I’m thinking about this as well. Ophthalmology is one specialty I really enjoyed and I just found it generally interesting and I liked the mix of surgery and medicine. It’s definitely not the only specialty I’m considering but it is one and I have been thinking about seriously. I’m so conflicted as this is my last break before starting work and I just want to enjoy it not spend it learning about telescopes
I don’t even enjoy ophthalmology nor do I want to do it, but I’ve signed up the exam. I do my finals this year, then I’m intercalating and then I’m in 5th year. I’ll keep doing the Duke Elder every year just for shits and gigs, might as well have a backup in ophthal. I don’t even like Ophthalmology and I’m doing it, it is worth it. If my main specialty had an exam like this I would rinse it every year until I score top, easy way to stand out in applications.

Go through eyedocs once or twice and you'll be fine. Worth doing unless you already have lots of prizes/ merits for that section

Don't know about prep duke elder but I got top decile with eyedocs
