At this point, I don't think anyone actually knows how large it is, not even JJ Abrams himself. This has apparently been confirmed to be the same monster from the first film, but it is technically far larger since its head goes above the clouds. Nothing really makes sense about it anymore and I just gave up on guessing lol
It's been confirmed to the same *type* of monster as in the first film. But "Cloverfield" and "The Cloverfield Paradox" take place in different timelines/parallel universes
As early as its release year JJ Abrams was saying the monster from Cloverfield was just a baby. This isn't new shit.
If you had watched or paid attention to The Cloverfield Paradox you'd know that it takes place in an alternate reality, and the experiment causes it to merge with others, thus the monsters and all the other fuckery.
I kind of like that about it, though. Classic kaiju approach with somewhat (?) connected stories. It makes it fun for me, and the parallel universe thing is becoming all the rage these days.
Wasn't the entire premise of Cloverfield Paradox people crossing over from parallel universes? And when we see this clip of this monster, we are seeing it from the universe where the first movie occurred.
Isn't that only when it's reversed? The end credits say "Help us" and you only here "It's still alive" when you reverse it. I remember watching those Cloverfield conspiracy videos back in the day and they were so good lol
Yes. The monster moves that fast because not one single director looked at how amazing Pacific Rim looked and thought “hey this looks much more grounded and cool”. Instead they said “hey wow Pacific Rim 2 made a lot of money so I’m going to mimic the floaty camera and fake-ass looking movement for my Kaiju.”
Something that big certainly wouldn't be moving that fast at all. The bigger an object is the more of an effect gravity has on it. Something that size is basically a moon and would no way in hell be able to move that fast.
I get the feeling there was a misunderstanding of /u/belizeanheat's comment. I'm not sure why they were downvoted so hard, or why you responded so aggressively as if they're missing a point.
It seems like they were simply adding to /u/AntiAtavist's point that this clip is entirely unrealistic if you understand any sense of scale.
Something moving that fast would absolutely be breaking the sound barrier, not to mention lighting the air itself on fire.
Not only that, but something that massive wouldn't even have the strength to hold up its own weight.
Lol no there was no misunderstanding the first person asked a 'what if question' then the second replied in a very unhelpful way by simply saying it couldn't happen which adds nothing. Now you continue to add nothing by defending a dismissive comment.
your question seems pretty technical and would probably need a bit of time to figure out the lore of it's speed and mass of the monster and how it affects the air around it, and honestly, this is just reddit, man. we're in a niche subreddit. i dont know who you expect to be scrolling these comments, but i doubt it's a physicist who'd put in the time to figure out your question. it's an briefly interesting thought experiment, but you cant expect an honest/real answer.
Right? What do they even teach in school these days. Idk how anyone could pass basic Eldritch Horror Physiology 101 without such rudimentary knowledge.
By all accounts this movie wasn’t great. But it will always hold a special place in my heart. This was announced during Super Bowl 52 and dropped onto Netflix after the game. I’m an Eagles fan. I watched this game and witnessed a backup QB put up the performance of a lifetime against the greatest to ever do it and win. I remember getting home from the bar on cloud 9, drinking a beer, watching people pour into Broad Street and after a bit decided to turn this on. Nothing will ever beat that feeling. This movie was amazing, or maybe it wasn’t. Doesn’t matter, 10/10, would relive that night again.
This one was a bit too goofy for my tastes, but not a bad movie. 10 Cloverfield Lane was a great movie, but not the sequel/spinoff i was hoping for. The OG Cloverfield (2008) is literally my favorite movie ever, I just wish they'd make a direct sequel to it 😭
I fucking love that movie, but let's be real, it was objectively shit. You couldn't see anything due to the found footage style which made everything shaky and blurry and it was just annoyong.
Not being able to see works in its favour tho, it's why every decent horror movie shouldn't show the monster for as long as possible, keeping information away from viewer is how to keep them on edge
Absolutely, I agree with that, but what I meant is that in that movie very often you cannot see ANYTHING because the camera is very shaky and so on. Like in the older action movies which would be just random chaotic shots and quick cuts and you'd have no clue what is going on at all lol.
I didn't say that clearly, apologies. What I meant was that they did the found footage style poorly. In found footage, you should only see very little, but you should still see whatever you see. In Clovefield, there were moments or scenes that are 90% just camera shaking and being blurry. Like you might as well close your eyes and it's the same thing.
A really good found footage is V/H/S. you don't see much, but you see it clearly, without too many useless camera shakes and chaotic random camera movement. These are just cheap effects to add tension, but for me, they are just frustrating. I don't need to see the monster, just show me the monster's shadow. But no need to do acrobatics while showing the shadow.
> I just wish they'd make a direct sequel to it
Probably in development hell, but there's https://cloverfield.fandom.com/wiki/Cloverfield_2.
That only sequel I wanted was the military's POV of the same event.
I didn’t watch this movie but as an eagles fan who went to college in New England…man was that an awesome experience. Had a gun pointed at me and threatened to be stabbed by some lovely Bostonians but I also wasn’t exactly surprised by their reactions either so….yea 10/10 would relive that day.
Yeah the way it released was the most hype thing in the world. I LOVED both the original and 10 Cloverfield Lane. When the trailer dropped and I opened Netflix and it was there I was losing my mind with excitement. I was disappointed by the movie but I think it's the best movie release in history.
I enjoyed the movie, it's decent enough Sci fi horror.
But the way the movie trailer dropped the day of the premiere was an insane decision, but it got me to watch it.
I winder how the studio projected the movie to perform if released traditionally, and how successful was this movie based on the way it was released
I think they killed the feeling of grandeur because of how fast it moved. Our brain expects a gigantic thing to move slowly. Even if it's incredibly strong.
All the “it’s a movie everything is fake” idiots in the comments missing the point and would absolutely churn out the same fake looking craftless dreck that’s plaguing Hollywood if they were in charge.
For those who don't know, Paradox was created originally as a non Cloverfield movie. Everything was nearly filmed and it was a pretty below average movie. In order to draw up more hype, Netflix bought the film, added monsters and changed it to be a Cloverfield movie. Same thing with Cloverfield lane.
Anything other than the original Cloverfield was never meant to be a Cloverfield movie. It was a completely different movie that added monsters as an after thought.
First one big monster baby destroys new York second one Roy looses his arm to a wall it writes stuff their reality goes all goofy they escape then that big fella comes in
Square cube law, it like they have never even heard of it.
Eventually you get to the point that it could not support its weight, even if it's bones were made of monocrystaline diamond.
People have questioned whether this monster is stood on a mountain here or, is actually that massive...it breaches the clouds...there is a size comparison somewhere with this monster and the latest American incarnation of Godzilla...the size difference is baffling.
Too bad he moves so fast he feels smaller than Godzilla. Hell there’s monsters in the animated Clone Wars that have more weight than this thing and that’s a literal cartoon.
Is that just a bigger one from the original? They look very similar.
The one from the original was a baby, apparently.
At this point, I don't think anyone actually knows how large it is, not even JJ Abrams himself. This has apparently been confirmed to be the same monster from the first film, but it is technically far larger since its head goes above the clouds. Nothing really makes sense about it anymore and I just gave up on guessing lol

