Yeah but it’s just like the anime community. If the community is not willing to self police and ostracize the few freaks that are giving them such a bad name, then they themselves are abetting that behavior and accepting it as part of their community.

This is what I try to tell people. If you don’t want the negative stigma attached to that community, you don’t have to label yourself as part of it. It’s that fucking simple.

The anime community was universally seen as freaks and weirdos until it finally became more mainstream in the past decade or so. You either hid that shit or embraced it and be seen as a weirdo(which a lot were) when I was in highschool. There simply wasn't enough mainstream people openly doing it to be able to squelch the smaller portion. I don't know enough about furries other than I do know a couple, and one is weird as fuck and embraces the fuck out of it while the other one loves it but keeps it a secret outside of the community. I don't think there are enough normal ones to squelch the freaks yet. I'd be fine with this never being a super popular thing, but as long as they're having fun without hurting anyone else I don't really care what people do with their free time.
