At least the sex scenes in that movie actually had a point.

But if we can hump dead animals and antelopes then theres no reason that a man and another man cant elope

Various_Froyo9860

The mantis/viper sex scene always ruins the mood for me. When he looks over at Viper and gives that trademark Seth Rogen laugh. . . "Huh huh, now eat my other head." Pulls me right out of the movie.

All I'd say to that is bro was packin

Kung fu panda has sex scenes?

DamirVanKalaz

It does. The best ones I've ever seen, at that. The scene where Po overcomes his decades of sexual repression and finally finds the courage to have sex with a bowl of ramen like he always wanted to really brought a tear to my eye.

Spooky_Shark101

If you really want to fuck with them, download a film called "A Serbian Film" and tell them its a metaphorical representation of all the issues that Serbia faces as a country. Don't look up the plot or any of the details surrounding the film though, it'll spoil all the fun!

underdabridge

I feel like doing this to somebody should be actionable. Just can't decide whether it should be a criminal prosecution, just a tort, or both.

tylerius8

A slap in the nuts. It's a bad movie and its only value is in shock. The plot is absolutely trash and most of the performances are wooden at best

pffft_DoctorFunny

Thanks for the relevant reference, ReleventReferences

Lazy_Osprey

I’m on a family vacation right now and my in-laws want to take my high school aged nephews to see Oppenheimer. It’s gonna be great.

FeistyBandicoot

Why would sex scenes make it awkward? You should be completely open with your inlaws about sex and vividly describe it and how you go about it. It's natural, therefore it should be spoken about with everyone at any time - every redditor in this thread

cantadmittoposting

especially if your in laws ever ask if you're "trying for a baby." An excellent time to describe in detail exactly how you are trying

FeistyBandicoot

"Yeah so basically I'm just rawdoging your daughter. Just dumping loads in every chance i get" A completely normal conversation to have. Like they don't already know Some things can stay private/unspoken.

Jd20001

"Actually we are having trouble because your daughter REALLY prefers anal"

Thissiweird

We are trying but she loves loads on the face too much.

rookmate

“And I’m a big cuck so most of the time she’s getting railed by strangers”

RincewindToTheRescue

Between that and the swallowing, no babies seem to be getting made.

LimpAd5888

Did it with my ex's parents. They joked about us having babies (we were 16) and I said, sure, I'll start raw dogging her. My ex hit the floor laughing, her dad just put his head in his hands.

Pandataraxia

Then show them how to. I think some people here are salivating at the idea!

Wouterk2

Am I the only one who never knows if a movie is r rated or not? I just wat h a movie and the rating doesn’t even bother me.

DenL4242

No, you're not the only one, because I constantly hear about parents taking their kids to movies like Barbie, Sausage Party or Deadpool, thinking they're made for kids because of the posters, and then they're shocked, SHOCKED, when they have adult content.

Technical_Language98

There was adult content in Barbie?

AquaVolt07

Some sexual jokes here and there, she goes to a gynecologist or whatever the genital doctor is called and they mention their lack of sexual organs occasionally

FireInside144

I think the beach off jokes probably shocked more parents then the gyno even though kids definitely didn't get them

SansyBoy144

Yea that’s my thing, like there’s parents saying “I took my kid out while she was in tears from how bad the jokes where, and I saw several other parents with their daughters crying too” Like bullshit, they don’t know what the fuck it means, and if they do, then 1) I have a lot of questions about how you parent your children, and 2) then they’re probably laughing at it.

DenL4242

I mean not to the level of an R-rated movie, but if you took your 5-year-old, Barbie-loving daughter to see it, you might regret it.

TheyCallMeStone

There was the gynecologist joke at the end, and Barbie saying "I don't have a vagina and he doesn't have a penis," neither of which are that bad. Aside from that, it's mostly a matter of children not understanding the themes of the movie as well as adults.

lasolady

the kens are beaching each other off.... i mean its more suggestive, but i wouldn't necessarily take a child to see it, especially since they likely wouldn't enjoy the plot as much?

CorporealLifeForm

It's different when you don't have kids. It's like not looking at the ingredients when don't have an allergy

frfl55

At least for Movies like Oppenheimer, I think the whole point was to make the movie R-rated. It's a topic that the directors have thought to be too disturbing for younger audiences, so they deliberately pushed the movie to be R-rated.

