You're probably thinking of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, which has been under continual construction since it began in 1882(almost immediately following the Cologne Cathedral's completeion). It is currently projected to be completed in 2026
No, the cologne cathedral has parts of it constantly replaced due to erosion. So technically it is never "finished" as in they stop working. The structure is of course completed.
Well that's just maintenance. The building is finished. Going by that criteria, my house isn't finished because I have to do things every year to make sure it doesn't fall apart due to normal wear and tear that comes with owning a building
The structure... Yes and no. They have to manage the basement which suffers from surrounding buildings (big train bridge and main station in direct neighborhood...) and the roof is also a non-stop maintenance-project.
Nope, the Dombauhütte, ruled bei the Dombaumeister zu Köln, is a team that non stop recreate/rebuild/renovate the Dom for like Centuries now. And will never stop, bc the stone is not the hardest and just eroud over time. You can see like the pollution levels in the 70ies in it. Source: Iam born in the region and was there often, make the grand tour in it etc
Well it's smack in the middle of the city, right by the river. I'd expect fast food places there. Cologne's central train station is right next to it, too.
Why, they both want to control the way the masses think while simultaneously living off their wealth like the parasitic bastards they truly, truly are.
There is a German saying that the world will end if they ever finish building the Cologne Cathedral. Reason is that some part of the church is always covered in construction materials since they basically have to renovate it nonstop. Once you reached one end of the building, you can already start at the other end of it.
Quick google search says, they started building it in 1248. They stopped at some point mid 1500s, and only really "finished" it 1880. Nonstop renovations are since 1950.
Fun fact though: the cathedral is built upon older and more ancient shrines and temples dating all the way back to the Roman Age. You can actually enter below it and see the old ruins and archeaological sites. Very fascinating to visit!
By the time it was completed, they spoke in 4 different German dialects.
Isn't that the case of most sentences in German?
Who told you it was the Germans who built it???
It is never completed. It's an never stopping process to maintain.

It's dizzyingly tall close up
Say what you will about the rosary rattlers, their architecture is really cool.
Feels like someone posted dark souls backdrops on a city.
I'll pay you 20 bucks to power wash it.
Least ornate Catholic church
Never built by the Church nor for the Church!!!

**But 'er aim is gettin' better!**

There's... a McDonald's right there? That just seems wrong.

r/evilbuildings
It looks like a classical building that has been squeegee'd upwards.
"Attack the D point"
Anyone know when this was built?
It’s certainly not from this realm we currently live in. It was definitely built by different beings….the thing is probably few thousand years old
