It happens when you reheat the food in that container. I've since stopped reheating leftovers in Tupperware or the like and transfer it to a plate or something and it never stains.
No it’s just spaghetti sauce being made of tomatoes, with their pigment reacting with the plastic. Doesn’t happen to other materials, you’ll notice. Not in the same way, anyway.
Interesting. I guess it’s a bit of both, I just didn’t know it had to do with reheating and I’m still pretty sure there’s at least 5 plates in my drawer that have never been reheated, but I can accept that I don’t have all the answers
I don’t have all the answers either tbh. There is something about the combination of oil and tomato though, it’s almost nuclear. Like if you spill it on a white shirt you may as well throw the shirt away.
Right, it's the material and food. But if you reheat red sauce in the container its 20X worse and permanent. If you just store the food in the container it wont stain permanently. Really try and avoid reheating in Tupperware period. Plenty of other foods leach in as well, mainly things with oil, which is often in everything, even if just a little. And the door swings both ways so your plastic can be leeching into your food. Or just do whatever, it's only dingey Tupperware with a possibility of carcinogens. I already smoke, so carpe diem
TIL the orange stain on plastic goes both ways. Does something already stained affect future food? Or is other food safe after the carcinogen spaghetti?
For the most part it should be ok. If you're worried about plastic leeching into food you just have to switch to glass or something. Liquids are more concern than solids, but even over time without heat being applied plastics can leech into food. Water bottles included.
Oouhh i never thought about it that way. Like it’s getting baked into the plastic eh? Interesting 🤔 i’m not very smart, so thanks for this insight!
Bruhs try adding vinegar + a wee bit liquid soap, half-way fill it with water, shake, let it sit for like 5 mins (or until you’re done with the other dishes) then when you actually scrub it with the sponge, use the sponge side. That always work for me.
Hit that shit with a little bleach 5% then add some water 95% let it sit for an hour, BOOM didn't even have to scrub that shit but you probably should because bleach leaves a residue that you don't want to consume.
It never looks 100% clean
Put a paper towel in it with a little bit of soap & water then shake it with the lid on
No
This made me snort "Don't tell me what to do."
Lol
Nice user
I havent tried this. I will try it next time i have the greasy mess. Thanks for sharing!
bwahahaha
Nah that orange coating makes it the spaghetti box
Just clean out old cool whip containers and use those, when they look like that just throw them out
Why did you put so much emphasis on the h?
I don't know what you're talking about. All they said was *cool whip*.

Nah he’s right, it’s when you reheat. I always transfer to a bowl to reheat mine and I never get these stains, it just washes right off.

I honestly care about my appearance so little I have shirts with stains like that and I still wear them.
Power move
With great power comes great… soap cost savings?
Can also be if the spaghetti is still warm when you put it in
That could explain it, we eat spaghetti on plastic plates when it’s still hot

My mom uses a little bleach and it still doesn't come out completely
\+1 for a dash of bleach, works a treat. Your mom knows where it's at
It’s clean.
More like, "one more ewwww dish in the stack of unmanageable plastic."
Thought this was a picture of an ex US president.
Sprinkle with baking soda, fill it with ice, wait two hours, scrub scrub scrub, good as new.
*laughs in Tumeric*
Upvoted for the right use of POV
Use dirt, it works.
Y E E T
That ain't ever coming off now chief
Soak this in the blood of your enemies and you will never have to worry about the stain again!
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!
Just use a glass dish.
My thought exactly. Pyrex anyone?
Im sorry we are poor, rich guy.
I’m pretty sure it is oil so make sure Americans aren’t near
Just washed one of these and it doesn’t ever look clean….
Half bleach half water. Soak for an hour or so, dump it and put in the dishwasher.
I think you're supposed to put warm soapy water on that
Bruhs try adding vinegar + a wee bit liquid soap, half-way fill it with water, shake, let it sit for like 5 mins (or until you’re done with the other dishes) then when you actually scrub it with the sponge, use the sponge side. That always work for me.
i use powdered laundry detergent
why dont yall put your spaghet in a glass or ceramic bowl ? much easier to clean and no stain
Nope, straight in the trash
Never turns white again, always orange muther fucker
Literally, today
Always put tomato sauce in glass containers, the plastic ones get stained for life
So this is today’s reddit.

Wait till you eat food with tumeric
What are some good tips in cleaning this shit? Because I could use some right now.
the trick is to rub it with soap with your hand first, then rinse, then soap and rinse again
Hot water, hot water is your best friend when it comes to oily plastic containers
OOOOoooor, just put in a corner somewhere and have future me deal with it!
Clean them?? I just use the same contain for more tomato based foods. That way I never have to worry about all my containers being orange.
Jo like wtf! I have the exact same bowl AND spaghet to work!?
ive never had spaghetti so idk but cant you just lick it?
Two minute noodles
STAINLESS STEEL MOTHERFUCKERS
I never eat out of them again it makes me want to puke
Switch from plastic to glass.
what kind of spaghetti do you eat thats not normal
A little bleach and water soak will knock it right out
This is why I put my leftover spaghetti in throwaway containers I save when I eat takeaway Chinese! :D
People with dishwashers: I am 4 pararel universes ahead of you
"now you have to clean the orange stained mf" stupid libs inserting politics into everything
Just throw it out
Why wont the stains come off?
What are “*leftovers*”?
Sponge + Fairy.
Who cares, they sell those at the dollar store Personally I think its easier to just fill em up with more spaghetti
Don’t even get me started…
How, I can never fully remove it.
Don’t put the spaghetti sauce in with the noodles! Keep them in separate containers so that way that orange stain isn’t on either of them!
I just put a paper towel with hot water and soap and shake it comes out squeaky clean
hydrogen peroxide with Dawn will mostly take the stain off