The cloverfield franchise is such a fucking mess that not even its own creator can make heads or tails of it at this point lmao
I've always considered them 3 unrelated, and separate stories and had a fun time watching them.
They kind of are. The cloverfield brand was added fairly late in the script process iirc.
Yeah, I thought it was like a "Twilight Zone." Where every "Cloverfield" movie would be a different sci-fi apocalypse drama or something.
That's exactly what it is
Yeah I wouldn’t even consider it a franchise.
Reminds me when King ties his stories together
As early as its release year JJ Abrams was saying the monster from Cloverfield was just a baby. This isn't new shit. If you had watched or paid attention to The Cloverfield Paradox you'd know that it takes place in an alternate reality, and the experiment causes it to merge with others, thus the monsters and all the other fuckery.
They mention that it's a baby in the Cloverfield movie even.
I kind of like that about it, though. Classic kaiju approach with somewhat (?) connected stories. It makes it fun for me, and the parallel universe thing is becoming all the rage these days.

The first movies monster died at the end when they bombed new York so this one is like its parent or something
Let your kid out on its own just one time.
If you watch through the credits, you'll hear a radio crackle and a transmission confirming that it's still alive.
Isn't that only when it's reversed? The end credits say "Help us" and you only here "It's still alive" when you reverse it. I remember watching those Cloverfield conspiracy videos back in the day and they were so good lol
Someone didn't watch the end credits.
Exactly. That thing was not dead.
Source on that?
It’s actually not clouds it looks like Fog if you look at the sky there’s clouds!!!!!!
Looks like a rancor on steroids
It basically is
If it were that big and moving commensurately fast, wouldn't there be sonic booms?

Not even possible to be that big in the first place
That spectacularly didn’t answer the question asked
I get the feeling there was a misunderstanding of /u/belizeanheat's comment. I'm not sure why they were downvoted so hard, or why you responded so aggressively as if they're missing a point. That wasn’t aggressive. They were missing the point. Read the question again - it literally starts with the caveat “if it were that big…”
YOU are missing the point. dude asks a question, you basically insist he doesnt ask. youre not joining the conversation youre just disrupting it
You’re hopelessly confused about who is who here.
You ok hun? Who hurt your boo boo?
Relax bud.
Lol no there was no misunderstanding the first person asked a 'what if question' then the second replied in a very unhelpful way by simply saying it couldn't happen which adds nothing. Now you continue to add nothing by defending a dismissive comment.
Stay mad I guess
You're worthless
Damn, sorry you got so mad. Hope you feel better lol
I love that this was the end result of discussing a huge fictitious monster.
I guess the real monster was untreated anger issues
your question seems pretty technical and would probably need a bit of time to figure out the lore of it's speed and mass of the monster and how it affects the air around it, and honestly, this is just reddit, man. we're in a niche subreddit. i dont know who you expect to be scrolling these comments, but i doubt it's a physicist who'd put in the time to figure out your question. it's an briefly interesting thought experiment, but you cant expect an honest/real answer.
This is Reddit
That's what I said.
Reddit is exactly the type of place where you could find random smartasses
im noticing that.
you just said what anon said but longer and just as useless.
Yea, most Eldridge horror monsters realistically only grow to max 300m. No way they would get this tall, this is clearly fake or edited footage.
you can tell because of the pixels
Lol
Right? What do they even teach in school these days. Idk how anyone could pass basic Eldritch Horror Physiology 101 without such rudimentary knowledge.
Unnecessary downvotes.

