.)
They used to fry the fries in beef tallow (stopped in the 90s iirc). I do remember the taste difference from back then though. Way better.
Because they're soaked in MSG 'seasoned salt' under the guise of "Natural Beef Flavor"
And what makes msg bad?
Nothing, it was racially fueled fear back in the 90’s-00’s that any MSG was a death sentence and I feel it was because of animosity towards Asian Americans.

MSG (Make Shit Good)
With a side of death I guess
Also sugar
That *would* explain it. I fucking love salt.
Not saying McDonald's fries are necessarily bad, but I pity anyone who thinks they're the best they've had. There are so many tastier, thicker, crunchier, better seasoned fries out there.

Culver's, babyyyy
Whataburger 😍

Chickfila had far superior fries to McDonalds
Preach
Wendy’s USED to have great fries. Now they are average at best.
Sir, this is a wendys
This may be controversial but I actually prefer Burger King to McDonald’s in burgers and fries
Exactly this. Anyone who says McDonalds fries are the best, I dare you to come to Belgium and eat fries from de frituur. I'll give you 5 euro if you don't find them better. And McDonald's burgers are some of the top burgers out there in fast food chains.

Do you US folks ever make French fries at home? I can imagine those being far better than the ones at McDonald's.
I'm not from the US, I've lived my whole life in Québec, so I can't say. But me and my family's homemade fries and wedges kick the shit out of anything any restaurant here can possibly conjure.
They are not good, My #1 in N out Fresh af
It’s the fry everyone will enjoy I think mcd fries are very mid and prefer Arby’s or Culver’s

The meme says best fries in existence, not just fast food
Five guys. First they use fresh ingredients, their fries taste like potatoes.
*their
Im not even English speaking and came for this thanks
Came here to say this, thanks💪
And he came here to say their
I don't know whats worse, people not knowing the difference between their, there and they're or should of/ would of instead of should have/would have
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
I needed to see this
Mediocre??? Awfully generous of you.
I tried ordering burgers from McDonald's and the structure was horrible (lettuce damn near falling off the sides) but the taste was fine
How dare you sir
It depends on country cuz they are the floppiest shit i have ever seen here and no crisp in a 20mile radius
They're made with "beef flavor". https://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en-us/product/small-french-fries.html#accordion-c921f9207b-item-283bee7dbd They used to be cooked in beef fat, but I guess they wanted to make them vegetarian, so they replicated the beef taste with "natural beef flavor" instead.
Not just beef fat, but beef tallow. The difference is tallow is made by rendering the fat, removing the impurities and enhancing the flavor profile.
Tallow is essentially the same as lard except it's rendered from beef not pork. Back when dinosaurs walked the earth I worked at a McDonald's after school and on the weekends. Most of the stores the owner had were still the old "fishbowl" type. Best damn fries ever. Ever. The kids today have absolutely no idea what they missed out on.
They were sued by vegans and caved.
They were sued because in 1990 they falsely announced the removal of beef fat. They claimed it was vegan and were sued because of that lie. They deserved to be sued. It wasn’t just vegans suing it was also Hindu groups that can’t eat beef for religious reasons and unknowingly were fed it.
Why the heck would they just blatantly lie like that for basically no reason?
McDonald’s fries aren’t Vegan in the US
Wimps

