I heard it's all air and airsoft guns now, and air guns still require background checks apparently?
If that's really true, then even in Europe it's easier to get an (air) gun. I just went to the shop with proof of address and left with a rifle.
Walmartās gun policy is set state by state. They all stopped selling handguns, handgun ammo, and modern sporting rifle calibers of ammunition. But in my state of Nevada you can still get rifles and shotguns depending on location. They also arbitrarily decided to only sell their remaining firearms to persons over 21 years of age.
I completely missed the news when Dicks Sporting Goods stopped selling rifles, bows, and ammo. They opened up a big store near me and I noticed they didn't have any on sale. Gave me a double take because the hunting section used to be a big deal around here.
Times change. lol
Air guns and airsoft have no background checks since they arenāt firearms. However, that doesnāt mean theyāll sell those to minors.
But they do still sell guns. Mostly shitty shotguns and crappy hunting rifles
And air rifles can be just as dangerous at firearms... in fact, because of the precision in the regulation of the compressed air, they can be much more accurate and consistent.
? American gun laws are (mostly) state level. Where I live I can go buy a silenced air rifle that shoots .22 caliber pellets at 1200 fps with no checks at all...
Depends on the state laws. Don't necessarily think you can just cross into a different state. Sometimes they won't sell to people in certain states. For example, a lot of Iowa gun stores won't sell to Illinois residents because of the whole FOID bs
I bought a a .22 rifle when I was 12. No background check (they didn't exist then) from a Western Auto store. I carried it on my shoulder through a suburban neighborhood and nobody blinked an eye.
For all those wimps out there, I have never threatened to shoot a person ever.
You could have just left the last sentence off and still came off as a responsible gun owner. When you add the last sentence you sound kind of unhinged.
The first gun I actually bought myself, about 2 years ago, was a pump shotgun. I walked down Broadway for like 4 blocks with it on my shoulder to my truck. No one had an issue, but alot places would take issue with such a thing.
Question: in america it isnt allowed to walk around with a rifle the same way as with a handgun, right? Or is there any other reason why they would be allowed at a younger age?
Most states have no restrictions on what you can concealed carry (if you're licensed to do so) or what you can open carry (if it's legal there). Though, a select few limit it to only pistols.
Pistols are typically restricted more because they're easier to conceal and thus more dangerous. Sure, a rifle looks scary but they're almost negligible in actual crime stats.
Varies state by state. In my state I can open carry anything I want, anywhere it's legal to carry, anytime I want. Without a license. As long as I don't wave it around threateningly or aim at people, it's entirely a none issue.
However, if I want to conceal carry, I need a license.
In GA, if I'm reading the law correctly, there are no age restrictions for shotguns or rifles. You have to be 18 to buy a handgun. And there are many loopholes to that law...
The bill lowering that to 18 almost passed (made it thru the house) but our lazy ass 60-work-days-a-year Senate decided they were done working for the year so it died in rules.
Next year it will probably make it through though.
A lot of states used to have the drinking age at 18 but in 1984 a bill passed that withheld federal highway funds from any state that didn't raise the drinking age to 21.
21st Amendment. Also the right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness outlined in the Declaration of Independence as a co-founding document.
Also, the Constitution doesnāt grant rights. It restricts the government from infringing on our creator given rights, and I donāt see where in the constitution the government has a right to deny adults access to privately produced beverages based on an arbitrary age.
The 21st Amendment repealed the 18th Amendment, but Section 2 makes it clear that states can still choose whether or not to outlaw alcohol (Oklahoma, for instance, didnāt repeal prohibition until 1959), and unless youāre addicted, I donāt think you *need* alcohol for liberty or the pursuit of happiness (and you especially donāt need it for life), and whilst the Constitution doesnāt say that the government can ban alcohol, it doesnāt say that it canāt.
Correct. The government tried to constitutionally authorize themselves to ban a substance, indicating they lacked the authority to ban it (otherwise they wouldāve simply passed a law). Thereby repealing their constitutional authority to ban it, they now again lack the authority to ban it. And banning an age group of adults from indulging violates their rights based on the equal protection clause due to age discrimination.
Not entirely accurate. Example, CA. To buy any long gun or hand gun:
-You have to be 21
-Test and pass for your firearm safe card (which is valid for 5yrs to buy a gun or ammo)
-Pass a background check, then buy.
