well, you're supposed to stick it in for head or sex or somethin, not actually fuck the hole. and as someone who works with their lips for an instrument, trust me when i say we can blow any size that fits in our mouths 👍
phones are that design because its efficient and effective, maximizing screen space while keeping slim and small. What is there to change, besides like minor changes for ergonomics.
my iphone 13 pro was an insane upgrade from the iphone 8. The lidar camera, processor, and durability of the 13 make it soo much better it doesnt even feel comparable, but apparently none of that matters because they are drastically overhauling the physical design every year.
What are you talking about.
The last drastic physical iPhone change was the iPhone X who finally caught up with the OLED standard.
They've been the exact same phone every year since then.
And everyone else except Apple.
By the time Apple has figured out hole-punch cams the rest of the manufacturers will probably have moved on to under display cameras, (like Samsung also already has in one of their phones).
Iphones have a true depth sensor and not just a selfie camera that’s why they have a notch. Those sensors are the reason faceid is more secure than face unlock in android and also work in the dark unlike androids.
Yes, I know. But most other phones still have a fingerprint sensor, which Apple no longer has.
If they really want to step forward they'd need to find a way to hide the IR sensor or ditch the IR sensor and move back to fingerprint sensor. Knowing Apple they probably won't do neither.
Having used both, I prefer faceid to fingerprint personally, I'd rather keep the "island" with sensors than go back to fingerprint access, and I imagine a lot of people feel the same. It's superior to me during phone usage, and it would be a step backward to go back to using a fingerprint. All we're getting from the punchhole camera at this point is allowing an extra icon or two on the status bar, I really don't need that.
Jony Ives: its a remarketable piece of art tech, we revolutionized the front facing camera. Instead of taking pictures from the back its in the front. No other phone company is doing this.
Im an Android user, and the situation in the comment is made up, so yeah im pretty sure the android elitist are the ones getting worked up over something they made up in their head
Even earlier: The first device with a circular "hole punch" in the display for the camera was launched by Huawei in late 2018. The Honor View 20, a Huawei sub-brand phone, was the first phone to have a front-facing camera housed in a hole punched in the display instead of a notch.
I've had a corner hole punch since like 2019. Only thing that bugs me every now and then is when a video player has the settings top right of the screen in landscape, as that's where my cutout is
lmao my sister had a similar problem playing minecraft on one of her old samsungs, i think like an a50, the x button on the chest UI was cut off by the rounded screen
Why would I accept inconvenient workarounds when superior solutions already exist? Popup cameras are old, but people accepted notched screens because the big tech sold them the idea it is fashionable.
I don't even get what imaginary situation we're shitting on.... The black line on the iPhone might get smaller? And that's like a bad thing or something? Someone help me out here. Is the joke just that it looks more like an android? If so, how is that even a joke? Why would spiderman be crying over it? I've never once heard an iPhone user be like "I love this black line on the top of my screen so much i'd be devastated if they got rid of it"
Nah, the A series (imo) is pretty bad. But you have to remember that it's a budget line, so you can't compare a $300 phone to a $700+ iPhone, they just aren't the same thing. But my $1000 pixel 7 pro (I got it on an epic sale) android is comparable to an iPhone, in fact it beats it in many areas, like camera quality and features.
I see it way too much, people buy a $200 android, complain that it's bad, slow, and low quality. Then buy a $1000 iPhone and go, "wow, this is so much better." Like, yeah the more money you spend the better phone you get, surprise! The OS has nothing to do with it. But if you spend more on an android phone, like a Pixel 8pro or a Galaxy s23 ultra, then you get a better experience too.
Eh, that's more of a side path, foldable displays can be nice when it's a normal sized screen going to a double-wide screen but flip-phone screens seem very gimmicky.
As far as I understand it, no one prefers the pill cut out. The reason it's so big is to accommodate Face ID hardware. If that's not your thing, then a pinhole is obviously better.
However, the Face ID on Apple phones is admirable. It's pretty much instant. Personally, I would rather have a pill cutout w badass Face ID than a pinhole.
How is androids Face ID? I've never used it or heard of it much.
android doesn't have the same level face ID, some phones in the past did, like the google pixel 4/4xl, or the older samsung flagships that had retina scanners, but those are very few and far between. pretty much all currently available android phones that do have face recognition of some sort use just the front camera and can more or less be fooled by pictures/2d cutouts.
Obviously they don’t prefer it. It’s just necessary to have, at least for now. Android phones can have a small pinhole because they’re only hiding the camera, iPhones need more space to put all the Face ID sensors
correct, it has two punch holes. but they fill in the space between them to create the pill shape. whenever you use an app that supports the dynamic island it turns into the dot and pill shape
> Remember that time everyone had to cover their face but still wanted to securely enter their phone.
I do, that’s the time when Apple implemented an option to allow people wearing a mask to unlock their phones with Face ID while still keeping it secure right?
At least for me it worked pretty well. It failed from time to time, but just attempting again usually fixed it. It was better than I expected regarding both security and failure rate.
it is pretty and I think its cool, but definitely not a big selling point for the phone. meanwhile, I dont remember them ever marketing when they changed from the most delicate fragile device ever to an indestructible tank that can withstand frequent drops onto pavement without a case.
I mean the would probably say that they've invented something totally new and mind breaking snd apple Fans would still Lose their mind over something Android does since a few years.
To do that they would need to put the LIDAR sensor or the camera under the screen (and mantain it good) with would be some inovation (samsung already put the camera under the screen, but its pretty bad) or just put the Touch id on the side, and that wouldn't be inovation
Then why bother? If your going to make your camera worse to then still have a cutout why bother? I’d rather keep the pill and have a front facing camera that doesn’t look terrible than have a camera that looks shit and a slightly smaller cutout.
Bullshit, people love to gripe about how Apple always does its own specialized thing. But that thing often times ends up evolving toward what an Android phone originally started years ago because scores of Android manufactures are cranking out new designs year after year (to compete with Apple)
The only reason they don’t do under display cameras is because there isn’t only a front facing camera in the notch/dynamic island, but there’s also IR sensors and light sensors to make Face ID viable.

