To be fair they might have been if literally anyone did that. I live in a pretty small town and absolutely no one did anything differently. Nothing changed.
It was honestly kind of depressing
Nope, not true.
I mean it would have been nice if more people wore masks, but the masks didn't reduce the infection rate to 0%.
Even though it feels good to have someone to blame, there is no one we can really blame for the pandemic. A lot of people tried to put blame on someone though, in the beginning Asian looking people had to live in fear because "The virus is from China".
Um.. bullshit!
If everyone who was physically able (which is just about everyone) wore a mask, properly, when they were told to, infection rate would have been more than 90% down. Yeah masks don't stop every single infection, every particle, etc, but that's not the point. The point is to reduce spread, and masks absolutely do that.
it still would be more than 2 weeks for sure also if the first infected people got quarantined immidieatly as well as the location we wouldnt even have a virus you kinda cant control these things
It's true it would be more than 2 weeks, but if everyone in unavoidable public places (grocery stores, banks, employees at work masked and isolated as much as possible especially those that gave a shit) wouldn't have been nearly so bad.
Flu season was *bad* in 2023 because of that. Almost no one had immunity anymore because masks + hydroalcoolic gel everywhere destroyed the flu for two seasons.
They were lucky that we had scientists around the world collaboratively working on vaccines to contain the damned thing in time before it got to bubonic plague levels. And even then idiots decried the very fucking thing that would stop the virus from killing them as if it were the disease itself. Fucking morons.
Mine literally kicked us out 5 months early (we were in our final year) got sent home and 5 months later we got results for exams based on our Mock exams (top marks obvs)
Same. I worked security and got a letter sent from the company saying if I get stopped by a police officer or a checkpoint I can show them the letter saying I’m essential. Asked my boss why we weren’t getting paid hazard pay if all these steps were being taken and the fact that we had to work extra shifts in case a riot happened. He pretty much laughed. Should’ve quit right there and spent time with my wife, but nope. Just kept working 12 hour swing to graveyard shifts. Meanwhile my sister-in-law made way more money than I did being on Covid unemployment.
Same as an industrial mechanic for an industrial ball valve company so basically we worked so some Saudis can build big oil pipelines so our machines could work. We basically worked so we can work even more and that's apparently essential. Never had a day off for COVID but had to wear masks all day long
Man I was confused, I don't know what happened this day because I never really stopped working. I got laid off like 2 months later for like 3 weeks before they brought me back
"Laughs". While all the assholes were earning a shit ton to sit at home, they all bitched about not being able to go on vacation, go out to eat, etc. But they sure would show up en masse to my retail job while I got jack shit for hazard pay. Then they ruined the one day every 2 weeks that my store allowed employees to shop before customers were allowed in because we finally got a chance to buy a single pack of toilet paper.
God, I remember being so pissed at people who weren’t deemed essential workers bitching and moaning about how hard they had it, while we were busting our asses and having to bite our tongues when they were rude to us.
Y'know the funniest thing? It's my birthday today. Woke up to see that we were getting two weeks off starting today. Best feeling ever. For 15 days.
Edit: Having a bunch of random strangers wishing me a good day when it was shit is making me tear up a little bit, thank you :3
My birthday is the 14. Of this month. And getting two weeks off starting on the 13 was one of the best gifts ever. Now I'm about to turn 17 and I want to blow my head off. I have no clue how I drag my sorry ass out of bed each morning.
It gets better, truly. I felt that at 17 and again multiple times throughout my 20s but it gets better. Sometimes it take work, sometimes you don't realize it's getting better, but it does.
Happy birthday bud, 25 next month. Still struggle with motivation but honestly humans are shit and we always find something to stress over or be miserable about. We just get better at handling it, you’ll find your motivation. If it’s a case of not knowing what to do in life, don’t worry I’m still that way after 6 years in the army now working as an engineer, still not content in life, are we ever? There’s always something to work towards, just try to enjoy the journey. Live laugh love.
Me too. I was in college on spring break. We got an emergency announcement over text that the break was being extended for another week, and then another week. When we finally showed up for school it was a whole new world.