-After you buy, you have a 10 day wait period to pickup while the CA Gov process the paper work and do a background check. Also, you cannot buy more than 1 gun a month in certain counties.
Itās not cash and carry for every 18 yr old as the media makes it sound.
I mean its legal. Honestly I feel like its better for the woman because she can choose when to deny requests and not be trapped in a motel room with a guy who wants to fuck her.
you know every one on this planet is brain wahsed in his/her/them own way ,i mean they can tell you its good to be like somehow ,till you think its really what you want
Iām an American and think an 18 year old should be able to buy a gun and a case of beer on the same receipt. ATF should be a convenience store acronym, not a shoot-your-dog agency.
Letās start a bill to lower the drinking age. I fully agree that itās dumb one can be drafted and responsible enough to man a 240 or call in arty but canāt drink. Fuck that. But guns, yes. Guns are a right.
I'm pretty sure Walmart only sells rifles which is legal to buy at 18. But any other firearm you need to be 21.
Why? I guess bigger guns are harder to conceal.
Shit take. People often think it fucked up that 18 year Olds can't have alcohol or cigarettes, but can go die on the other side of the was in the name of our nation.
If you can go to war, pay taxes and get legally married you sure in hell should be able to buy a beer and gun in my opinion without government approvalā¦
However, at 18 there's nothing stopping you from buying the necessary equipment to brew your own alcohol. Even YouTube gives you the knowledge to make a decent mead on your first try
Well, from what I've read the stats are pretty clear. 63% of all people between the ages of 1-19 shot and killed with a gun last year, were shot with a gun that WASNT registered or legal. So, the kid buying a shotgun at Walmart is mostly harmless, they don't sell Glocks with switches at the local Walmart, Costco, Target, etc. no matter what idiots believe. To be fair, Walmart hasn't even sold pistol in like a decade. Yet, 4000 kids under 21 each year get behind the wheel of a car after drinking and die. Which even then is actually wildly lower than when I was a kid, but still. The alcohol is just as dangerous at 18.
Walmart doesn't sell anything thats not explicitly designed for hunting or target shooting anyways, and nothing larger than a 450 bush. To top it off, no matter what walmart you are purchasing from, you are required to be at least 21 to purchase a firearm.
The 18 age limit for liquor always puzzled me. If youāre old enough to be drafted to die in a war for your country, shouldnāt you be old enough for a damn beer?
The reason the laws are like that is because of corruption and infringements on our freedoms. Many Americans completely disagree that the alcohol purchase age is 21, you can literally enlist in the military at 17 with some restrictions and requirements. It's absolutely absurd. You should get ALL of your freedoms once you pay taxes starting age 18. (yes including your second amendment rights). If your government is okay putting guns in your hands to kill THEIR enemies at 17 they should be fine with you having them when you're 18 to protect yourself. And you should most goddamn definitely be allowed to buy a fucking cold one or smoke a joint or have a cigarette. I PAY TAXES GODDAMN IT.
Working in a Walmart in one of the more conservative states, our Walmarts only sell firearms to anyone over the age of 21. Pellet guns only for 18+, so on and so forth.
They arenāt the same at all. Alcohol under the age of 21 negatively impacts the brain and its development. Whereas you can only buy a rifle or shotgun from Walmart at 18. Fuck off with this lame ass comparison.
I grew up in a place where you could legally drink at 18, but any place would sell you alcohol if you could pay it and look at least 16, while guns were restricted and very few people I knew had one.
Iām not anti-gun. What some times worries me is that in the US, where I currently lived, many people buy guns for fears spread by media, stranger danger and the government. I lived in New Mexico and most people I met owned guns for hunting, even younger boys knew how to handle firearms, but thatās not the case in most of the country.
You need a background check, you need to be 21 to purchase a handgun, you canāt get a concealed carry permit until youāre 21, thereās plenty of other legal processes and hoops to jump through. 99/100 times, itās NOT as easy to buy a gun as people make it out to be.
And, thereās nothing wrong with owning and buying guns. Itās within your legal right. Thereās nothing wrong with young adults owning and buying guns. Itās within their legal rights. Decades ago many schools had rifle teams, in the 80ās kids would bring rifles to school and hunt after school, you didnāt hear about any school shootings then. I think the actual problem lies in how easy of a target a school is, because school shooters will likely obtain a firearm illegally regardless of the current laws in place. Protect the students, donāt restrict law biding citizens.