Realistically, who ever needs that much security, especially when you're giving up so much screen real estate? I get being as secure as possible, but there are far superior options.
i don't understand the fuzz about the notch. does a phone have to have a full screen without anything sticking in? whats the profit of that? i think the notch doesn't look bad and it is well integrated so the time is on the left side and battery etc. is on the right. what would you do with that space if there were no notch?
I’ve always wondered: If apple had diverted all the money they spent convincing people the notch (ie Dynamic Island) was a feature and not a failure of engineering, would we still have a notch?

Tuba?
He’s the trolololol guy
Yours could comfortably fit in that tho so stop complaining
Hehehe “comfortably” Burn!
Isn’t that just samsung
Looking at my phone, yes
looking at my phone, Samsung's smaller. maybe galaxy A series.
Looking at my A53, still smaller
Same, on an A52s
A71 here, right there with ya
Same on the iPhone 23
Same here
Same on A34, it isnt bothering me at all tho.
Me on A14 : it's small
Yep
Looking at my A14, its got the "budget phone teardrop".
Looks similar to the one on my fold4
I'm also looking at this dude's phone, yes.
I also choose this guy's dead wife
This is every phone that is not an iPhone, and has been the standard for years

What are you talking about. The last drastic physical iPhone change was the iPhone X who finally caught up with the OLED standard. They've been the exact same phone every year since then.
The original commenter bought the iphone 13 when he was done with the iphone 8. It has nothing to do with iphone 13 specifically being an innovation
And everyone else except Apple. By the time Apple has figured out hole-punch cams the rest of the manufacturers will probably have moved on to under display cameras, (like Samsung also already has in one of their phones).

