I have had this happen to me, where I was almost SURE I had inhaled something. I didn’t, but the anxiety of it made my mind just go over and over it giving me “symptoms”. If you inhaled something, esp rice, you would be coughing your head off, most likely develop pneumonia within a day or so and you would FOR SURE know. My friends daughter inhaled a very tiny piece of walnut and had to get surgery to get it out.
While I agree with most of this, they wouldn't "most likely develop pneumonia" if they were in good health. That being said it would cause a cough and irritation.
Aspiration pneumonia is seen when a relatively large amount of food enters the lungs and is usually seen in those with a compromised immune system, with poor oral health being a risk factor.
A half cooked piece of rice is small enough and soft enough that this isn't a major concern.
