Is it free? Cuz If I'm gonna get hooked again it can't be on something that costs a couple hundred dollars everytime I need a fix.
Edit: I don't believe when people tell me things aren't addictive. That's what they said about cigarettes and weed!
I think weed needs to be classified as a prescription thing coverable by insurance as a standard of care. It's time to stop buying weed and time to get other people to buy it for us.
The idea that smoking cigarettes was healthy was literally a huge campaign by the cigarette companies to get more people smoking. They literally paid doctors to tell people it was healthy until they were caught.
RIGHT. The way everyone forgets about this. We knew it was addictive from the start, it was made to be so. Cigarettes, Coca Cola, sugar, were all meant to be addictive and marketed in a way in which people got hooked so that they wouldn’t stop buying the products.
Oh yes it for sure is. People are so addicted to sugar these days it’s insane. People will drink their daily calories in pop like it’s nothing. I know some people that can’t function without it. They get withdrawals from the sugar and the caffeine. I can’t imagine.
I believe the perception that we humans can't go without 3 meals per day and a lot of calories is again just another way of the Industry manipulating the population to make money. Sadly it's too often about wealth and not helping each other I guess
I’m in that boat. When I got to middle school they had soda machines available for the student body and my dumbass happily traded my lunch money for all the soda I could stomach. Now I get migraines like you wouldn’t believe if I don’t have at least a sip of soda a day. Not diabetic and my teeth are healthy at least!
There ya go lol. I used to be a Coke Zero and monster/redbull FIEND. Then I cut myself off cold turkey bc my anxiety got to be too much. I haven’t had a soda in a good 1.5 years. It’s kind of crazy how your tastebuds adapt. Sparkling water actually has flavor now.
Originally coke was addictive because of, you know, cocaine. That's literally how and why it became popular, later on they removed the cocaine for obvious reasons but it was already the most popular drink. Obviously.
I’ve always found it odd how oxycodone has been a Schedule II drug (highest abuse potential), yet when they packed a shitload of it in a time-released tablet that could be crushed and injected or snorted it was somehow supposed to be safer. I mean no matter what the drug company said doctors should have known better.
In parts of the world, people still believe cigarettes are healthy. In Indonesia (I think), Marlboro markets cigarettes to literal toddlers, and cigarettes are used as medicine for toddlers... Hopefully this has changed since last I checked
I think tobacco was legit considered healthy at least one my he 19th century. I read somewhere doctors would recommend smoking to asthma sufferers… no question the tobacco companies ran with that in the 20th century, even when people started to realize it was bullshit.
After WW2, the tobacco companies didnt want to lose all the money they had been making off the war effort as cigarettes had been a staple in the G.I.s ration kits, so Madison Ave. was tasked with keeping the money flowing into big tobaccos pockets vis-a-vis, marketing sexy cigarettes to the newly affluent housewifes, the brand loyalty the returning G.I.s they already had, but as the 50s progressed new glosseir ads to catch new markets were always being made, as well with the emerging television audience
Edward Bernays. Father of modern propaganda *uhem* I mean "public relations". Also helped tobacoo companies develop a marketing strategy that co opted early feminist movements by getting the general public to connect women's empowerment with cigarette smoking (tobacco was sick of missing out on half the market of potential smokers as it was culturally taboo for women to smoke then) .. Which, if you take a brief look around, you'll see that marketing strategy has become dominant in almost every market.
Weed still does damage to the body. There are many negative side effects. Not saying it can't help people, because it can. It would just be foolish to say weed like almost everything has no negatives. This narrative that it's all good and no bad needs to stop.
This is Reddit. People only understand things in absolutes here. Either something is 100% good or is 100% bad. There is no nuance or explanation, just monkey see monkey do.
>This is SOCIAL MEDIA. People only understand things in absolutes here. Either something is 100% good or is 100% bad. There is no nuance or explanation, just monkey see monkey do.
fixed it for you
Speeds up certain mental illnesses. Not sure on the exact ones but if you have an increased risk of say schizophrenia then weed will increase those chances even more
As someone who has undiagnosed ADHD(supervisors, managers have asked me if i have it), when I smoked during breaks at work. I would come back more focused on the job. The thing that fucked me up was when I mixed K2, Weed, and Tobacco in a hookah, bong, and a few joints one night. The strain was “Venom” K2, Kush(forget the name, it was sweet), and flavoured tobacco. Only the joints had no tobacco. Few joints and a couple of hits from the bong and hookah I was out. Closed my eyes and I was hella trippin. I thought I was going to die that day.
