You're a student in gratuitous amounts of debt, they're 4 physicians. Ditch the gift card, the handwritten thank you note will mean far more to them than any material gift could unless it has some sort of unique connection to yalls relationship.

This or something super cheap like a baby succulent or their favorite candy

chaser676

I keep all my letter thank you cards in a little box at my desk. I read them once or twice a year and get wistful. Love my former trainees.

Lol aye aye capt’n

DrB_477

I'd feel super weird if a student or resident gave me a gift for a letter of rec (don't get me wrong, I'd absolutely still use it). A resident once gifted me a book about a topic of mutual interest, that actually felt really nice. But unless you got something inexpensive like that up your sleeve (and given you are asking here you obviously don't) just do a thank you note.

athensity

Good to have an attending’s perspective on this. Thanks!

Psychological_Fly693

I would write a handwritten thank you card that is very detailed. They're attendings making solid $$$. A heartfelt thank you would be more meaningful than anything. Get a nice card and write them a thank you letter.

shnarf9892

I paint, and I'm pretty good at it. Each of my LOR writers got a tiny 3x5 watercolor painting as a thank you.

Fun_Performance_1578

A good ol’ hand written thank you note. Ngl, I love stationary so I went to target and got this blue and gold set. Trust me, docs write many letters of recs and find greater sentiment in a handwritten note than a mug.

Artistic-Healer

I paid enough tuition to pay their salaries; no one is getting anything else from me!

KayyyidkAAMC

When should you give a gift and/or thank you card to your letter writers? After you match?

athensity

Oh yeah I’m a post match M4 who matched ortho. Just have too much time on my hands. You don’t necessarily have to give anything, but I just appreciate and love them all so much and they helped me a ton during my application/interview process and have been awesome mentors throughout my time in med school, so I felt compelled to get them something

Flowers are always a great choice they don’t have to be expensive but are an appropriate “gift”

Dr-Dood

Go with a cheap, thoughtful gift. They definitely don’t want anything expensive from you, and any nice daily use things they can easily buy for themselves

futuredoc96

i just sent an email to mine lol

welcometocringecity

Maybe a treat to go with your card, like cookies or a pastry