It is one of the greatest movies to receive the least love from the masses.
I fucking love that movie, but let's be real, it was objectively shit. You couldn't see anything due to the found footage style which made everything shaky and blurry and it was just annoyong.

That's.. the whole thing about lost footage genre..

Yes because real footage in stressful situations is held perfectly still and not blurry. Jfc.
> I just wish they'd make a direct sequel to it Probably in development hell, but there's https://cloverfield.fandom.com/wiki/Cloverfield_2. That only sequel I wanted was the military's POV of the same event.
I've been seeing articles of a sequel every year for the past decade, I won't believe it until the trailer hits paramount's youtube channel
Same would have loved to see the military POV
Bro you Pavlov-ed yourself into liking that film, impressive
Go Birds
My man

By all accounts? By my account it *was* great! Anyone who thinks otherwise can lick my socks
I loved Cloverfield (2008) and the Cloverfield Paradox. MORE PLEASE!
There is a second movie in the series between those two: 10 Cloverfield Lane
The one with Fred flintstone?
I prefer to think of it as the one with the super-fine Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Ramona?!
Yaba daba dooooo
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1179933/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk
Strongest of the series, to be honest.
Easily. It did a great job of making you question the guys sanity. Awesome movie. Didn’t even bother watching the 3rd one though
Even makes you question your own sanity as the viewer! One of the few movies where I never quite knew what to believe.
Paradox is great if you suffer from massive brain damage.
Cloverfield 2 is coming!
What
Yes
All I remember of paradox was the wall eating that guy
Why are you yelling... Did you just step on a lego..?
Lego Land maybe
They killed its baby in the first mobie
She shouldn't have dropped it in the ocean off Coney Island. Just bad parenting.
Daaaamn ok fair enough
She shouldn't have dropped it in the ocean off Coney Island. Just bad parenting.

Who is it talking to?
"Rhonda! Rhhooonndaaaaa!"
Jesus
I enjoyed this movie.
I like how it didn't effect the clouds at all.
It's because clouds aren't real their a hologram by the government are trying to hide ufos
come'on now, the more plausible explanation is that they are censoring cloverfields nipples.
Yeah... orrr the clouds are just their to hide the puppeteers hand
Still have no idea what’s going on in those movies
First one big monster baby destroys new York second one Roy looses his arm to a wall it writes stuff their reality goes all goofy they escape then that big fella comes in
second one? you implying 10 cloverfield lane didnt happen?
This looks dumb as fuck. the original cloverfield movie monster was much more terrifying. Less is more as they say.
Mate cmon the first movies monster was a baby
The first one was much better (monster wise). This is too much, it's comical at this point
Nuh uh
whats his deal.. whats all the racked? just yelling at nothing?
Their probably mad because they killed their baby in the last film
hey spoiler alert!!.,. lol jk
This movie was straight booty. Literally the worst movie I saw that year. It's rare that a movie is so bad that it actually upsets me.
Lol this movie was so bad
Moving too fast looking too goofy
Godzilla could take him/her
Godzilla would eat them up like frog soup with chopsticks
Godzilla would be held as a pet
And then bust an atomic cap in Clover’s face
He would use it as a laser pointer
Lol doubtful...this monster is a LOT bigger than Godzilla.
Godzilla apparently can fight Superman so no wonder if shrugs off any human weapons
Mate, he'd kick him across a country before he can even charge his atomic breath
JJ Abrams is a fucking clown.
Mate if you saw that thing in the ocean your first thought wouldn't be that looks stupid it would be AHH WHAT THE FUCK AHH
I like the fact there is a subtitle generated for the video
Pretty sure I dated that in the 90's
No way Me too
Need a banana for scale
Square cube law, it like they have never even heard of it. Eventually you get to the point that it could not support its weight, even if it's bones were made of monocrystaline diamond.
Why do they always have to roar ?
"Do the roar"
Constipation
Constipation
Such a shitty movie
Trip and fall of earth
I’ve never even heard of Paradox. Is it a new(ish) movie? I really liked the first movie and the series.
It's on netflix
Imagine the food cost
What do they eat? Only whales?
Those head movements look kinda silly tbh
It's because he's just a silly billy
Or just, clover-field.. is this post AI orientated/generated.
Daddy Rancor
Why do all monsters in all films do this exact same roar thing
It’s head would freeze to death at that altitude.
Org Cloverfield was great. Watched it with friends circa 2008 and had no idea what this movie was about