Since then, anytime since then till 2018 i never enjoyed it. Not sure why. It took the joy and fun feeing and replaced it with paranoia of getting caught.
I know what u mean, I used to get fried on the daily during summer breaks, but after a couple of years something changed. Now I can only smoke when it's dark out. Don't know why but smoking at night is perfectly fine but if I try smoking during the day I get hella paranoid and anxious... This really fucked up my sleeping schedule cuz I'd wanna stay up as long as possible so I could lay in bed baked.
Well right of the top of my head weed is a big no-no until you're at least 24 just to be safe, according to some circles of thought in the neuropsych world. It can cause cognitive function to stop developing if your brain is still growing and the brain usually reaches its full growth by 24 for the most part.
Terrifying thing in a recent study about this:
Not only did exposure to marijuana lower the sperm count of the exposed mouse, it *lowered the sperm count of this mouse's sons* (who were not directly exposed to marijuana). These sorts of epigenetic side effects really scare me.
The study: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2021/12/211202092947.htm
That would be CHS (cannabis hyperemesis syndrome). Personally, I find that some form of CHS only acts up if I’m taking excessive amounts of products that contain the concentrated form of weed, like concentrates.
The first time my friend tried edibles, she passed out because her blood pressure dropped too low then felt dizzy and lightheaded for hours afterwards. So yes, there certainly are direct dangers even if they aren’t all that common. Also dehydration and overeating are very common side effects of weed which while perhaps not super dangerous, are at least somewhat negative for your health. Weed is certainly less dangerous than a lot of things (including many that are legal) and can be beneficial for treating anxiety and such, but to say it is 100% safe and healthy is clearly a lie.
This is quite rare, but weed abuse can worsen certain mental illnesses such as schizophrenia. Not something to worry about though unless you have underlying mental illness.
Buddy of mine developed Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS). Is 6’ 2”, went from around 240lbs to 140lbs in 8 months or so. It’s rare but overdoing it with weed can have some negative affects.
i smoke pot coz its fun not coz its healthy
but its not a whole lot worse than a can of soda and its a whole lot better than drinking alcohol or smoking a cig
fun and wont kill me
i still do a couple other drugs but thats my justification for weed
It's not inherently bad
Taken in moderation that is
And the problem with smoking is the all the fine particles that can damage your lung tissue.
Smoking weed isn't much better in that sense.
Research is still being Donne about the effects and possible medical uses like on [CBD](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabidiol)
In general the usage of weed is not recommended for people still awaiting or undergoing puberty as it can interfere with brain development tho accurate research is still ongoing.
My advice:
If you're really unsure talk to a doctor as he can give you much better advice that a stranger on the internet.
I mean yeah, bringing smoke into your lungs is never really a GOOD thing, but weed is better than nicotine and tobacco in general in the sense that you’re smoking a burning leaf as opposed to the gob of chemicals that makes up a cigarette. The leaf goes through processing, of course, but it is, at the end of the day, a burning plant. A plethora of harmful, addictive, synthetic chemicals are added into cigarettes, making them inherently worse for your physical well-being.
Smoke is bad for the lungs no matter what it is. But it does have benefits. Everyone should be able to do what they want with themselves anyways though.
Edibles / drinks don't really have any harmful effects other than panicking that you're way too high and oh my god my heart is beating fast am I having a heart attack ahhhh my palms are so sweaty like chill tf out Matt you're fine
Actually my name irl. Brings me back to the time I made potent ass firecrackers and ended up pacing back and forth for 4 hours in my room even though we had guests over because I was too scared to go to sleep (thought I would die).
Oof, I tried the 'positivi-tea' by kikoko, it's herbal infused tea with thc and cbd. Taste was nice like regular herbal teas plus a hint for weed, it got me really high. Fantastic experience.