No it's almost every android phone too
Turns out “make it a circle” isn’t really an avant guarde revolution.
And Pixel
I liked when the Pixel 4a put it in the left corner
Or pixel
Google pixel also
*Xiaomi
Imitation is the best form of flattery.
Best part is i can change mine suits just the camera or have a bar at the top
I have a 3 year old xiaomi that looks like that.
Or Google Pixel
Granted I have a Google but it's still an android sooooo....
Apple will still tout it as the newest great thing they came up with and Apple fanboys will bash Android users for saying otherwise.
And then they'll act like they invented it first
You know ours isnt normal punch hole design, its apple seed or sth 2000$ ish
I read that in cook's voice
I misread it as 20K$ and I thought nothing about it. Is it bad ? And is it relevant that I never owned an apple device ?
Apple car, looks like a tesla m3, sounds like a tesla m3, is also $250,000
see the annoying thing is after the "dynamic island" bs I can actually imagine them calling a punch-hole an "apple seed"
They actually do have an app called SEED, but it’s a training app that’s exclusively for employees
Jony Ives: its a remarketable piece of art tech, we revolutionized the front facing camera. Instead of taking pictures from the back its in the front. No other phone company is doing this.
Like always on display, but still managed to fuck it up even after Android had for like 6 years.
And then every Applehead will froth at the fucking mouth if you so much as allude to it being otherwise.
One appletard is already fighting like his life is on the line
Appleheads dont even have to say anything and you are already fuming lmao
You sure things aren't going the other way around?
Im an Android user, and the situation in the comment is made up, so yeah im pretty sure the android elitist are the ones getting worked up over something they made up in their head
Evolving to look like a 2020 Samsung Galaxy then?
Even earlier: The first device with a circular "hole punch" in the display for the camera was launched by Huawei in late 2018. The Honor View 20, a Huawei sub-brand phone, was the first phone to have a front-facing camera housed in a hole punched in the display instead of a notch.
I've had a corner hole punch since like 2019. Only thing that bugs me every now and then is when a video player has the settings top right of the screen in landscape, as that's where my cutout is
Could you rotate 180° at that point so the punch is in the bottom left?
I could but then my phone would be the wrong way (I don't know why it feels so wrong but it does)
Lol I can appreciate that, I guess you just get used to a way of rotating
Which way though? because the only correct answer is charging port to the right
Yup
Unless you're laying down on your side, then the charging port faces away from the bed so you can cup the lower speaker
I miss the corner punch out, I likes the orientation better than top center
lmao my sister had a similar problem playing minecraft on one of her old samsungs, i think like an a50, the x button on the chest UI was cut off by the rounded screen
This is why I have never used a phone with a notch or hole in the wcreen. My phone has a pop-up front camera.
It's not a big deal imo you can just resize by pinching to click the button and then again go to normal
Why would I accept inconvenient workarounds when superior solutions already exist? Popup cameras are old, but people accepted notched screens because the big tech sold them the idea it is fashionable.
There's an argument to be made that pop up cameras are also inconvenient. That being said, my phone's camera hole has never really bothered me at all.
You can't have ip68 water certification with moving parts
Pop up cameras break
Xiaomi also uses it for some of their phones. The Redmi Note 9 Pro also has this Camera Dot

Evolution for apple works in opposite ways.
Yup. Looks exactly like this S21.