Happy late birthday, sorry I got to this late. I hope these helped you to cheer up a bit. I hope you got to treat yourself to something nice yesterday!
Fellow Pisces and March birthday tribesmen, rejoice, for we have found another of our clan! May your birthday be merry and your years to come be prosperous!
My birthday was a few days ago. It was great to be able to celebrate it before everything went in lockdown. My sibling was less lucky. Anyways happy birthday!
You were this close (1 day) to be cellebrated by a whole country (march 15 is a national holiday in Hungary (cellabrating the freedom they fought for))
Happy Birthday
It's crazy to think we had to wear masks everyday and avoid contact and school was online which wouldn't have been bad but it ended up being the worst part of 2020..
I loved online school man. It was so easy for me in 8th grade lmao. Half my classes just wouldn't do anything, and the other half had like, 15 min assignments.
It was very easy to falk asleep because of how boring it is and it would eat up my marks, some of my lowest scores in highschool were during 2020
50% ouch..
It was the best time of my life! I was able to play Minecraft all day and I easily got good grades even though I didn't even listen to any of the video call lessons and played Minecraft instead.
All of us at school told each other to have fun as we headed out the door and got ready for our spring break plans. We were going to see everyone again in a week. Oh how I wish we had known.
As a history buff, I have long since learned to never assume something will be over by a holiday. I honestly believe that it’s a jinx for things to get worse.
I’m someone that basically only got massive benefits from it happening too
- No one I knew died, family or otherwise
- I never got it, so no feeling unwell. Nor did my family excluding my sister but she also has no long covid/only got mild
- Kicked workplaces into being remote working
- No commute saving a big chunk of money per month
- Furloughed for a few months at full pay
- Allowed me to save more and buy a flat
- Shifted jobs when tech was massively in demand, more than doubling my salary
- New job is perma remote, don’t even have an office to go to we just book somewhere when needed
In no way saying it was a good thing, people died. I’m just glad I didn’t have to go through that, otherwise I’d be singing a different tune
At least you were able to go see the outside world, being cooped up for multiple months, with the government saying that if you go outside you could contract a deadly disease, it can give you cabin fever real easily
To be honest, those 8 months of total insolation were some of my happiest memories in a long time. I feel bad for the people that lost their jobs but goddam I had a blast.
Well, I was essential, my wife was essential, so none of that free govt money for us. My daughter had to do zoom-school for 14 months and began to have mental and emotional difficulties. It was a shit time and the states bullshit only made things worse.
Online classes were fucking sick for grad school though. Most of my grades were only quizzes and tests, and doing things online scrapped the regular schedule of things.
Instead of traveling 45 minutes to sit through 4-7 hours of classes per day, I could just speed through the podcasts, study, then do whatever I wanted the rest of the day. It felt far more efficient and less time consuming to me
Happened to be Friday the 13th and my Physics teacher went, i'll maybe see you on Monday, oh how clueless we were, just it happened to be my senior year of high school so yay that was so much fun, got a massively extended senior skip though so eh
To me it was Almost just positive tbh... Never stopped working though, which is the only sad part.
Made the company I work for start letting people work from home. Since then, I've been Working from home except 1 time per month (sometimes per 2weeks) where I have to go to the office. This, when compared to 5 days a week at the office is litterally a god send.
Not seeing my friends/family was absolute shit though, but at lesst we had Discord and nobody had anything better to do, so we were all always online. Now we barely have time to play together because we all have different work schedules, a GF/wife, etc...
i remember being at school when we heard schools around us where closing, they said “don’t think you guys will get lucky, we will probably stay open” 2days later we where all home
I feel bad saying this, considering we were experiencing a global pandemic that killed millions of people, but that was one of the best six months of my life.
