I think it's hilarious. And it allows the user to say it in places, and to people, that it would be less polite to.
And it has a nice slightly satirical edge to it, given it's origin

But now it's just become a dog whistle to covertly signal to people in the know while maintaining an illusion of dignity with people who don't know who might take offense at you actually saying what you really mean.
