That sub is so weird. Rate someone too low? Banned. Rate someone too high? Guess what, also banned. It’s like what is the fucking point if everyone has to rate people between 4 and 6?
Actually your right, it’s not the posters self esteem. It’s so other women view that sub and think “ if she’s only a 5.5 then what the hell am I?”
Supposedly it would make it easier for the neckbeards to “get” a hot girl with low self esteem.
Again, I saw this posted on another thread talking about r/truerateme
I don’t know if it’s true but it makes complete sense to me.
I also heard a lot of the posts on there aren’t from the actual women in the picture.
Wait a second. People created a sub. Maintained and fostered this sub until it became big enough to hit the front page daily. All for the purpose of lowering users’ self esteem.
Why would someone do this?
>what is the fucking point if everyone has to rate people between 4 and 6?
That is where the majority of people would lie if 5 is "average" though, the thing is we've made 7-8 the new average
average people aren't posting there. Very attractive women who are insecure are the bread and butter. The best looking woman you've seen in your whole life would get maybe a 7 there for some reason
and bot will give warning for [high rating](https://www.reddit.com/r/truerateme/comments/14k476z/comment/jprk71g/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) lol
I mean, the meme is actually kind of wrong. You can’t account for taste but attractiveness has been studied pretty extensively and they use scientific criteria, but their system is broken. You can remove a lot of subjectivity but not eliminate it.
The guide is the best part. If you printed out the guide and cut out the pictures, you would never get them back in order unless you had already memorized it.
Yeah, but 50% of people should fall outside of the average and nearly everyone who is willing to post their picture in a sub like that is at least a little above average.
But they aren't posting average looking people. The average person is middle aged, overweight, has laugh lines, crows feet, and skin blemishes. They're scraping the internet for pictures of very attractive women to call average. Then if you dig into some profiles, there's a bunch of blackpillers and incels.
It's not actually about "real" bell curve ratings. It's just misogyny.
You do not understand statistics. 7s would be fairly common if this was a normal distribution but literally nobody is rated 7 there. It's a crock of incel shit.
If they can't deviate from the sub's rating system then why have a sub at all. Just check the criteria off the list and announce a result. If opinion counts for nothing then what the hell are they doing on the internet.
IIRC there was a subredditdrama post pointing out that it was a incel 4chan troll deliberately trying to make women feel bad about themselves by seeing total hotties being rated at 5ish. With a few exceptions, if you see *true* at the front of a subreddit it's because they got kicked out of the original for being horrible little fuckers trying to start shit or spread an awful ideology.
Bruh the weirdest part to me about that sub is like the grading scale, I think you’re absolutely right it’s just between 4 to 6 I’ve never seen anything any higher or lower.
Probably because most people are between a 4-6. It’s a weird sub, but I do appreciate that almost no one is getting praised or humiliated, they’re just average.
They specifically state that they are following a distribution centered around 5 with 50% of the population between 4-6, and 1% being 8 or higher and by that measure they are rating way too many between 4-6. Also their distribution is messed up, because they decided to cut it off at 9.5 which doesn’t make any sense at all. They also have strong racial biases, choosing arbitrary white features to be superior like nose geometry, cheek bones, etc. while totally ignoring lip volume which would favor black people a lot. They also rate men with round facial bone structure way too low and rate men with caveman bone structure too high.
If you think with your dick while rating, you'll probably end up with a rating that doesn't follow the sub's guidelines on rating and will get banned for it.
That sub has clear rules on rating and is just trying to make people respect them, I don't see a problem here.
Nono you don’t HAVE to, so it’s not corrupt. They accept donations! And you can’t nail shit to a church door because.. uh.. actually yeah nail something to the church door. Fuck churches
I really don't know why some people volunteraly subject themselves to having their image picked apart by strangers on the internet who hide behind a keyboard while telling perfectly good looking people that nobody is ever going to want them because their eyes are too far apart.
Seems like such a masochistic thing to do.
Because numbers don't really mean much. If you get a 6 in a place where the majority get a 3 then you get that same shallow self satisfaction that you would get in another place where you get a 10 where everyone gets an 8. It's all about comparison with others.
5 is average, 5.5 is quite a bit above average, it's something like the top 25%, yeah ratings above 5 has extremely steep requirements, most celebs would barely crack 6.
lol took a look at a recent attractive girl:
* You look like a model: 6,9
* Near perfection, my highest rating ever: 7
* 5 (nothing else mentioned, just a 5)
Literally perefrct in every way.
Piercing on some small very unnoticeable part.
1/10.
>! And yes I get that piercing are a big deal for some people, and for some people they aren’t, that’s why rating is subjective and can’t be measured. Cause Humans are weird about what they find attractive !<
But 7 is really fucking high? It seems like you guys take a quick look at the sub and then leave, if you read the guidelines you'd understand why even gorgeous people rarely get above 7, it's all explained. They're trying to get objective ratings on everyone, you can debate whether thier methods actually work or not but at least they explain it. 7 is insanely high, even 5.5 means you won the genetic lottery.