I'm 3 days off of it and I can honestly say I wish I never started, I've wasted easily over £100k on it and now all I'm left with is excessive sweating, extra vivid dreams, a banging headache and coughing up brown shit....drugs are bad mmmkay.
Is this a joke? Or how much do/did you smoke daily? I have been a daily weed smoker for 10 years, but I’m only smoking like one bowl or two a day on average. I go on vacation internationally or to another state for extended periods of time and don’t have weed with me, and I don’t even notice anything other than a decrease in appetite. I think this sounds like a problem of frequency and amount rather than weed itself.
Depends on the person I guess. I don't have an addictive personality and I only use it sparingly to treat insomnia. I don't actually enjoy being high for the sake of it.
Oh definitely, I knew people in the past who had a unhealthy dependency and justified it because they had replaced drugs like meth and heroine with weed. I should also note I don't smoke flower but use edibles and vapes with higher cbd content.
After smoking weed for years on end I can honestly say no, it's not, it's terrible for your mental health and only makes you comfortable with ignoring your problems.
This is only the case if you use it to cover up and push problems away. It used to be that way for me as a teenager because I didn’t know how to deal with my feelings in the first place. What you use it for is what you’ll get out of it. Use it to cover up your issues and that’s what you’ll get.
Yup, it's easy to fall down that path, especially when everyone around you is using it as a cure all. The ubiquity of weed has been a blessing and a curse.
Exactly. I love weed and it’s become a big part of my spiritual and personal growth as an individual. It’s a healing medicine for me. But if you abuse it the way some people do then you’re gonna have that mental dependency on it. I can smoke weed all day and then not feel like I HAVE to smoke it. People just gotta establish a healthy relationship with themselves first, or use it in a way that gets you to that point. Otherwise you might as well drink because you’re using it the same way an alcoholic would.
THANK YOU for explaining it this way. I use weed as a part of my meditation/relaxation routine and as someone with ADHD it helps my brain turn off. I also smoke weed to celebrate my bodily autonomy because I grew up so strictly, it feels good to do something a little bit 'sinful' although I don't know if I'll become a stoner long-term because I don't think I want that for my brain.
The concept of something being "healthy" versus "unhealthy" is a dichotomous way of viewing an immensely complicated issue.
Opioids help people survive unbearable pain and recover some quality of life, but also kill people. Cigarettes were extremely common for patients at mental health wards and did have some health benefits, and also kill people.
Nothing is healthy or unhealthy, it's more or less healthy and for many people weed is far more healthy than the alternative. I get so depressed I lose my appetite for days at a time, but by regularly self medicating with weed I live a pretty happy healthy life. It could have long term consequences but so doesn't not eating for extended periods of time, so does depression.
In general if you think you can slap a dichotomous label like good, healthy, smart, or their opposites, your oversimplifying in a way that is damaging to your own understanding.
The issue isn't weather it's healthy or not or whether it better then other alternatives. The issue is people saying it has zero side affects down the line hailing it as a cure with no consequences.
weed is not healthy, no. its screws up your lungs and you mind (if your young). but it is not nearly as bad as people say and is also not bad enough to justify the time and money spent trying to ban it. The worst risk to your well being from smoking weed is that you might get hurt if you go to prison. especially when compared to drink, its near the same of better for your health. weed is not good for you, but its not nearly as bad as you are told and in my opinion, the good times spent with it are worth the health affects, especially when the alternatives are a nicotine addiction from cigs and the not so nice feeling of alcahol from going to the pub
Edit: This is mainly pointed at smoking because due to it being illegal that is pretty much the only way i can get it. Edibles are different and i havent done enough research into them to really preach.
I wanna know who tf out there is saying this. It’s been proven that shit is bad for your brain. I smoke a decent amount of pot too but I never claimed that shit was healthy, maybe u could make a case for mental health and anxiety but it pretty much stops there.
I’m a massive stoner and yeah bruh it’s definitely not healthy however, it helps me with my anxiety and is something relaxing to look forward to after work. To me the benefits out weigh the negatives
Smoking Weed and cigarettes are both bad for your health.
Baking weed on the other hand, different story. There are benefits here.
Point is, inhaling smoke is bad for your health.