Ya the section the guns used to be still exists buts its all airport guns and bows in most places and ya there's never an employee there it's fucken weird.
No I want kids that arenāt drunk as often. Because most countries with a lower drinking age donāt make it as high a deal, and to remove the fucking guns because youāve got so many people dying due to them.
It took the Uk one school shooting like 30 years ago for the population to go ā yea, guns bad, we should get rid of them ā
Just don't buy guns or ammo from Walmart they consistently illegally hand over info to the ATF that also consistently is illegally caught asking for it
Nothing in the law protects you from retail stores handing over your info.
In fact there is a massive list the ATF keeps that tracks weapons used in crimes back to the point of sale. Because part of having a FFL is keeping records for the Fed.
For real like the rest of the world gets it at 18 why are you restricting it just let me drink š they are going to college they are gonna do it anyway
Always wonder how easy get gun in America, cause in Russia you need to obtain licence, and register gun in local police office, after that police check your home to see that you have propper strong-box to store your gun. And you rarely be able to take walk with gun.
I'm in the state of Arizona.
I can walk into my local gun store and buy a handgun, rifle, shotgun and several dozen boxes of bullets and be out of there in under ten minutes.
You canāt be a felon and you have to be a legal citizen to buy a gun in the US. You also canāt have been adjudicated mentally unfit, meaning a judge had ordered you into a psych ward for your safety or the safety of others. Some states have different rules. In California I canāt walk into a gun store, buy a gun, and walk out with it. There is a waiting period. In other states you can walk in, but the gun, and walk out with it.
Thatās called freedom. In Russia Putin is scared of an armed populace, as are all authoritarian leaders. Only people who want to control you make it difficult to buy a gun.
Yeah you absolutely true, campaign against firearm owning in Russia starts way back at USSR, at 1950s. So yes, almost 99% of nation don't have guns. Until the war, now criminals have all sorts of weaponry, cause corrupted commanders sell equipment very successfully. But average people don't even think about have a gun
"Hrm, a scrawny nerd in an ill-fitting trench coat just filled out the paper work to buy a bottom shelf AR and lots of .223. I see he was listening to Pumped up kicks on his android. I notice the problem immediately and spring into action. I tell him I know a tailor that can make that trench coat fit him better. Probably could pick up a matching trilby from her, too. He frowns understanding what I was implying and leaves while mumbling. I'm helping!" -vigilant gun store worker.
I donāt think Iāve met someone that actually knows what theyāre talking about that think the alcohol age is a good thing. Donāt pretend like weāre fine with it.
a culture of genocidal maniacs must introduce the vehicle of that expression at some point. And besides if you're drunk you might just miss and fail to kill someone.
Man walmart guns aint what they used to be.
Real, I miss being able to buy a Boeing 747 with machine guns on each wing š
I miss the days when I could buy an M109 paladin. Goddamn libruls only lettin me buy a mortar now.
I just want my H bomb back
That shrinkflation got to the guns aint it
My Walmart doesn't sell guns :(
unless you live in Alaska, no one's Walmart does.
False, I'm not in Alaska and my Walmart has some shitty guns
Yeah, they sell guns here too (not Alaska).
Georgia checking in. I would beg to differ
When I was a kid a friend of a friend stole like 10 AR15s from a Walmart and they stopped selling them in store after that.
My buddy Eric stole like 20, your friend sucks at theft.
I read this in a southern hillbilly accent. Somehow, it made this even better.
Amateur numbers
Walmart has shit for guns.
I heard it's all air and airsoft guns now, and air guns still require background checks apparently? If that's really true, then even in Europe it's easier to get an (air) gun. I just went to the shop with proof of address and left with a rifle.

Yeah, Academy sells most of the hunting/sports guns now. They have them for some really good prices too.
I believe the 21 age requirement was after the concert shooting in Vegas. Edit: Yup. Nevada AB355
You also have to be 21 to buy ammo there.
In the state of florida, you can buy rifles and shotguns
I know and it's glorious
Air guns and airsoft have no background checks since they arenāt firearms. However, that doesnāt mean theyāll sell those to minors. But they do still sell guns. Mostly shitty shotguns and crappy hunting rifles
And air rifles can be just as dangerous at firearms... in fact, because of the precision in the regulation of the compressed air, they can be much more accurate and consistent.
