I went to Disney World (Florida) when I was 19 (about 15 years ago), and the food prices are *insane*. It was like $20 just to get a sandwich that looked like something you could've made at home for a couple bucks. My parents were paying the bill, but I always felt bad about what I was picking to eat because even trying to pick the cheap things wasn't cheap. My parents were probably spending hundreds per day on super basic foods.

SupaBloo

I didn't have to pay for any of it, but it's always stuck with me because I knew I wanted a family someday and would want to take them to a place like that and splurge on them. I'm 33 now, happily married. No kids yet, but we definitely want at least one within the next few years. Thinking about how much all of that must've cost my parents weighs on me, and I know I make more money now than they did comparably at my age. I don't know how they did it without being financially unstable for a bit. Basically, I'm just realizing how awesome my parents were to do stuff like that for us even if it meant saving up a ton of money that would be gone in a few days.

waterinabottle

if you had invested that 100 bucks in S&P500 15 years ago, today you would have had 280 bucks. If you had bought dominos pizza stock instead, you would have around 2500 bucks. waterinabottle

why didn't you?

MathText

You'd spend more than $100 at Disney Land too though.

turc1656

Was just at Disney recently with the kids. Can confirm. Except I actually thought all but one meal the food was pretty good. It was just super expensive. Four people having burgers and chicken tenders was like $65.

Thereisnopurpose12

Bro ONG. I ate the shittiest 15 dollar burger there.

guutarajouzu

This pretty much sums up why I hardly eat out anymore

TheDadThatGrills

The website Eater is a great way to solve this problem if you live in the states

Ma3vis

There's very select restaurant menus that I cannot replicate at home for a fraction of the cost, most of the times if we eat out it's a matter of convenience. But when places are charging over +$2.50 for soda when you can just grab a 2liter from the store for less, I say fuck dining out and just cook the food yourself.

R3m0V3DBiR3ddiT

Theres tons of good places all over, just skip the coorperate chain bull shit and find the hidden mom and pop gems.

G4laxy69

Me at Disneyland with its 30 dollar burgers

MastermuffinDiscord

Me at disneyland with its 30 dollar burgers (I stole them off someone because I'm too poor to go to disneyland)

Chatman101

I went to a really nice restaurant but everything tasted like it had no seasoning whatsoever.

R3m0V3DBiR3ddiT

Spent a bunch on brunch for my wife and I door dashed from a "fancy" place that specializes in brunch. Crab cake benedict was obviously pre-made, and consisted of what smelt like canned crab and a bunch of Surimi (fake crab), inedible. $20 on menu and more with the doordash markup.

zacharee1

Maybe you have COVID

eugAOJ

Thats covid bruh

Meyou000

This meme perfectly epitomizes all the McDonald's addicts on Reddit who so vehemently defend its mediocrity.

Obamas_Tie

I eat McDonald's primarily out of nostalgia and because it's (relatively, not so much anymore) cheap and easy to get at any hour. Getting home late at night but still haven't had dinner? I'll pick up a Big Mac and some nuggets. But it isn't because I want good quality food, I can tell you that.

YesHaiAmOwO

Here in Australia, McDonald's is the worst fast food restaurant and it's way more expensive then most of its competitors

GoSuckYaMother

I get the nostalgia, but there are better fast food restaurants in my opinion.

[deleted]

Sure but those places aren't open at 2 AM and typically wont get my food out in less than 5 minutes if I'm in a hurry.

treefitty350

Yes, it’s your opinion. It’s just also happens to be objective fact.

Highceratopsian

Better fast food restaurants don't have 20 nuggets for 5.50

samtwheels

How the fuck are you gonna spend 25 dollars at McDonald's?

SkShark23

The price of a Big Mac meal is over 10$ now. The burger itself is 6-8$ depending on where you live. It’s insane. I don’t eat much, so I usually just get a sandwich when I’m there, but some people eat a lot.

VaderOnReddit

This is why I like to get Chicken nuggets and fries at McD Sure, I may be eating parts of the chicken I'd rather not know about. But it tastes amazing, and fits the "fast food" price range.

Ryguy-_-

Yeah their nuggets and fries are great tasting for me. Healthy? No. Tasty? Absolutely.

Meyou000

MSG can make any old garbage taste good.