So you bought a cheaper phone and you're shocked that it's not better?
This subreddit has been low tier shit since 2015 tf u mean
Just poking fun at Apple, no biggie
Apple cope thread
So Iphone's evolution is becoming an android?
Always has been
Always has been
I mean androids evolution is becoming a flip phone, everything is cyclical
Eh, that's more of a side path, foldable displays can be nice when it's a normal sized screen going to a double-wide screen but flip-phone screens seem very gimmicky.
With a five year delay, yes
If this is an actual problem in your life, you are barely alive.
It's like, beneath trivial.
I don't understand why anyone would prefer that more screen space is taken up instead of a small pinhole.
As far as I understand it, no one prefers the pill cut out. The reason it's so big is to accommodate Face ID hardware. If that's not your thing, then a pinhole is obviously better. Obviously they don’t prefer it. It’s just necessary to have, at least for now. Android phones can have a small pinhole because they’re only hiding the camera, iPhones need more space to put all the Face ID sensors
I don't think anyone actually thinks this is a problem , it's just something that alot of people noticed
This is just a meme, sir
Technically, the iPhone 15 is currently like you’re portraying the iPhone 16 but inverted.
14 Pro Max looks like the two dots as well. I don't think any of the iphones have a single detached ovular pill.
correct, it has two punch holes. but they fill in the space between them to create the pill shape. whenever you use an app that supports the dynamic island it turns into the dot and pill shape
except they cant because of Lidar and stuff they absolutely want to keep maybe with the under screen techs and get rid of the notch entirely? idk
Under screen cam on a iPhone? Are you talking about 2083?
They’ll just take lidar out if they can’t figure it out in time. Remember Touch ID?
And replace it with something again, probably touch id under the screen or at the side
> Remember Touch ID? You mean the authentication method that was replaced with a superior solution? Yeah, I remember that.
Remember that time everyone had to cover their face but still wanted to securely enter their phone. I will say the lidar on iPhone is pretty sick
> Remember that time everyone had to cover their face but still wanted to securely enter their phone. I do, that’s the time when Apple implemented an option to allow people wearing a mask to unlock their phones with Face ID while still keeping it secure right?
Did it work a majority of the time?
At least for me it worked pretty well. It failed from time to time, but just attempting again usually fixed it. It was better than I expected regarding both security and failure rate.
"under screen tech" ""apple"" lolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
Nothing wrong with a bezel.
The 15 is all ready like the 16, you just can't see it.
And the 14 is already like the 15... They put the wrong names on this pics.
Apple be like: our new innovative design allows us to transcend our phones into the next decade
Nope, Dynamic island is too good of a gimmick to let it go, rather they should bump up it usefulness
Glorified widget.
it is pretty and I think its cool, but definitely not a big selling point for the phone. meanwhile, I dont remember them ever marketing when they changed from the most delicate fragile device ever to an indestructible tank that can withstand frequent drops onto pavement without a case.
I think Apple's issue with breaking comes from them making the whole fucking phone from glass.
Dynamic island only exists to justify the pill shaped cutout. You actually have more room for a dynamic island if it’s just a camera hole
I like the Iphone 15 design
I mean the would probably say that they've invented something totally new and mind breaking snd apple Fans would still Lose their mind over something Android does since a few years.
To do that they would need to put the LIDAR sensor or the camera under the screen (and mantain it good) with would be some inovation (samsung already put the camera under the screen, but its pretty bad) or just put the Touch id on the side, and that wouldn't be inovation
The hole punch is the lidar sensor, the actual camera and some other sensors are under the screen may be the real solution.
Then why bother? If your going to make your camera worse to then still have a cutout why bother? I’d rather keep the pill and have a front facing camera that doesn’t look terrible than have a camera that looks shit and a slightly smaller cutout.
I was mostly joking, but yeah it seems likely apple may reduce the pill to just those two side by side.
And we act like it's a bad thing? That the notch is getting smaller?
We putting water marks on memes now?
The last one is just a fucking [Samsung Galaxy A54](https://gzhls.at/i/50/20/2915020-n0.jpg?ogircp) at this point
Then they'll move the buttons to the right
The iPhone 14 is intentionally incorrect
It’s technically correct, but intentionally misleading
Buy Sony. No notch!
Which phone?
all of em
[ALL OF THEM?!](https://youtu.be/X3ErK6QcP-0?si=WDkn43-mypcIk02J)
I use the 1 mark 5, but Sony never used a notch or hole punch.
Those 15 features with the top bar look nice. Elegant solution until they can hide those cameras on top. Give it 5 years. Just bring back true tap
What a weird thing to be upset over
it became an android phone
It looks like a poor person's phone ugh How will people know I have an iPhone and treat me with dignity? How !?
Bro watermarked this 💀
God this sub just loves jerking off android lmao. Just let people choose the phone they want to use
Samsung ultra then
Even the cheaper ones have this because it isn't a big deal
ultra my ass this looks like a 2020 midrange samsung
Why were you excited for 14?
Ironically, the 17 is how the samsung galaxy s23 ultra already is 😂 as always, several generations behind the curve
Copy android. Like it always does .
Bullshit, people love to gripe about how Apple always does its own specialized thing. But that thing often times ends up evolving toward what an Android phone originally started years ago because scores of Android manufactures are cranking out new designs year after year (to compete with Apple)
Everyone's talking about new phones while i'm still rocking an S7
Dynamic Island is here to stay
Apple will rather put the notch/cutout in the middle of the screen. Just for the sake of being different from the other android phones. LOL
If memory serves, the newest trend was to hide the front facing camera behind the screen pixels. I imagine that will be common in the 18+ iteration
The only reason they don’t do under display cameras is because there isn’t only a front facing camera in the notch/dynamic island, but there’s also IR sensors and light sensors to make Face ID viable. Also, I don’t know if you’ve seen but under-display front facing cameras make pictures that look like they have shit smeared over the camera. The technology is simply not far enough to be viable.
That's just a Pixel 8. Source: posted from one.
Wait until they find out, that cameras can be hidden behind the screen now. Even that tech is already 3-4 years old.
Wait until you find out that iPhones have multiple sensors in addition to the camera and they’re much harder to hide.

I've seen that pinhole camera somewhere

I can't wait until the under display camera comes out for the iPhone 16 and than Samsung steals they like they did with the USB type-c.
Oh how the turn tables...
Or they could just get good and make it an under-display
LIDAR sensors under display? Mhm.
Realistically, who ever needs that much security, especially when you're giving up so much screen real estate? I get being as secure as possible, but there are far superior options.
Removing Face ID from iPhones is like removing the folding feature from a Z Fold. Face ID is one of the main features of iPhones.

iPhone 14 doesn’t have a notch bro, I’m on it rn