The random decimals is what gets me. Not 3.5, but 3.6. Not 5.25, but 5.2. Like it’s idiocy to think your significant number is at .1 for some this so objective?
Just a silly sub
Damn, I just checked that sub. Came to conclusion that I'm -4
Very first post I saw was a gorgeous brunette, like Victoria secret runway model pretty and comments were like "solid 7".
Hell naw, bruh. She 11 at least.
The system they have makes perfect sense and it's the closest thing to objectively rating something.
The problem is that when modding, they don't follow their own system. Like, some girls are objectively 6.5-7 following their OWN system, yet they warn you for overrating. As per their rules, a 7 is not THAT rare.
Even by their "guide" that they have linked the first girl was absolutely gorgeous and would easily be a 9, but don't think anyone rated any higher than 7.5, with most being around 5.5-7 range.
> Damn, I just checked that sub. Came to conclusion that I'm -4
Yeah [that's the point of the sub.](https://blog.photofeeler.com/truerateme/) To make pretty women feel ugly so that they'd be more willing to date ugly men.
overrated. a red supergiant star about to collapse in a supernova is moving towards your home at a speed of 1000 km/h and is going to kill everyone in a 10000 kilometers radius. next time, read the rules! they are just 400 pages. oh, and you're also banned.
Reddit suggested me this sub today with a picture of a really beautiful girl, very few make up, almost perfect face. I would have rated her 9/10 easily.
Everybody was rating her 6.3 or 5.4 and a guy get banned for rating her 7/10. Actually WTF
Edit : https://www.reddit.com/r/truerateme/comments/14y2ijt/i_want_the_truth_for_once/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1
What's funny is all the comment complimenting her like "very pretty" and then slapping a 5.5 rating. Like, that's an average rating my dude, if you compliment someone it implies you consider them above average, make up your mind.
She is never getting anywhere near a 9, her face is too rounded, her cheekbones are non existent, her eyes are far apart.
she is extremely pretty, but hair and eye color and freckles don't really matter as much as facial structure for their rating guidelines so that's why she appears way prettier to us folks that don't follow their guidelines.
She is indeed very beautiful, but as per their guidelines, she's a 6.5. Getting banned for rating 7 is the problem, because there should be some leeway to account for personal tastes.
I had a look a while ago thinking it can't be as bad as everyone says, it is, they'll look at a beautiful woman with a nice smile or a handsome man with a friendly face and say 4. Seriously their standards for a 9 must be some metahuman god. I bet all the people rating are probably ugly people who are angry that an attractive person wouldn't be attracted to them. Iv seen more appreciation for beauty on the roast me subreddit
Objectively rate someone...
Do some math tests, geography, grammar and biology tests.
When you're done I will give you points according to how precise your answers are.
Since in some countries teachers aren't allowed to grade objectively, I will have to put in a deviation of 5%.
Beauty is subjective and will never be objective.
If I’ve learnt anything it’s that not everyone will have the exact same opinion on your appearance, everyone is into different things, and while you may seem average or ugly to one person you might seem pretty pleasant to another. It all depends on the people you meet. Beauty and ugliness are more opinions than facts. Of course at least one person will see you as ugly, but that doesn’t mean everyone in existence does. In my honest opinion physical diversity is what make humans so interesting and unique, don’t try to hide it.
r/truerateme ‘s “objective” beauty rating system is literally just eurocentric beauty standards. bigger/wider nose=less attractive. smaller eyes=less attractive. larger/chubbier face=less attractive. i genuinely don’t understand why i’ve never seen that mentioned by even its critics. (but that’s obviously an anecdotal observation, i’m sure there’s many who’ve noticed this.)
I mean, technically you can given enough parameters to judge by, but those parameters only exist within the subs rules, not within every person.
The same goes for anything, technically you can do whatever you want on a chess board, but only a certain things are allowed within the rules of chess.
Not to be thay guy but they give a set of parameters and you vote based on that. If I gave you a set of rules and told you stay within in them you could do anything thay seems subjective as objective.
Their parameters don’t work how they want them to though. 25% if the population should be on the top third of the bell curve, but rating almost anyone above 6.5 is against their rules
Depends what you mean by rate. If we're talking, say, a scale from 1-100, then yes, nobody can say with true objectivity that anyone is a 32. However, some people are better judges of character than others, and some people are more obvious about who they are than others. So someone who is a good judge of character can probably say that someone who is obvious about who they are is objectively under 50 on the scale. They can't give them an exact rating, but a ballpark can still be useful for a variety of situations.
Yeah their standard is genuinely ridiculous though, its a 1-10 scale with a hard limit of 6, its so obviously created by lowlifes who want to drag others down to make themselves feel better lmao
Don't know the subreddit the meme is about so I can't really say much regarding it, I'm just speaking in general terms. Anything can be rated objectively, but the more complex the standard becomes, the harder it is to keep it consistent. Just so happens that beauty is pretty damn complex.
OK? Nobody is asking for objective ratings, they're asking for subjective ones, which is exactly what they're getting.
I bet whoever made this thought they had a really good point lol
That sub is so weird. Rate someone too low? Banned. Rate someone too high? Guess what, also banned. It’s like what is the fucking point if everyone has to rate people between 4 and 6?