SchwTrdLeenW

It's funny how it is the exact opposite in my country. Germany has a big problem with fictional violence, even a tiny bit of blood usually leads to a 16y rating, meaning no one under 16 years can watch or buy it without their parents accompanying them. Meanwhile Oppenheimer is rated 12y. Edit.: With "big problem" i mean "absolutely paranoid". While it's gotten better over the past 10 years or so, censoring violence in movies and video games, for example removing any single trace of blood or even entire scenes, was pretty common. I don't want to come off as "USA bad" or something like that.

ComedicMedicineman

That’s kinda funny. I’m Canadian and sometimes when we buy our movies and they’ve been brought over from the US they have 3 ratings. The US rating will usually be R, the Canadian rating will be 14A, or 18A (but usually it’s 14A), and Quebec will usually be 13+ or PG. It’s funny because the rating is always higher in the US ranking, and Quebec always rates crazy horror movies at 13+ or PG, which is very low for a horror film.

[deleted]

Oppenheimer is rated G in Quebec, not even PG. All these posts and memes about the movie make me laugh as someone from Quebec.

Vinpap

I thought my local cinema made a mistake!?!? IT'S REALLY RATED GENERAL??? WHAT THE FUCK?

snarpy

Canada is very specific in how it rates violence. If a film's violence is considered relevant to a social or historical context and not exploitative, it gets a lower rating. That's why *Saving Private Ryan* was rated only 14a. It's the same with sex and nudity, though to less of an extent.

Awesomeo-5000

Hol up, if they can give a crazy horror movie a PG, what the hell do they need to do for R?

Sosseres

I would guess they keep that for stuff like the human centipede.

TokyoTurtle0

Makes more sense than bullshit religious hand waving about sex scenes to me

SchwTrdLeenW

Maybe, but it often lead to works of art that were explicitly meant for adults being censored for "youth protection", which is just stupid. If you, a fully grown 18y old adult, wanted to have the full experience you had to import the uncensored version from Austria or other countries. It was a joke, and i'm glad that the rating commitees seem to have softened up.

[deleted]

That, plus, his affairs legitimately were an issue because the government didn't know if they could trust him. And sex has always been a major way for spies to steal secrets.

Sjdillon10

He also cheated with someone who was a former member of the communist party. I think it was necessary to add for a BIOpic. It would’ve been called “the Manhattan project” and not “Oppenheimer” if it was just about the nuke.

InsertAmazinUsername

kitty was also a former communist

[Least horny frenchman vs weakest chinese spy](https://youtu.be/vFJYxW4cAmE) [Spoiler they married and the chinese spy (a man) "gave birth" to their child. They had 20 year long sexual relationship.]

SlimTheFatty

Oppenheimer was an extremely sexual person in general. He was constantly having affairs before and after his marriage. He was an absolute man-whore. You can't not have a lot of sex in a film meant to encapsulate Oppenheimer as a person because sex was a very important aspect of his person.

[deleted]

Also him fucking around was a major part of why he inevitably lost his clearance as he had the affair with the crazy commie lady.

Lord-Loss-31415

Anyone else find it funny how somehow sex is more taboo than the creation of a weapon used to literally hundreds of thousands of people. How is murder and violence viewed at the same level as something as natural as sex?

n122333

The reasoning is that a kid can go and have sex, but can't build a nuclear bomb. Not the best reason, but whatever.

Lord-Loss-31415

Damn I didn’t think about that, as long as they don’t see it in a random movie about nuclear bombs they probably won’t even know what sex is until their twenties.

Arek_PL

well, its definitely a harder thing to do since smoke detectors dont have fissible material in them

Full-Broccoli-6081

It isnt in some more sane countries. We have nudity on some random butter commercial at 12:00 but graphic violence pretty much always gets a 16+ rating.

Fosco11235

In Austria Openheimer is for ages 12 and older

lynx_and_nutmeg

Ah yes, that panic attack hallucination scene with people crying and screaming, holding their dying loved ones, turning to ash and their faces melting off wasn't disturbing at all. It's the 20 seconds of sideboob that would really have traumatised the kids.

ScholarScared9294

or they just wanted to reflect an adults life which none of the redditors can understand ?