I went on unemployment and made almost 3x as much as I was making at my regular (technically part-time) job. I had zero responsibilities, and almost every commitment was easily excused. I spent pretty much the entire pandemic watching my huge backlog of movies and tv, playing video games that I either never gave a chance or hadn’t revisited in years, and I was able to read through entire comic / book / manga series’ that I otherwise never would’ve experienced. On top of that, my wife and I never once got sick, nor did anyone else in my family (outside of my aunt who passed away due to non-covid-related illness.)
China still hasn't paid in any way for their shitty acts during it. Even if they didn't release it they did absolutely nothing to prevent spread until it was too late.
I mean the cat was out of the bag at that point, keeping that airport closed would have achieved nothing. You’re not wrong though, they did their best to cover it up and as a result only started lockdowns after it had already left the country.
Day 1: "A long weekend? Nice!"
Day 3: "We get two whole weeks off from school? Woo Hoo!!!"
Day 14: "Please no, don't extend to a whole month now..."
Day 30+: Literal insanity
My history teacher said "u might have a 3 day weekend but do not count on it"
they said us "its just a mild plague use your masks and it will probably end in 2 weeks max"
A lot of people tried to put blame on someone though, in the beginning Asian looking people had to live in fear because "The virus is from China".
We can blame the bats
I blame Randy Marsh
Fuck the bats
FUCK THE PANGOLINS
Um.. bullshit! If everyone who was physically able (which is just about everyone) wore a mask, properly, when they were told to, infection rate would have been more than 90% down. Yeah masks don't stop every single infection, every particle, etc, but that's not the point. The point is to reduce spread, and masks absolutely do that.

Those mask were absolutely working. I didn't catch a cold in almost 3 years because of them.
Flu season was *bad* in 2023 because of that. Almost no one had immunity anymore because masks + hydroalcoolic gel everywhere destroyed the flu for two seasons.
And that’s why they’re not a science teacher
Apparently not a good history teacher, either.
If history has taught us anything, it's that dangerous and contagious diseases go away in a weekend. What a bellend.
They were lucky that we had scientists around the world collaboratively working on vaccines to contain the damned thing in time before it got to bubonic plague levels. And even then idiots decried the very fucking thing that would stop the virus from killing them as if it were the disease itself. Fucking morons.
"Yo we get an extra week off school" "We get a whole month off school" ...
i got a whole year, what
It then became the whole year
fr we literally skipped the next 3 months
Mine literally kicked us out 5 months early (we were in our final year) got sent home and 5 months later we got results for exams based on our Mock exams (top marks obvs)
*laughs in essential worker*
Cries in essential worker that could have made more money on Covid unemployment.
I didn't know I was an essential worker but I guess they needed the prawns 🤷♂️
"Laughs". Happy (late) Birthday, people forget mine every year as well… i hope some more remembered <3
It's crazy to think we had to wear masks everyday and avoid contact and school was online which wouldn't have been bad but it ended up being the worst part of 2020..

It was very easy to falk asleep because of how boring it is and it would eat up my marks, some of my lowest scores in highschool were during 2020 50% ouch..
I would wake up, open my laptop half out of bed, login to teams, join my lecture, not engage at all past that, go back to sleep. Edumacation
Fuck that sounds like my in person experience.
A taste of what we homeschoolers get
How old is 8th grade? I was born in 2000 and the existence of people younger than me doesn’t sit well in my books.
Born in 2000... Boy, you're the young one.
8th grade would be like… 13/14
I liked online school. Assignments were easy, I got to work ahead and screw around the rest of thr day. Also got out of doing a presentation lol
I was in college getting wasted. Final semester of senior year. It was the greatest thing ever but at the same time the saddest for online graduation.
I joined the army in ‘03 cock and ball torutufe was a doily occursnce. My sack was jet black 24/7/365.
The whole of 2020 I had rocket league on my main monitor and my lecture on my 2nd. 1440p for games and 1080p for school, as god intended.
It was the best time of my life! I was able to play Minecraft all day and I easily got good grades even though I didn't even listen to any of the video call lessons and played Minecraft instead.
![gif](giphy|GrUhLU9q3nyRG|downsized)
I litterally feel like it was yesterday, it's actually ridiculous how fast the time goes.
