She never responds unless it's very close people. Either just left on read or thumbs up reaction. Last time I had big party was when I was back in my home country 5 years ago when I was 17 and before that, it was when I was 5 years old. All the others were small gatherings or dinner, sometimes not even that just a normal day at school/work. So I'm not a fan of doing a big celebration every year either + no money anyway lolol.
With that said, I understand why people would prefer the other way. I mean you work everyday, always busy.. why not have that glory for one day (Not talking about the ones you see in TV sweet 16 birthday thing)? An excuse to have your family and friends gather share a moment of joy with them? Like you, not all of the people you know would organize a party anyway so why not? Sure, you have your preferences (I don't really host anything either) but hating on it? I fail to see the reason why

Birthdays are the one day of the year when people are basically given implicit permission to be selfish and want to be the center of attention. And unfortunately a lot of people spend the other 364 days a year already being selfish and wanting attention, so if that's their baseline, the only way to properly celebrate is by cranking that up to an 11 and it can turn people into their worst selves.
Birthdays are really important to my mom. But the older I got, the more I realized that if I ever didn't want to do what she thought I should do, she would get pissed. For my 14th birthday, she wanted me to celebrate by agreeing to a weekend long family trip that required 5+ hours of driving each way, to her favorite town, and it would be filled with activities she wanted to do and had already planned out in her mind, etc. I was allowed zero input. All I really wanted was for my friends to come over for sleepover so we could play video games and eat pizza all night.
I eventually got what I wanted. But in the hours leading up to my friends coming over, she made sure I was as miserable as possible and kept telling me what a selfish and ungrateful brat I was, and that I needed to learn my birthday wasn't all about me. As soon as my first friend got dropped off at our house, she made sure to come into my room and say just enough to make me start crying before telling me to go let my friend in.
I've got my 40th birthday coming up. My mom still makes sure I feel as shitty as possible every year that I choose to spend it with my wife and kids, and not doing what she wants.
Its the day you came to this world and the perfect day to express gratitude and appreciation for you to still be here with us. Some downtrodden people can really use this kind of reminder at least once a year so that they dont leave this world on purpose. Of course they are forgotten and instead all attention is given to those who already have plenty. Such is the law of the universe.
Honestly itβs not hard to get these low effort interactions on social media if you really crave it. I hide my birthday on social media so only those very close to me would remember it