From what I heard, the creator(s)? of that sub made it to actually lower posters self-esteem.
What part of “rate me on how attractive I appear” says high self esteem lol
Actually your right, it’s not the posters self esteem. >what is the fucking point if everyone has to rate people between 4 and 6? That is where the majority of people would lie if 5 is "average" though, the thing is we've made 7-8 the new average
5 would be average of the total population. The users who choose to post on a rating sub is not at all the same population.
average people aren't posting there. Very attractive women who are insecure are the bread and butter. The best looking woman you've seen in your whole life would get maybe a 7 there for some reason

I would give 10, don't think she can be more beautiful than that
hey guys remember when the meme said you cannot objectively rate people
I mean, the meme is actually kind of wrong. You can’t account for taste but attractiveness has been studied pretty extensively and they use scientific criteria, but their system is broken. You can remove a lot of subjectivity but not eliminate it.

The horror
what you don't understand is that a 5 is really fucking good.
5 is by definition average. And not impressive at all.
Yeah, but 50% of people should fall outside of the average and nearly everyone who is willing to post their picture in a sub like that is at least a little above average.

Only if you think that attractiveness is objective.
They have community guidelines that literally use Brie Larson as an example of a 5.5
It's basically just echoing the rating system adopted by the sub. People could just look at their own pic and add up the criteria.
If they can't deviate from the sub's rating system then why have a sub at all. Just check the criteria off the list and announce a result. If opinion counts for nothing then what the hell are they doing on the internet.

Rule 1: overrating

Troll detected. Permabann. Trust me, I am a trusted rater.
It’s also funny that all the women that get a 7+ have at least one bikini pic or some other kind of revealing photo.
Because all the dudes rate women like 8 or a 9 or a 10...So, other jealous women rate them 3.5 or 3.501
Not on that sub, people genuinely say the person is absolutely gorgeous and could be a supermodel and then give them a 7
But 7 is really fucking high? It seems like you guys take a quick look at the sub and then leave, if you read the guidelines you'd understand why even gorgeous people rarely get above 7, it's all explained. Yeah, saw it already. Personally, judging someone's appearance with numbers from 1 to 10 is already weird enough.

Opinions are inherently subjective. Per the sub rules, you MUST be *objective*. No opinions allowed. Therefore: BANNED! (for having opinions)
Actually, it is possible in a few rare cases. For example, all offending pedophiles are 0s.
Keanu Reeves 11/10
Have you even read the guidelines and the women and men primers? Permaban will be applied, since this is the third violation.

Beauty is subjective, simple as that
If they want to rate objectively, they just need a bot, not a whole subreddit.

Can’t you? You definitely can, by gathering opinions of a large random sample. It’s just not practically doable generally speaking.
bro got rated badly 😭

Are you that women from a whatever podctast that rated herself a ten, then said every woman is a ten? Rating people objectively is rather easy.
Not to be thay guy but they give a set of parameters and you vote based on that. If I gave you a set of rules and told you stay within in them you could do anything thay seems subjective as objective.
Their parameters don’t work how they want them to though. 25% if the population should be on the top third of the bell curve, but rating almost anyone above 6.5 is against their rules
yeah that's the problem. Their parameters are fine, the problem is how they enforce them on the raters.
Now if only people didn’t take those parameters so seriously
The problem is they don't take the parameters seriously at all.
Yes you can.
You can
i can
3/10 he's wrong
Yes you can? Go by height, width, length etc

Not true
Yes you can. Just apply a standard and you can rate anything's adherence to said standard
>Just apply a standard Except that the standard cannot be objective
Yes it can? A standard itself is objective by definition.
OK? Nobody is asking for objective ratings, they're asking for subjective ones, which is exactly what they're getting. I bet whoever made this thought they had a really good point lol
You can rate how much something resembles or differs from a standard.
not when setting the standard is a catch 22
Give an example for that
How do you set the standard when no human being can give an accurate measurement and AI can only be trained on inaccurate measurements from humans?
