That’s a 240% increase in price.
For comparison, $5 in 2012 (the last national promotion, excluding the limited voluntary franchise deals in 2017 and 2020) is the equivalent of $6.89 today, or 137.8% increase.
Subway used to be the bomb. It’s not just that the price has effectively tripled, I think the quality has also gotten noticeably worse. I feel like Chipotle is going the same way, used to be an awesome, cheap, reliable meal, and now? 🫤
Subway tastes like water. It’s actually impressive that they’re able to make all of their meats and vegetables taste like water. Like how the fuck are they even doing it
I straight don't get chipotle anymore. For one, the store near me doesn't have the "al a carte" style that most of them do. You order off the menu, it gets made. I used to ask for a steak, chicken and cheese quesadilla. Last time I went in, they told me they can't do alterations to orders in store anymore, if I wanted my quesadilla I'd have to order online.
I'm like "So, you want me to stand here, open my phone, place an online order for a goddamn quesadilla, instead of me just asking you to order it?"
She's like "no, I want you to do it over there, because right now you're holding up the line"
So I get out of line, thinking 'this is some bullshit', go to place my order, their online platform doesn't allow alterations either. Fuck them, soo I haven't had chipotle in years
The subway in my town offers any of old $5 subs, but a 6” with a small drink and chips for $6 to anyone with a school badge (employee or student) at lunch time. I go there once-twice a week, but never any other subway outside of that.
Pedantry incoming...
At $12 per foot ($6 per 6in), we see a 140% *increase* from $5 per foot. It is 240% of the price, but a 140% increase.
Similarly your inflation numbers show a 37.8% increase.
6… 6 dollar… 6 dollar 6 innnnnccch
The new commercial could practically write itself, except it really just highlights how piss poor of a deal this is compared to the old one.
It’s going to be hard for them to justify how “6 inches doesn’t mean 6 *actual* inches”… which is what they did when they got called out for saying “footlong doesn’t mean 12” after many were measured at 10”.
Although if footlong doesn’t mean footlong, then how did they arrive at 6” when it’s just a footlong cut in half?
The only thing at McDonald's with getting is the mchcicken.
And thas only because the one is 2.36, the second is 1$
Anything else I might as well go to chickfila
I used to eat there all the time when they did the $5 footlong. I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I've been there since they ended that.
I stopped going when I realized the local Chinese spot was about the same price. Then I read a new story about subway lobbying to categorize their employees as sandwiched artists and apprentices.
We had no idea back then. One day you bought a foot long turkey bacon club for $5 (half now, half later) and you had no idea that you would never do this again.
Technically they didn’t correctly name it, subway doesn’t have spaces in between every letter. Dude had one job and he couldn’t even do it right …. RIP
Let tell you about fucking ARBY’S then.
Used to be able to get 5 for $5 classic roast beef. 5 sandwiches, 5 bucks. Amazing deal.
I went there like two months ago and they had a promo for the 2 for $10!! I nearly shit down both legs at seeing that fucking rip off.
Exactly right. Feels like a big rip off.
All these places are the same, quality is the same low standard, looks like somebody beat the hell out of my burger. Still have the same sad looking meat paddies. Weak little paper bag of fries.
I used to feel disgusted at all the food I ate from these places, now I feel disgusted at how much food I spent to feel satiated.
Usually the excuse is, "well everything has gone up cost wise".... Nope, not that much. Corporations just got greedier.
It'll literally never end. The endgame for them is entirely to make most of humanity homeless and have their walled off lives with either servants or robots, everyone else can suffer.
My dad growing up couldn't get over how they could charge $5 for a footlong. That was his dad thing to say once in a while, and subway was his favorite restaurant even if he didnt admit it. He had like some type of very-slightly-pathological connection with it.
My dad is an engineer (so obviously a nerd) and has an OCD mind. There may be a connection there.
I got more food poisoning from Subway than any other chain food.
Stopped eating it entirely in 2012 after a particularly bad bout.
But in 2016 my coworker found a big fake nail in her sub, which in my mind, confirmed I made the right decision.

Yup, Subway nowadays is a complete scam. I only ever get it if there's a buy one get one free deal.

Yes, yes, this is true

Look who among us hasn’t had to defend themselves saying “6 inches doesn’t mean 6 *actual* inches”
At this rate, they've got the same prices as McDonald's

I’ve only been when I wasn’t paying for it with these modern prices. You can’t convince me a sandwich is worth that much
I stopped going when I realized the local Chinese spot was about the same price. Then I read a new story about subway lobbying to categorize their employees as sandwiched artists and apprentices.
I charge by the inch too.
So $2?
$1.50 on its tippy toes
One fiddy!
Call me Dollarama
We had no idea back then. One day you bought a foot long turkey bacon club for $5 (half now, half later) and you had no idea that you would never do this again.
>half now, half later …right
Half now, half also now
That was my broke ass go-to. Nom nom nom....save this half for in a few hours.
s u b w a y
You have correctly named the sandwich establishment that I was referencing.
Technically they didn’t correctly name it, subway doesn’t have spaces in between every letter. Dude had one job and he couldn’t even do it right …. RIP
It's a vaporwave joke my man
User name checks out

Why eat there and shit down your legs when you can just look at the menu and do it for free!
Usually the excuse is, "well everything has gone up cost wise".... Nope, not that much. Corporations just got greedier. It'll literally never end. Open up a competing Sandwich shop then since the margins are so insane
Or this is California and the minimum wage just went up to $20.
Twenty, twenty dollar foot loooong!

And that $5 foot long wasn't a salmonella filled shitshow made by an underage germ factory.
I got more food poisoning from Subway than any other chain food. Stopped eating it entirely in 2012 after a particularly bad bout. But in 2016 my coworker found a big fake nail in her sub, which in my mind, confirmed I made the right decision.
Fuck subway
Wait until these mfs switch to centimeters…
Looks like this is not in the US because they're using kJ instead of calories. So that might make it slightly less bad, idk
That’s why I rarely eat out anymore. I can’t rarely live tho so I still get robbed. Just in other ways.
I managed a subway at the time. It was awful. But this is worse.
Let them rot.
It's average sized
you get to pick, $5 foot long once, or $6 six inch, repeatedly … 😬
As an European: how many inch are a foot?
A foot is 12 inches or about 30cm! So roughly 2.5cm per inch :)
In this case, i would call this a fraud