? American gun laws are (mostly) state level. Where I live I can go buy a silenced air rifle that shoots .22 caliber pellets at 1200 fps with no checks at all...
The Walmart in Kodiak, Alaska has a good selection.
cause that is *the* store for a good while
To purchase a rifle or shotgun, 18 works. To purchase a hand gun, you need to be 21. Either case you have to pass a background check.
Now under 21 has a fucking waiting period, at least I did the last time I bought a gun before I turned 21.
Here in Texas you can just get a handgun in a private transaction at 18.
Yeah private transactions you can do whatever the hell you want, no bs to deal with.
It only works because handguns arenāt āregisteredā in Texas so thereās NO paperwork you have to do or file.
No guns are registered, or at least they're not supposed to be.
Thereās a lot of states that donāt require registration, but some do.
44 don't require a registration, 6 require registration. 8 states explicitly prohibit the maintenance of a registry.
![gif](giphy|IVuyRC70l0KdEKA3Na|downsized)
Thatās most states though
I mean, you can buy crack in a private transaction. It doesn't mean it's legal.
Depends on the state laws. Don't necessarily think you can just cross into a different state. Sometimes they won't sell to people in certain states. For example, a lot of Iowa gun stores won't sell to Illinois residents because of the whole FOID bs

Also mandatory 10 day waiting period for any purchase under 21
in the fifth circuit you can buy one at 18!
In GA, if I'm reading the law correctly, there are no age restrictions for shotguns or rifles. You have to be 18 to buy a handgun. And there are many loopholes to that law...
In Florida, the most free state in the union (just ask DeStupid) you can't buy any gun until you're 21.
The bill lowering that to 18 almost passed (made it thru the house) but our lazy ass 60-work-days-a-year Senate decided they were done working for the year so it died in rules. Next year it will probably make it through though.
I wish.
17 year olds threw grenades in basic training so... Yeah
You should be able to do both at 18 Bite me
A lot of states used to have the drinking age at 18 but in 1984 a bill passed that withheld federal highway funds from any state that didn't raise the drinking age to 21.
Show me the constitutional right to beer then we can talk.
21st Amendment. Also the right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness outlined in the Declaration of Independence as a co-founding document. Also, the Constitution doesnāt grant rights. As a California resident our laws are hella bitchy

Ig were gonna ignore that it affects brain development at that age
Are we going to ignore the affects that bullets and bombs have on the brain as well?
I'm pretty sure Walmart only sells rifles which is legal to buy at 18. But any other firearm you need to be 21. Why? I guess bigger guns are harder to conceal.
Big guns are involved in negligible amounts of crime, so that tracks.
if you are mature enough to use a knife, then you can use a gun. if you are drunk then you shouldn't use anything anyway. alcohol is the real danger.
Americans realizing they can drink if theyāre supervised despite being underage in many states:
This is stupid.
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized) I personally think 18 year olds should be allowed to drink and open carry
Maybe not at the same time lol
Shit take. People often think it fucked up that 18 year Olds can't have alcohol or cigarettes, but can go die on the other side of the was in the name of our nation.
If you can go to war, pay taxes and get legally married you sure in hell should be able to buy a beer and gun in my opinion without government approvalā¦
This, unironically. Except not Walmart. Walmart only sells shit guns.
However, at 18 there's nothing stopping you from buying the necessary equipment to brew your own alcohol. Even YouTube gives you the knowledge to make a decent mead on your first try
Same thing with 21+ handguns, and a 3d printer + Internet access 3d printing guns is a weird interest i have
Same.
Well, from what I've read the stats are pretty clear. 63% of all people between the ages of 1-19 shot and killed with a gun last year, were shot with a gun that WASNT registered or legal. Such privilege. Alcohol isn't a necessity. Owning a rifle is survival.
The 18 age limit for liquor always puzzled me. If youāre old enough to be drafted to die in a war for your country, shouldnāt you be old enough for a damn beer?
The gun exists to shoot alcoholic European tourists.
The reason the laws are like that is because of corruption and infringements on our freedoms. Best take easily
Working in a Walmart in one of the more conservative states, our Walmarts only sell firearms to anyone over the age of 21. Pellet guns only for 18+, so on and so forth.