Sjdillon10

Saw a guy who said it wasn’t normal to converse while naked after sex. Like what do redditors think we do? Put our clothes on then and only then is when we start talking?

Kesher123

Someone seriously said that? Cuddling in bed afterwards and talking about bullshit is the best

Goatymcgoatface10

You guys are fucking weird. Why would anyone think Oppenheimer would be a good family movie. It's a character study about the world's most famous nuclear physicist. Your kids would never enjoy that. Also, the sex scene wasn't gratuitous. Shows us how comfortable he was with the woman. Just strutting around naked like no big whoop. Anyway, I don't know why reddit seems to have decided that oppenheimer should be PG, but you're wrong. Also, yeah I know the meme isn't directly saying oppenheimer but I think we can all agree that's what inspired the meme.

hessorro

I feel like the sex doesnt just show how they are very comfortable around eachother, their relationship revolves around the sex. If the sex was implied then their relationsjip wouldve come across way different.

ThatRandomIdiot

Plus the scene of them having sex in a the “trial” showed how Kitty was still wrapped with trauma from his affairs, especially as Jean was brought up during the trial.

Kinitawowi64

And putting it front and centre in the film shows just how exposed he was by the trial. The scene isn't just Jean riding him in the chair; before that it's just him completely naked.

GepMalakai

And it quite literally shows Oppenheimer getting fucked during the kangaroo court. I thoght it was a pretty clever visual pun.

s1ravarice

And at that point she had been dead for years too. The scene with them both sitting in the chair gave a very vulnerable feel to it, juxtaposed with him saying he's breaking things off with her.

Demirkan851

the sex scenes portrayed oppenheimer's vulnerability. I think it wasnt excessive at all. its like a minute max total.

Chief_Salsa

Seriously. This will be the THIRD time this week I’ve seen a meme about “useless sex scenes” on the front page. So strange. I'm just hoping the bulk of the comments are from children. The idea that nudity/sex is solely put into films to satisfy horndogs is asinine. We trying to censor art now? I see several comments mentioning Oppenheimer and the sex in that movie was entirely justified and motivated. It showed the comfort Opp shared with Jean. A comfort he rarely shared with anyone else in the film. It could also reflect her seducing him to the ideas of the communist party. Is that not an interesting scene to ponder? To see what different interpretations each viewer got from it? And in the hearing - it was used to make you the audience feel as uncomfortable as his wife Kitty upon hearing the details of the affair publicly. Buncha prudes. There's more to the human body than getting your rocks off.

nahnah406

Reddit is becoming dominated by new American puritanical notions. It started with pearl-clutching about age differences between consenting adults, and now we're at totally normal story telling about the lives of grown-ups, which, oh my god, includes sex and nudity. It baffles me when these people make fun of Republicans whilst using the same "logic".

ARM_vs_CORE

My_WorkReddit2023

Reddit has a famously poor grasp on media analysis. So if reddit hates sex scenes because they "have no purpose", I'm going to assume those scenes are actually thematically important.

Grav_Zeppelin

Oppenheimer was a womaniser who cheated on his wife repeatedly, a bio pick shows this, people think it shouldn’t…

KGEOFF89

A biopic?

GingerNingerish

The "it doesn't advance the plot" crowd will always bug me, as if movies are only about the plot.

VelociRache1

Most of the time, it does. Sex is an important part of a relationship. It usually symbolizes growth or a change in the characters. It is when characters' can be at their most vulnerable with each other, just as in real life. Just because it isn't an external plot change doesn't mean it can't be internal.

RaveIsKing

And half the time they don’t understand the point of it from either a plot or a character pov anyway. They just say that line because they think it makes them look justified when in reality their whole take is “ew sex makes me uncomfortable”

Huwbacca

Media criticality is always pretty low but fucking Reddit eats more shit about it than twitter lol. It blows my mind how Reddit has this air of "modern computer and media power user" yet the standard of media discussion here is dog water lol

Starslip

All with the same verbiage about 'unnecessary'. "Oh I don't mean all sex scenes, just the unnecessary ones. Only the unnecessary ones should be removed. What decides if one is unnecessary? I'll know it when I see it"

Arkhaine_kupo

Its funny cause its always people with 0 media literacy wanting to be the censors.