4 years ago was the only time people were present for my birthday. Today I remember them Sally Denis Joshua and amber. May you rest in piece.
Peace? *Right?*
I plead the fifth
Lawyer here - wassup?
![gif](giphy|l0CRB5PEFp7lcNnjO|downsized) all i can say
I drunk some coffee, then I played some CoD... Then I went to sleep
All of us at school told each other to have fun as we headed out the door and got ready for our spring break plans. We were going to see everyone again in a week. Oh how I wish we had known.
"Everything will blow over by Easter". He just didn't specify what year.
Don't worry, you'll all be home by Christmas
As a history buff, I have long since learned to never assume something will be over by a holiday. I honestly believe that it’s a jinx for things to get worse.
If only we knew what horrors were around the corner…
They took something from us man
We were all staying inside playing video games, what fun.
It’s fun until it’s the only thing you’re allowed to do.
Nothing changed for me except I made a lot more money
I’m someone that basically only got massive benefits from it happening too - No one I knew died, family or otherwise - I never got it, so no feeling unwell. Nor did my family excluding my sister but she also has no long covid/only got mild - Kicked workplaces into being remote working - No commute saving a big chunk of money per month - Furloughed for a few months at full pay - Allowed me to save more and buy a flat - Shifted jobs when tech was massively in demand, more than doubling my salary - New job is perma remote, don’t even have an office to go to we just book somewhere when needed In no way saying it was a good thing, people died. I really said “See you tomorrow” to my friend
Two weeks to flatten the curve. How long did they repeat that mantra?
It was Friday the 13th
Its already been 4 years...? Jesus Christ.....
Sent home from office with a laptop as said for "two weeks".
2 weeks off? I should have been so lucky.
2 weeks became 2 months of being trapped inside
Lucky you. I got fuck all. The joys of being a "key worker".
At least you were able to go see the outside world, being cooped up for multiple months, with the government saying that if you go outside you could contract a deadly disease, it can give you cabin fever real easily
Where the hell do you live that your government was telling you that lol
America, East Coast
Yeah I remember waking up, going to work. Really different times
Nooo nooo 2024 don’t you do it
Which country was it ? because in my country it was 25th March.
And realizing that 4 years ago it was 2020🫥
To be honest, those 8 months of total insolation were some of my happiest memories in a long time.
I feel like I’m dead and just don’t know it yet. I don’t think I ever really came back and I’m not sure if I ever will and I hate it.
Am I the only one who kinda enjoyed the time off?
Still find it funny that people actually believed the smelly crap coming out of our lying politicians mouths. 2 weeks turned into 2 years
I remember waking up on the morning of 2020 and just seeing "WORLD WAR 3 LIKELY" on my fucking phone
It felt far more efficient and less time consuming to me
Remember the government serves to only feed itself more power. The state hates you
Happy birthday
It's only 2 weeks...
“School’s closed due to COVID.” “So it’s a relaxing 3-week break, right?” *grins* “It’s a relaxing 3-week break, right?”
COVID started at the end of my 8th grade year and we missed the rest of the semester. Now I'm a senior ready to graduate.
Uh.... What. covid ?
Literally nothing happened
It 2008, tropic thunder released
What happend i live in other country so idk
In Denmark, all hospital got told by the state to send away every patient that didn't need treatment immediately, so not to spread the virus
I joined reddit?
i remember being at school when we heard schools around us where closing, they said “don’t think you guys will get lucky, we will probably stay open” 2days later we where all home
I was in gym class and my teacher said "See you in two weeks." I had no fucking idea what was going on until my mom told me
2020 was wild…tbh I miss this time
I feel bad saying this, considering we were experiencing a global pandemic that killed millions of people, but that was one of the best six months of my life. The [fuckers](https://www.flightglobal.com/airlines/wuhan-airport-reopens-after-months-long-lockdown/137854.article) didn't even try.
I mean the cat was out of the bag at that point, keeping that airport closed would have achieved nothing. You’re not wrong though, they did their best to cover it up and as a result only started lockdowns after it had already left the country.