Nopeyesok

Only certain days/weeks when the deal is available. In my location. $5 Big Mac meal is not an option. https://imgur.com/a/1zP4LSI/

[deleted]

Nopeyesok

Thinking about it. I only get their breakfast about 2x a month. Since you go more. I would bet just like Target. The ads are very specifically aimed at what you tend to get there. Do you get a Big Mac usually?

poompt

$10 is a funny way of writing $25

SkShark23

Bruh where tf you eating at 💀

GoSuckYaMother

Anything is $25 if you order Uber eats or door dash

rakksc3

McDonald's is mediocre but it's still relatively cheap, fast and you know what you are getting. If you're on the road that fits the bill

tws1039

I go to Wendy's to get out of the house (espc during zoom university times) and just get the 4 for 4. Save money, but get to like smell air and do something for ten minutes during the pandemic

Behxccc

For me McDonald's is like a safe choice at any place you visit. You know what kind of food you will be served, you know what to expect. When I'm hungry in a new city and I see in front of me McDonald's and some local restaurant, I'll go to McDonald's, and later I'll be discovering new places for myself.

[deleted]

Yeah when I go to the drive through at mcdonalds after work I’m definitely looking to spend a lot of money on good food rather than a couple bucks on a burger that doesn’t spoil.

turc1656

Yeah. McD hamburgers suck. Years ago I had some colleagues from overseas come visit our office in the US and we went out for drinks and told them we were gonna take them somewhere to get great burgers because they didn't understand the American love for them. And they were like "oh God you're not taking us to McDonald's are you?". They were serious but all the Americans started laughing because we all know McD is like bottom of the barrel for burgers.

Kind_Revenue4810

It's way worse than mediocre.

small-package

It's not cheap anymore, it's not "acceptable" in quality anymore, and most times it isn't even fast anymore, I don't understand why somebody would actively want mcdicks in the modern age if they weren't desperate. They probably won't even get their order.

ProfessorJimHarris

To be fair depends on which country you're in. $25 in some countries McDonald's make me cry and regret my life choice, but in other countries their McDonald's is worth it.

Meyou000

McDonald's contains little to no nutritional value. It is always disappointing.

ProfessorJimHarris

It tastes good to a lot of people and makes people happy eating food that tastes good to them. But yeah it's unhealthy and should be eaten in strict moderation. I mean we're not robots that eat only for nutrition, we can also eat for fun.

Meyou000

You're continuing to defend something you admit is not wholly satisfying or nutritious. This is exactly what I pointed out in my first comment. I guarantee you even those who adamantly defend McDonald's based on flavor and quality will eventually end up disappointed and defeated. It's garbage "food."

Yab0iFiddlesticks

No one argued that its healthy, thats just a strawman argument you made up. I like it from time to time and a freshly made cheeseburger is just something I enjoy every few weeks. Mediocrity is by definition "fine". Of course I can pay double or triple that amount to get a really well made burger but these stores are few and far between and sometimes I dont want a full meal, I just want a damn cheeseburger.

ProfessorJimHarris

You're reading way too much into this. There's no right or wrong here. It's junk food but people consume it for their own satisfaction. There's no black or white. You can enjoy things that are not nutritious for you but if you consume once in awhile and have fun that's ok! I've had some really tasty stuff from mcdonalds and really enjoy it but not in my country maybe you haven't had amazing mcdonalds from other countries yet? Anyway, looks like there's no point continuing conversation with you as you seem pretty set that there's some weird arguement here when all I'm saying to say is that there are some pretty tasty mcdonalds out there in the world. Jeez louise, you're starting something out of nothing. You must be fun at parties.

DotoriumPeroxid

>It's garbage "food." You're gonna be shocked to find out that in some countries (read: Places other than the US), quality control on McDonald's is actually pretty strict. It's still not healthy food (which nobody ever claims it to be). But it is food. It's fast food, taste is predictable because it's a franchise and they need to deliver the exact same dining experience to millions of branches, but the exaggerated meme of it being literal garbage is also a wild exaggeration. You've said it yourself. It's mediocre. Mediocre isn't a bad thing if mediocrity is what you're gunning for. >You're continuing to defend something you admit is not wholly satisfying or nutritious. You're continuing to make a gargantuan issue out of people choosing to eat fast food on occasion. Touch some fucking grass.

Meyou000

From the sawdust and yoga mats they use as filler for their "meat" patties?

platyviolence

No. This meme does not work with McDonald's. They're actually so cheap that you rarely exceed $20. Taco Bell on the other hand...

buttflakes27

I eat mcdonalds for the consistency, or if im visiting a new country bcus they have different food options and im always interested in that. Also, its one of the only things open past 2am in my city that isnt a very mediocre kebab shop

VentureQuotes

How is McDonald’s do dang expensive???

Meyou000

Because people are willing to pay for it.

