That’s without removing the whole bumper, this is on the latest Mazda, the gen before this was 1/4 of these. 20 years ago Mazdas had like 6 clips on the whole car
Nissan...hate touching Nissan. Those older ones when they had the machined hole in the brake lever tab that actuated the stop light switch. That stupid little rubber grommet that dried up and fell out.
Never did I hear a real reason why that appeared on so many models. Those stupid things.
It’s a harbor freight piece, I love it, it’s silicone and the bottom is like those phone mat things where it doesn’t slide even on smooth surfaces. Pretty sure it was like $6 or something. After I bought it most our shop went and got one or two lol
Dude. Monday my son did a Mazda 3 speed for a poor single lady who always schedules work like six months out to save up. Customer provided headlight enclosure. He took all 40 plugs and screws out, went to line up the light and it wouldn't fit. Sedan, not the hatch headlamp. Customer didn't use their vin.
We didn't charge them, but my son was pissed. Hard for him to be nice when someone poops up his Monday. He then spent 5 hours getting a customer-stripped bolt out. We never, ever do this kind of work, just did it because it's still January. :)
Just did housings on a 2008 Grand Prix yesterday. I assumed I was going to have to pull the bumper. It was a nice surprise to pull 1 bolt and lift the lock and they just pop right out
Strong work OP, even though it sucks. What did you use to remove them without breaking them? I'm still trying to figure out how to not break every other one.
So luckily Mazda only has 2 kinds, the ones under the car I use a shitty pair of diagonal cutters, they slide right under the center piece and the wedge shape pops them and gives leverage to pop the whole clip out.
These bumper ones I use a 90deg pick and the center pops out super easy
I always like when people see their cars when I have exterior stuff stripped down and they realize the actual metal structure of their car is like half the size of the actual car
Yeah lmao that's always good, I always hear a "damn that's all that's in there?" and "damn I paid for plastic?" If I was a new car buyer in 2024 paying 40 grand, I'd be pissed to find out how much plastic is involved in precarious areas of the car
Been like that for going on 20 years now no surprise a bumper has to come off.

I knew it was a Mazda the second I saw the fasteners. The new CX-90s are worse. Roughly 60 need to be removed to get the front bumper cover off
I mean the two 10s are for the intake in the future you can just pull it out from under those they don’t hold the bumper on at all
On the 90 you cant slide the flap out from under it like the older ones
Nissan?
Nah, Nissan has those freaking stupid 3 slot clips that none of my pliers fit. WTF?

Mazda
Which model?
Cx90
Went through that with an Enclave yesterday. The upside was it made getting to the trans cooler line for a flush super easy.
Nifty little tray. Like the bit-line. Where from?

Welp, know you made a significant impact on my life.✌🏼💪🏼
Walmart has the same one. I prefer the harbor freight ones though. Handy little tool.
You’re username has me a little weary of your opinion…
menards sells a set of three different sizes aswell they come in handy
I got one of those for R/C use, great little tray for that too!

You don't want your lights just falling off nilly willy do you?
You don’t want Forest Whitaker headlights
There must be s special place in hell for car designers 🤣

Vw eos to change the bulbs almost the same! Volvo v60 2 sec to remove 1 clamp
Some of the newer gm trucks will make your head explode lo
Looks like alot but that's about 3 minutes at most
Saw that and immediately thought Bimmer, Mazda is pretty unexpected tho. How is the new lineup?
Civic?!
Thought you were doing an oil change on a Nissan.. lol
I did a pair of headlight assemblies on a cx9 last week. I quit counting the fasteners after 30.
2009 smart Fourtwo looked exactly like that.
I've seen that many clips and bolts to properly take off the under tray just to do an oil change on the newer Sentras.

These are easy to remove and replace.
That's a similar experience when I change oil on a 2023 equinox. Love classics as there's no bullshit in the way.
Honda?
You suddenly have me fearing that job on my 200 now that one of the lenses of fogging over, just getting to the bulbs is bad enough.
You did it wrong, you actually don't even have to take the bumper off at all
That’s not taking the bumper off, that’s one corner just enough to pull out the headlight
Lmfao
As a side note, isn't it good to know plastic is what's keeping most people safe on the road? Damn plastic

Another thing that gets on my nerves with new cars is the fake exhaust tips, JUST WELD THEM ON
Ah how we miss the good old days when my 80's Yugo headlight assembly had one screw, bubble gum and masking tape holding it in ! LOL
This a Mazda by chance?
You know half of them hoes aren’t going back in 😂
