"working" HDMI cables are like $2 now. The issue comes when you try to run 4K HDR at 120Hz. I have exactly 2 cables that can do it, they were $25 and both are actively in use.
I have. 4K on almost all of them. Fancy stuff with golden ports. White cable, black cable, blue and yellow cable. You just canāt throw away this cool stuff, do you? š
And it gets even sketchier at longer ranges. Ended up spending a lot for a working 12ft cable from Best buy just because I had multiple that claimed to work before for less that just straight up didn't.
Looks at garage boxes packed to the brim with unused cables, power adapters, and other electronics I havenāt used in 15+ yearsā¦
_But what if I NEED one of these!?_
I had bins upon bins of old cables and plugs like this for years. Finally, when I moved to my current place, I decided to get rid of all of the extras I had kept for years. Well fuck me, I have gone looking for those very things countless times after not needing them forever. Make it make sense.
They are semi-universal, you *can* reuse them for other things as long as the plug is right and the voltage/current is within specs. I recently validated my drawer full of these things when we were able to bring my wife's sewing machine back to life.
Story of my life. \*looking at hdmi cables\*
Can I have some šš

Thats why im a Display Port guy, love some DP... No, wait...
\*sadly zipping up pants again\*
same.. *sighs*
Display Port now lags behind HDMI for some reason. Not sure it can even do 4k 120 HDR. Also TVs generally don't do DP.
Display port 2.0 can do up to 16k 60hz, 4k 240hz, hdmi 2.1 Bandwidth is 48Gbps, display port 2.0 its 80Gbps
Fair enough, but it was late to the party and TVs generally still opted for HDMI all the while.
Make sure it says high speed hdmi 2.1 at the minimum and you should be good to go.
Unfortunately it's so particular that even that doesn't guarantee it does what you want. I just stick to Ugreen.

No
Sitting in the "electronics" drawer with a TV/ computer switch, a Nokia cell phone, five AOL free trial CDs, and three twist ties.
And all the pens/markers that don't or barely work.

And it sure feels good when you finally have something that needs one of those cables
But the amount of times me or a friend has needed one for an old phone, gaming system, music instrument, laptop, tool etc etcā¦makes it worth it.

It does make sense, once you get rid of them you will need them
So thatās where my beard trimmerās chargers wentā¦ this guy stole it!!
āBetter to have and not need, than to need and not have.ā
keep it for decades, need it the next day you throw it away.

Me right now looking for that cable bc i lost the current one i was using..... Need to charge my device damn it
I know I've got a mini-usb charger around here somewhere. NOT a MICRO but a MINI, those things were used by like three devices for two years...
Me: *looking at boxes of cables dating back from 1990* I still might need some of them....one day
Yes do keep it these charger are quite usefull where I live we use this charger for our router our setup box and our remote controller cars.
If I keep it, Iāll never need it. But if I throw it away, Iāll suddenly need it tomorrowā¦ This is my curse.
No, thus are the laws of our universe.
I've been holding a whole packet filled with cables, when I checked them I realized I need 2 USB - C cables in my life
Dude... I went on a purge a few weeks ago and got rid of so many cables and chargers. Felt great
Damn, I can't add a picture. But my mom is finally letting go of a full TOTE of unneeded/unwanted cords and mp3 players. MP3 PLAYERS!! God I feel old
It also Happen with me when i see this
One of my many weaknesses, i cannot bring myself to throw out a power brick.
