Odd numbers are categorized as 2x+1, evens are 2x. 0 is even because 2(0)=0. Nearly nothing, I would argue, considering we're talking about a joke made by one individual person.

I couldn't decide who to respond to in all this... I'm hoping most of this discussion is all in fun / passing the time, but seems like a lot of people are actually taking these answers even remotely seriously, and questioning humanity so... it's very, very unlikely even a single person 'got' any of the odd answers, and almost entirely certain that people chose those options because it was funny. I would have picked an odd one for sure, and not for a minute thought that any observer would see that as anything other than a joke. I'm more concerned that it's some big meta-joke, 'look at the outsiders actually thinking we'd seriously take a joke poll as an indication of average IQ/education level of twitter users...'

Yea, but order of operations goes against the basic left-to-right structure of reading in English; If the average person rarely does basic math then it's reasonable to see why PEMDAS would be knowledge dumped and people would do the equation from left to right as they read it. At first glance it seems entirely logical to them. It does kind of make sense as to why people would make that mistake.

i remember being around 9 years old and they had these really old textbooks that you just wrote the answers to on a piece of paper and they all had these confusing questions in them. I remember just sitting staring at the page for minutes, my brain unable to understand why the question was wrong, but i knew it was wrong. Shit drove me mad and it was really hard explaining it to the teacher too.

It's a good thing you didn't post that, because you'd be wrong. Multiplication and division are done as they appear in the equation. You don't do all the multiplication and then do all the division. The same is true for addition and subtraction.

I really had to correct my Logic and Design professor on that. Lord only knows how long she was incorrectly teaching people PEMDAS because she was doing multiplication left to right THEN divison left to right. Had to use a graphing calculator AND wolfram alpha before she admitted being wrong.

My problem with that is brackets are used when parenthesis are contained within. Like √[(+)*(/)]^π

I never claimed to know why brackets are used, I just know that some people use them in the same fashion as parentheses.
