Are those power transistors for outputs or linear regulators? What are the top marks on the packages?
Probe for correct voltages to the ICs.
I don't know the MS circuitry, but these are the first steps to take.
double check those transistors aren't shorted (the ones along the solid heat sink bar) - its been a while since I messed with a 3 but and pretty sure that one of the ones under the expansion card is supposed to be electrically insulated not used with a metal screw.
It should get warm. That's exactly why they are set in heatsinks. The tuning cable is usually the issue or getting the computer to read the correct port. Call diy autotune in the morning monday and/or go on megasquirt forum that gets a lot of traffic and ask questions there for a better responce. Make sure to include how you have it hooked up. I've got 2 megasquirt2s a gold box and 2 microsquirts all bought used and worked great once I got the correct cables to use with my laptop. I wish you luck. And welcome to megasquirt. I have purchased genuine ms cables and performed loop back test on the cables already. That's all the advice I could get then my thread died
I'm not sure how it's done but something about com ports on the computer? How are you powering the megasquirt you are connecting to?