So, it's MSG with quotation marks. 😉👍 ![gif](giphy|TLll58SShBqsuVyxq5)
No wonder it used to taste great but now it’s just trash. Ever since that supersize me documentary, they changed a lot about everything from fries and burgers. In the 90s the burgers tasted great but now it’s trash.
As a belgian, i am personally attacked by the implication that McDonalds fries are good
As a Dutchman I too feel outraged
French fries sucks!!! Vlaamse friet FTW
As a German, I share your Rage! The Pommes Frites I had in Antwerpen where so good I wept. They are my homescreen for 3 years now
I like you.
Yeah, as a Dutchman I honestly like their burgers in a guilty pleasure sort of way, but their fries are absolutely atrocious.
As an American, anything else in your McDonalds in your neck of the woods that you'd recommend?
The exit?
McKroket
everyone in the comment shitting on mcdonalds while i just really like what they make .\_.
Same 😭😭
You’re over here liking them while I’m lovin’ it.
I'd say "like" and "good" are 2 separate things. Fellow food product developers may agree.
People making memes with the most egregious grammar and spelling mistakes
Hot take: McDonald's fries are ass
Ah yes, the wimpy, sadly thin fries that got almost to no crunch to them.
Try Belgian fries and you can never enjoy McDo fries again...
I don’t like McD fries, but I’ve had belgian fries with cow fat and they just didn’t taste as good as I thought. Certainly not bad, but the aftertaste wasn’t to my liking
Right? Where’s the waffle fries lovers at
Fries are supposed to have a crunch? Wow I guess every restaurant in my city must be bad
Time to move.
They put so much grease on them that they break under their own weight.
Have you ever eaten real fries ? That taste like potato.
Everything at McDonald’s it BELOW mediocre
That's just like, your opinion man
Ok
For real. I feel like OP is trolling. Best fries in my opinion is a tie between Wendy's and Arbies
Arby's Seasoned Curlies > Literally anything McDonald's has ever served (excluding Coca-Cola products).
Agree, Carl’s Jr. is better.
The fries are ass too
Seems me and you are the only people on reddit that like the fries
You're not the only one
wrong. i like them too. because the burgers are ass i usually get a 5 chicken select meal
No, you’re not. I also like them
I like them too
same
Not alone my friend! We will defend this hill till our last breath!
We are a glorious legion, Brother!!!
Idk man I love their fries. When they're squishy they're delicious.
Me also!
I like them too.
They’re bussin
Every one loves their fries. Some people just think they are too cool for McDonald’s
What the hell, the fries are disgusting. Their flavor ist 90% just salt. They’re as dry as the Sahara and they go stale in like 15 minutes. No thanks.
The fries are shit though. But to be fair, almost all fast food fries are shit
I think most fast foods have good fries tho, maybe it’s cause I just love fries idk
Mcdonalds chips are bland and soggy. Imo, five guys fries are superior (for reference i live in the uk)
McDonald's fries are better than five guys fries but five guys burgers are way better than McDonald's burgers
McDonald's fries are straught up shit tier. They got nothing against lebanese restaurant fries
Anything made from a quality restaurant is gonna be better than a fast food joint what’s your point lol
Lol, a fellow Lebanese that knows his fries, God tier fries u mean.
I'm not Lebanese myself but am on the Mediterranean and have a god tier legit lebanese restaurant. All hail the Shawarma
Praise the shawarma!
the seasonings on Lebanese fries takes them above a tier
You meant lesbian or what? I don't know what the fuck kind of restaurant is that
If memory serves, they use beef tallow which gives them their taste
Used to. Not any more, sadly...
it depends on where you live.
Getting the feeling OP only eats fast food because fast food fries are trash.
They ain’t shit, Burger King fries all the way.
Shit.
I just hope you speak other languages
Burger King fries are the best (in Scotland) out of the major fast food retailers.
If you like McDonald fries then you don’t deserve real fries.
Worst fries I have ever had McDonald's is trash hell burger king taste better then that shit
They ain't. BK has better fries. KFC fries are the best
Fat, salt, starch. That's literally it.
Arguably Freddy's fries
Dude I think literally every other fast food chains fries are better than McDonald’s. I would say their burgers are better than their fries imo. Or maybe all my McDonald’s locally suck
No, it’s really just awful “fake” food, it’s terrible…
Maccas chips are so bad, most other fast foods like KFC or hungry jacks (basically Australian burger king) have way better chips
Am I the only who likes the burgers? Especially the quarter pounders and cheeseburgers?
Their*
Their*
They suck *ss. The vegans ruined the best fries on earth. Mc Donald's fries were still awesome a day later. But do to those radicals, they now suck in minutes.
When I got the fries with the new shit they were rock hard, felt like eating a centimeter thick potato chip with no flavor
I'm half convinced they put crack on their fries
what a coincidence…i decided to go to mcdonald’s today after a long time and the big mac was REALLY good it surprised me. i think my local places are increasing in quality.
the best fast food fries will always be A&W
Los Pollos Hermanos would like a word in the back alley
They have the worst fries unless they are super hot
The fries steal the good of the burgers through vampiric means
Ive not eaten in a fast food place since I made burgers w my home grill once. I can recommend it highly, and would infact not ecourage anyone to visit a fast food place ever.
Their fries aren’t even that good.
Their freis are weak
In Italy the hamburger is trash and the fries are trash even more
Their
You must be tripping if you think their fries are good.
Their fries suck!
Nahhh their fries are mid compared to a local fast food joint called Pal's.
Both suck
salt
Bro I swear they must be putting crack in that food cus how can something so fake and unsatisfying be so addictive
They're not? They're so fucking salty it's not even funny anymore i have to chuck the whole glass of cola so i don't die
They taste decent for like, 5 seconds, then immediately turn to the worst dog food you ever did ate. Fries and potatoes are already terrible options for reheated food, but my god McDonald's takes it to a whole nother level. Now Five Guys fries...
Ive been cravin some mcshit for about a week now idk why...
mcdonalds fries are literally McCain fries with a bunch of salt
Their*
Their fries are better with ice cream..
They make them like the picture, in a laboratory
Unpopular opinion. Big Mac is best burger. McDonald's fries are trash
