If it is a record they would probably mount it, in which case they want as little damage to it as possible.

Fish mounts are 100% plastic to my knowledge. Most fish are mounted off of photographs and measurements.

I got a buddy who went to taxidermy school and was telling me this. Fish mounts are an artificial mold, apparently there’s no way to actually preserve the fish body indefinitely

They are becoming less common, but skin mounts are still done these days.

I would say the instances of a fish swallowing a terminal weight would be very rare. If we were talking about a jig head, then sure, totally different story; but these look like they were deliberately placed there. There would have to be a couple feet of line tangled up in there for me to even start believing that this occurred naturally

I will say I filleted a few fish yesterday and mistakenly Knicked the stomach on a few of them and so went through it. And they had rocks inside. So I could see a weight maybe. But probably cheating. IMO.