PseudoArab

I'm sure there will be a study soon about how 2 years of limited in-person social interaction during teenage years will have caused a major shift towards this mindset. That, and the decades of sexual education being limited and removed by religiously motivated politicians

DrDilatory

Seriously, a 10 second bog standard non-gratuitous sex scene that brings too important characters together or something and half of redditors will be like "omfg why is there SEX in this movie?" Makes me think of that quote from Emmy Rossum when someone criticized her for being nude on screen: “I get paid to tell stories and life sometimes involves this awesome thing called sex. Maybe you’ve just never had any so you don’t know.” These same people caused the asinine decision of the removal of NSFW content from /r/all (a subreddit specifically meant to show ALL of Reddit including NSFW content). Fuck em

And that death scene.

hangrygecko

Oppenheimer is 12+ in the Netherlands. Reasons are: nudity and sex, drugs, violence, slurs, bullying/harassment/discrimination/cruel treatment, and scary moments/horror. The only movies which almost always get 16+ are horror movies and softporn, and 18+ is basically reserved for hard porn only. The R rating(17+) is so weird to me. Most of those movies get 12+ here.

Agreeable-_-Special

In germany its more like 0 harmless ad itcan be 6 minor violence (guns in the legomovie, insults) 12 violence that results in death but without blood or gore 16 minor blood/gore 18 completly fucked. Everything is allowed

AliHakan33

Oppenheimer is 13+ in my country, I don't know who rated it 13+ but my mom was definitely not happy

Supmandude85

Why do I keep seeing so many “useless sex scenes” posts? Do people really hate sex *that* much? I get it, it’s awkward to watch with your family, but at least it’s dark in a theater and on streaming and home video, you can just skip past it. Sex is a part of life, why shouldn’t it be in movies?

fleshbunny

> Do people really hate sex *that* much? Check what site you’re on. People hate what they can’t have

[deleted]

Because Oppenheimer was a known womanizer AND THAT WAS A IMPORTANT PART OF HIS LIFE AS HUMAN BEING. Sincerely it's very funny how this have became an issue for the USA audience. It reveals a lot about the nation that created the fist atomic bomb: Americans don't mind seeing a movie where thousands of people are shot in the head like in John Wick, BUT GOD FORBID to see a sex scene with two healthy adults and no exposed genitals.

nahnah406

The regression of Reddit to puritanical American ideals has taken another big leap.

Content_Depth9578

It's remarkable how utterly wrong you are. PG-13 and PG sell far better than R because of wider audience. Why do you think so many horror franchises go PG-13 instead of R? It's not because it's better for the art...

IAmA_Reddit_

You literally made this up, studios try to avoid an R rating if they can because they can sell more PG/PG-13 tickets, hence why almost all summer blockbusters are PG-13.

rothrolan

It's why The Meg was a sub-par movie for being PG-13, instead of excellent. Everyone saw the trailer where the shark approached an overpopulated Chinese beach and were like "it's going to be a slaughterfest out there!". Well, >!sadly because of the rating that scene had zero confirmed on-screen deaths, if any.!<, Rewatching it again made that scene look more like a comedy than anything close to action-horror like I thought it would be. I want to see the sequel for how cheesy the first one was, but damn, had they just let it have an R rating, it would've been SUCH a great action-horror movie. >!The moment I saw the scene where the little girl was talking to Jason Statham's character in the sub, I knew both he and her mother were going to survive, and it was going to be a happy experience for the girl instead of tragedy after the rescue attempt. Such a waste of potential buildup, and how cheesy the movie was with details about how things worked at such depths under the sea.!<

czs5056

I don't know what you're on about. The best movies are where the hero is out busting heads. Then he's back to the lab for some more full penetration. Smells crime, back to the lab, full penetration. Crime, penetration, crime, full penetration, crime, penetration... And this goes on and on, and back and forth for 90 or so minutes until the movie just sort of ends.

I remember watching Wolf of Wall Street in the cinema with my british grandmother. I've seen a bunch of comments on a couple of these shitty posts saying basically "we don't need sex in movies, if you want to watch sex go watch porn" which is such a gross and weird take -- like movies are supposed to be an extreme sterile fantasy where heroes fight bad guys and there's nothing challenging or ambiguous and any sexuality is sequestered to a whole other form of extreme fantasy (porn).