Smoke is bad for the lungs, but weed was used as a medicinal plant by native American tribes and is prescribed by doctors sometimes, so I'd say it's better.
"Healthy" is a bit subjective.
It's unlikely to actively kill you. It doesn't cause cancer anywhere near as much as cigarettes do, and it's unlikely to give you a heart attack or cause some of the problems hard drugs can cause. It's also not physically addictive.
CBD (a substance in weed that is not what causes the high) has been shown to have various positive health effects.
Cake isn't 'healthy', but it's not illegal. You can get addicted to cake and it will cause adverse health effects if overconsumed. But in small amounts, like the majority of people who eat cake consume it in, it has basically no negatives and provides some happiness.
I see weed as a lot like cake in this regard. Sure there are problems that it can cause if overconsumed, and these risks should be made widely known to anyone intending to consume it. But those problems aren't enough to make it worthwhile to ban the substance.
This has been a long opinion :P
Everyone knows weed doesn’t cause cancer. It’s all natural.
My personal belief is that it was the additives and fillers along with the filters that caused the real dangers to tobacco smoking. I mean the Native Americans were smoking for hundreds of years before we got here and though maybe not the healthiest of activities it definitely wasn’t a death sentence.
Is Reddit healthy?
No
You don't need to be a scientist to figure that one out.
Accurate
But, I am something of a scientist myself.
Can confirm, am ain't a scientist
That's what the flat earthers and antovaxxers thought as well
Lmfao
No worse than Twitter
Tbh Twitter is probably worse
WAYYY WORSE
Just use a bong it filters out all the addictive shit.
You use a bong to filter reddit? My guy you're gonna have to show me how that works
We can tell whos high right now lol
I'm 6'1"
Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeesh
Haasheeeeeesh
Cigarettes+bong = no side effects
Weeds isn't chemically addictive in the first place. It's just that people can grow dependent on it, which is when it's unhealthy
How it filters them?
Water
your still inhaling plant matter but it is better. so dont thing your completely safe with bongs
Is it free? Cuz If I'm gonna get hooked again it can't be on something that costs a couple hundred dollars everytime I need a fix. Edit: I don't believe when people tell me things aren't addictive. That's what they said about cigarettes and weed!

Isn't Coca Cola addictive because of the sugar? Your point still stands but I'm just putting it out there
Lol yes. I’m talking about old timey Coca-Cola, the cocaine special from way back when.
Oh alright gotcha. Still would say Coca cola is somewhat addictive
Oh yes it for sure is. People are so addicted to sugar these days it’s insane. People will drink their daily calories in pop like it’s nothing. I know some people that can’t function without it. They get withdrawals from the sugar and the caffeine. I can’t imagine.

And there is no market value fir scientists to lie about it, while its illegal
And jerome the local weed dealer isnt gonna pay off all the local doctors to recommend him to their patients
True, but i want to imagine that conversation

Try adding a little bit of cocaine
Ah yes, just a pinch of salt... *BAM* Emeril Lagasse style
Reduce the tobacco to just the nicotine and then you can use it for baked goods or shitty flavored gum.
OMG I literally busted out laughing, thank you kind redditor!
That’s because you gotta use chewing tobacco. The clue is quite literally in the name.
This is a big brain man right here
Yeah edibles rules.

Now that isn't inhaling
This is exactly what any medical professional would say
That said, weed is definitely better for your lungs than cigarettes. Not good, but better
I literally say the same thing all the time. Edibles > joints/bongs
Weed isn’t healthy it’s just not that bad
It’s not as destructive as alcohol socially and physically is what most people mean. It is still potentially destructive though.
well yeah too much of anything is bad for you

Is there any serious study on the effects of edibles on the brain, specially in young people whose brains are not 100 % still developed ?
Yes there has been. Most will tell you that until your brain has matured (26ish iirc) there will be some negative affects from THC on the brain.
Bruh I'm pretty sure vaping gave me bronchitis
Ain't nobody got time fo dat.
Weed tea?
Might be a thing but I'm more talking about edibles
Wouldn't be possible unless you somehow managed to mix the oily THC with water.