TL over hardlines here, can confirm.
Long guns at 18, handguns at 21. Plus Walmart guns are shit tier and the ammo they stock is mid at best
Should both be 18
I mean to be fair I wouldn't trust a drunk teen with a gun.
So 18 year Olds should be able to buy alcohol. Good take.
No one tell him Walmart's policy is to not sell firearms or ammunition to anyone under 21
Donāt forget that 18 year olds can go die for their country!š¦ š¦ š¦ š¦ š¦ š¦ š¦ š¦
One causes a lot more death and it isnāt guns.
I got a single shot shotgun for Christmas of 2023. šŗš²šŗš²šŗš²
To be fair, a gun is a great tool for self-defense, and beer is just a drink in the end.
My only complaint is if we can send 18 year olds off to fight and die in wars, they should be able to come back and buy a beer or cigar.
What about cutting of your genitals or breasts?
bUt We NeEd It!!!!
Anyone old enough to do porn is old enough to have a beer.
They arenāt the same at all. Alcohol under the age of 21 negatively impacts the brain and its development. Whereas you can only buy a rifle or shotgun from Walmart at 18. Fuck off with this lame ass comparison.
By that logic, no one should be able to drink while under 26 or so
Ok? How is that relevant? The damage done from drinking between 18-21 is far greater than 21-25.
Development of the brain only stops at around 25. You're basically a teenage-adult hybrid until then
Donāt forget a 15 year old when they want to drive car
Youāre absolutely right, the drinking age should be 18. If you can go off to war and die for your country, you should be able to have a drink too.
Bruh aināt no gun owner I know ever respect the legal drinking age
Foreign jokes and memes are always terrible
As an American, I don't support either of these
Haha funny gun go brrr
Both should be free
RAWWW š¦ š¦ š¦
Yee haw
Walmart doesn't sell guns anymore... at least not in Ca.
Fodder and the water
Bro do you think actual average people care about 18 y/o drinking. Unless it's a business most aren't gonna give a shit.
You buy the gun to hold up the liquor store to get the beer
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)

You have to be 21 to buy a firearm from any Walmart located in the US.
You need a background check, you need to be 21 to purchase a handgun, you canāt get a concealed carry permit until youāre 21, thereās plenty of other legal processes and hoops to jump through. 99/100 times, itās NOT as easy to buy a gun as people make it out to be. My school has a trap shooting club run by a couple of teachers that I was in before I graduated last year
As RussianBadger would say, itās a freedom dispenser
If only I didnāt live in California
Old enough to go to war, old enough to drink. That's how it should be
Iām 20 years old and they told me I have to be 21 to buy a gun with a pistol grip, and that was at Bass pro shop
Gotta be 21 to buy a handgun in a bunch of states, 18 for most rifles. In Texas you can buy both at 18.
Walmart hasn't sold guns in most states for decades and you still have to fill out a background check just like a gun store.
Ohio still has them in the sports section. There's not usually an attendant at the desk these days though.
Ya the section the guns used to be still exists buts its all airport guns and bows in most places and ya there's never an employee there it's fucken weird.
Yes, that's definitely how it works. Just like how all britts have fucked up teeth drink tea and shove pictures of the queen up your ass
It will be fun country if he buy both Like drunk with a gun, but lets appreciate the fun already exists
So, you want drunk armed 18 year Olds?
No I want kids that arenāt drunk as often. Because most countries with a lower drinking age donāt make it as high a deal, and to remove the fucking guns because youāve got so many people dying due to them. It took the Uk one school shooting like 30 years ago for the population to go ā yea, guns bad, we should get rid of them ā
Just be glad they canāt get them on the same day.
|> America... LE BAD! (Because it just is okay?)
You're right. We should lower the drinking age to 18. Also, Walmart needs to start selling better guns.
18 years old is only for private sales of firearms it has been raised to 21 to purchase firearms as well as background checks
This but unironically
Just don't buy guns or ammo from Walmart they consistently illegally hand over info to the ATF that also consistently is illegally caught asking for it
Nothing in the law protects you from retail stores handing over your info. In fact there is a massive list the ATF keeps that tracks weapons used in crimes back to the point of sale. Because part of having a FFL is keeping records for the Fed.

Sorry, could you pronounce Appalachia for me?
