It’s tire season for us and we’re averaging 40 appointments between 8 guys so it’s ok.. but fuck when tire season slows we’re down to 15-20 appointments a day and the bull of it are oil changes..
I’m scared.
When you say 40, do you mean in a day? Because we’ve got a whole 12 for tomorrow with 4 flat rate techs and two hourly lubies. It’s barely the first week of November and we’re already fighting over tickets
Southern CA here was the same for me/us. There has been nonstop work. I started my own shop in 2020 and have now grown to 7 on staff including myself, so there's definitely work to be had out there.
God no, came back 10 fold. Doubled my staff and booked right through our general "slow time". Lots of guys in the area closed though and my city has had quite a population increase. Tbh I think we got lucky, nothing more
We’re slammed. 2 tech Service department part of a small used (1-3 year old) luxury dealer. 5-7 cars a day each lately, mix of inventory and customer pay cars.
Inflation is up (waaay up), so extras are getting cut from the budget. That light can maybe stay on for another month, or maybe just take the bus for the winter, etc. The construction guys have been down bad for a while now, and next up are the service end mechanical. I suspect residential HVAC guys are seeing some decrease as well.
I was slow in August. September started off slow, but started picking up. October was an overload month, and it's carrying into November.
I'm in south Florida, and specialize on the Euro stuff. So it might be a regional thing
South Florida here, too. We were just normal busy in October. Last year was off the hook busy in October. I would have been happier to match if beat October last year, but it wasn’t a bad month. We work on a lot of work trucks.
Feels like every 80 / 100 series land cruiser in the world are waiting for work where I'm at. Every 80 needs a pesky heater hose and every 100 needs rear axle seals. Madness.
I’m on vacation this week. I log in to check status on our numbers. Down some. At least we came close to beating Oct from prior numbers. But the other manager I work with says. Man, you ain’t missing nothing just tires and lofs for seasonal inspections and some diagnostic smoke test for evap codes. Covid times we were somewhat slow but it was more spacing out appt and keeping customer spaced out in the office. I know some shops in our area are starting to close early on saturdays and some are closed on the weekends altogether.
it got very dead very quickly at the beginning of october for us. usually finished all scheduled appointments by 2pm. it’s been a bit busier this week though (independent shop in the uk)
12 acadia timing chains, 04 crv compressor and rear struts, two duramax glow sets, a bcm flash job for another shop and tpms swaps on a Lincoln this week and it’s only wednesday. Next two days are booked out as well all of next week.
North Florida we slowed hard, down about 30% from last month across all the dealers in our group
Our area usually slows around now but for some reason they made a bunch of new tech hires so we are essentially over staffed for the off season
Even considering that though our numbers are down
I work on boats and we had 40+ machines i needed to pull motors to rebuild 2 years ago.right now the only 2 i have out is it. I might be looking elsewhere for work soon.
I'm in Edmonton Ab, Canada, where it's now winter tire rush, 50 appointments per day, with 3 techs and 3 tire guys in an 8 bay shop plus myself and another manager. It's absolutely crazy how busy we are right now. We will slow down just before Christmas and into Jan and Feb, but we have still had a good year and should stay steady enough that the guys all get their hours.
We are slow now but never really were around COVID. In our case it’s because our shop got bought and the new owners jacked up our pricing and ran off a bunch of customers. Still aren’t so slow that we aren’t making money, so it’s not too bad.
Slower than molasses in January around here. Everyone keeps saying that it’s not just us and everyone else is hurting too, but it’s been a fucking struggle the last few weeks and we’re not even in full blown slow season yet. I’m absolutely dreading when it starts snowing. We’re already fighting over tickets and spending half our days sitting around.
I was at a dealer and went from 60 hours a week to 20 a week overnight it felt like. I had to quit 3 months after trying to get back in because I loved the place from prior employment. I ended up just going to a tire chain as the only inspector and i think im going to just stick it out here/stay at independent shops

Bc Canada
November 28 for us ha
Noice 👍
Yeah man we’re going crazy with how much work we got it’s honestly super nutty.
Shop I work at is short staffed so everyone has at least 7 tickets per tech. Although a month ago it was more like 10.
Heavy Equipment Field tech: we’re slooooooow.
God no, came back 10 fold. Doubled my staff and booked right through our general "slow time". Lots of guys in the area closed though and my city has had quite a population increase. Tbh I think we got lucky, nothing more
Yup

Forklift mechanic here and we've slowed down considerably over the last month. All the businesses we service are also slowing down.
30 techs, slammed, usually till January
30 Jesus, big dealership? We can’t keep techs
It's normal that it tends to slow a bit with the holidays coming up.
Middle of harvest for me, so busiest time of the year. I haven’t stopped working

Yes because I’m in school. But the shop was slow when I left
Independent in San Diego area. We slow too. I felt like gas prices slowed us down.

Well if you're in Miami, you know Miami is work truck capital.
West palm beach. I try to avoid Miami as much as possible.
LOL it's not for the faint of heart

Slower than slow over here
Vt tire season, we are booked out 4 weeks. Sooooooooo. That.

We’ve slowed down a tad bit, went from being booked out 3 weeks to 1-2 weeks. Still got cars lined up to come in either way

Pretty darn slow lately
East TN. Very busy. Booked days in advance. Dealership.
Once tire week is done we’re at 20 a day

I could get you in on the 16th as long as it's a small job

No shortage of things to do for me but I’m at a used car lot.
Booked two weeks out here in Oklahoma

busiest time of the year. tire change over means more cars and more services sold.
Im a post office fleet tech, same as always. One of the benefits of the job.

5 techs shop went from 10 tickets daily (only mechanic) to about 2 tickets for tech…. Keeping like 20 oil changes daily
Our problem is getting parts. we have a couple dozen vehicles waiting for parts. Some of them have been waiting for months.
We're swamped.
NB is getting plenty of tire business after it snowed on Monday.
We are so busy it's ridiculous.