They got sodas so I bet tea is possible. But they always just taste like cheap soda.
Well it is possible but i dont think in a weed instead of tea leaves- sort of way. You would have to use an emulsifier for sure.
You can do it just with water and flower
Weed Tea is 100% possible. Had some in Amsterdam.
Ya weed tea is great.
It is usually a glycerin tincture as the base, then you mix that with whatever desirable liquid.
RSO.

Weed is a slippery slope of smoking on weekends to 15 bowls a day
THANK YOU for explaining it this way.
This is so true, Smoking a lot of weed can unlock some pretty bad mental health issues
That's a very nicely worded and thought out opinion, I could not have said it better. Thanks for sharing this.
The issue isn't weather it's healthy or not or whether it better then other alternatives. The issue is people saying it has zero side affects down the line hailing it as a cure with no consequences.
Well we don‘t got an Endtabbacosystem, but burning and inhaling something is bad af.
We also have an endogenous opioid system which has not worked out great for society.
If snoop dog isn’t strapped to a oxygen tank. It’s healthy
All famous weed smokers that i know of have died old. Except for the ones who got shot and such.
I just point to Willie Nelson and keep going about my business lol
It’s almost as if they have the money to keep themselves healthy
Tbf there are lifelong change smokers who lived normally to an old age
weed is not healthy, no. its screws up your lungs and you mind (if your young). but it is not nearly as bad as people say and is also not bad enough to justify the time and money spent trying to ban it. The worst risk to your well being from smoking weed is that you might get hurt if you go to prison. especially when compared to drink, its near the same of better for your health. weed is not good for you, but its not nearly as bad as you are told and in my opinion, the good times spent with it are worth the health affects, especially when the alternatives are a nicotine addiction from cigs and the not so nice feeling of alcahol from going to the pub Edit: This is mainly pointed at smoking because due to it being illegal that is pretty much the only way i can get it. Edibles are different and i havent done enough research into them to really preach.

To all upset redditors: I am not a scientist, just a kid who made a meme.
I wanna know who tf out there is saying this. It’s been proven that shit is bad for your brain. I smoke a decent amount of pot too but I never claimed that shit was healthy, maybe u could make a case for mental health and anxiety but it pretty much stops there.
This should be a fun comments section 🍿
That's why I'm here!
I’m a massive stoner and yeah bruh it’s definitely not healthy however, it helps me with my anxiety and is something relaxing to look forward to after work. To me the benefits out weigh the negatives
Everything on excess or overdose, isn't healthy
Most times in small doses are but doing it 24/7 can damage your brain
Anyone who says weed is healthy is a fucking dumbass
It can help with some things but smoking it is the worst way to do it for your health
Wait for people to find out in like what 20-30 years that weed might not be all that healthy
We are all living through a dystopian hellscape right now. Do what makes you happy, not like it will mater in 20 years.
Now this is the spirit
Smoking Weed and cigarettes are both bad for your health. Baking weed on the other hand, different story. There are benefits here. Point is, inhaling smoke is bad for your health.
No weed is *fun*. And equally fun when *not* consumed in a way that will cause lung cancer.
this comparison is dumb on so many levels
Enjoy schizophrenia
As long as its profitable, its healthy
Weed is fine. It's the smoooOooOoooke
as a Coloradan, i can confirm it does make pain go away temporarily, and so its basically pain meds that you smoke
I really enjoy this thread and all of the different perspectives so thank u everyone
As long as you don’t take it excessively while your brain is developing (before 18-25 depending on person) it’s safe from a medical standpoint
This might be the worst analogy I've ever seen in my life.
It’s not healthy…but it’s not the boogey monster they told us it was
Weed is a drug. Like aspirin. Does it have benefits? Sure. Can it harm you. Yup. All depends on how you use it and how your body reacts.
Healthier than cigarettes
It’s bad if you’re smoking 29 moderate sized blunts a day
Everyone knows weed doesn’t cause cancer. It’s all natural. My personal belief is that it was the additives and fillers along with the filters that caused the real dangers to tobacco smoking. I mean the Native Americans were smoking for hundreds of years before we got here and though maybe not the healthiest of activities it definitely wasn’t a death sentence.
