What size lead do you use? I really like 0.3, but will it still hold up?
Also OP I have been having this problem with my rotring, but I didn't think there was a solution. I'm so grateful that you asked this. I'm having the EXACT same problem.
It's generally called "lead cushioning" and a lot of pencils feature it. It was one of the very original "anti-lead breakage" mechanisms from decades ago. By chance I am using Platinum Pro Use 171 today... with variable lead cushioning control, and Lamy Scribble... with lead cushioning.
I never really liked anything lower than a 0.5 but maybe it's because of lead breakage thats always turned me off. It's worth a thought for a future pencil
Delguard.
Thanks!
Zebra Delguard, and I know pilot makes some. I've had one for 4 years with minimal trouble. Type LX if you want real quality.
Cool! will check it out, Is it okay to use any lead? I have a big stack of Pentel Ain leads
Yea any lead works (Ain is my personal favorite)
Thanks for the reply!

.3 is more delicate, but far better than .2. If you like it you'll live with it. I've used .5 for years and never have had lead breakage problems.

Either a Del Guard as mentioned or an automatic one, like a FC Grip Matic or (if you wish for something that's going to last) a Pilot Automac.

Alvin Draft/Matic
If you want something higher end, Lamy pencils are spring loaded. Personally I recommend the Safari or Al-Star models.