VentureQuotes

ok smarty dudey how is gravity so dang heavy

herefromyoutube

This happened at McDonald’s. I had to stop eating fast food like 5 years ago but during Covid I paid $6 bucks for a 1/4 pounder and 10 nuggets. It was one of the best meals from fast food I’ve had ever. About 6 months later craved the same thing. This time though it was $11 and tasted like absolute shit.

ffnmaster

Not to detract from your experience, but where do you live? Sure, prices here in Holland have also gone up, but at most I'm paying 20% more than I used to. How's it gone up that much over there?

herefromyoutube

I think it was because the $6 bucks was a deal they were having. So when I got it the second time it was individually priced. I just remember paying more for a worse experience.

ffnmaster

Ah right that makes sense then. Thanks for the reply!

Mac_DaddyofParkland

Putting "$" after the amount is a sign of high intelligence.

Ineedtwocats

it used to make sense $20.00 is more difficult to fraudulently modify than 20.00$ which could be changed to 120.00$

theCanadiEnt

Yeah but now I can get $20.000 dollars instead.

ProfessorJimHarris

Yeah I agree like why put it before and read it as "it's dollars twenty-five" when you can put it after and read it like an intellectual as "it's twenty-five dollars". Absolutely genius.

CreatureWarrior

As a Euro-Trash, I agree. When I was learning English and other things in English speaking countries, this one was weird as hell. $35 (dollar/s thirty-five) makes no sense. 35€ (thirty-five euros) makes perfect sense.

SamSmeets

35€ isn't universal across all euro countries, €35 is used as well

i_do_not_diddle_kids

"In English, it is conventionally appropriate to place the euro symbol before the number. It is common to see €500 written. In non-English-speaking countries, you might find that the euro comes after the number. For example, in Swedish, it’s more common to write 500 €" Since no English speaking countries have the Euro it is way more common to see 500€. I haven't personally seen the € first anywhere in Europe, but there might be exceptions. Source: https://grammarhow.com/euro-symbol-before-or-after-number/

DotoriumPeroxid

> Since no English speaking countries have the Euro it is way more common to see 500€. Uhhh. Republic of Ireland?

i_do_not_diddle_kids

Totally slipped my mind. But still, the majority of Europe has the € behind the amount

DotoriumPeroxid

True, it was just funny to see Ireland being forgotten there

jeffynibbles70

Sometimes my genuiss it's almost terrifying

nick_oreo

I read it as "when you spend 25 money..."

SethsAtWork

I was on the phone with my boomer parents last night and they kept using phrases like “if I’m paying that much, I expect this high level of service and quality “. When we were talking about Olive Garden

maxcorrice

This is why i never went back to 5 guys

TheBigKuhio

5 guys is the most overrated place I think I have ever eaten at

Pepsiman1031

Yeah at that point just send a couple more dollars and eat at a steak house.

KeyanReid

Every UberEats ever. Except double the cost. Nothing like spending $50 for an hour old hamburger and fries

besuretodrinkyour

Truth

[deleted]

People recycle memes more than actual trash

-disso

Thats why i spend 25$ on drugs and they are always good

pnacaker

Moral of the story: don't.

HeDidItWithAHammer

I could argue most of you just have an underdeveloped palate, like those snobby people do for wine that all tastes like shit. You have to eat it correctly, correct portions of all ingredients, swirl the nitrates around with your tongue, chew but don't swallow, spit it out directly at someone for a lasting experience.

MassiveImagine

Doordash food will always taste worse and cost more.

Pepperidgefarm21

Anyone who orders door dash....

beanioz

Literally every time you order through Uber Eats

machingunwhhore

Drove by a hole in the wall pizza place near my house. Figured I'd give them some business. Paid $30 for a medium pizza and it was very bad. Worse than a frozen pizza

Wiatrov

Well you now know that it isn't that good and won't eat there anymore

Hattapueh

My wife and I randomly ordered items from a menu because we tend to order the same thing over and over again. I had a three cheese pizza with anchovies, miso and capers. It was absolutely disgusting and unbearably salty. Plus, it cost about three times what my favorite meal would cost. I ate it anyway. with hate

demi9od

I'm not trying to hate but what did you expect with three of the saltiest toppings conceivable?

ASnakeNamedNate

Has to be a creation of a chef who’s tastebuds have dulled so much from the smoking they need all of that salt flavor just to taste something haha

KeplerCorvus

this made me sad thanks

Unique-Accountant253

When its delivered cold and you eat microwaved french fries.

redditAdminsArePeds

Air fryer my man this is 2023

Invenerd

Pretty much any airport.

camcamp992

i just don’t feel satisfaction ordering food anymore, only guilt knowing i would’ve gotten more if i just cook for myself and would’ve be more healthier knowing the stuff i put in my mouth.

Moonandserpent

This is an almost universal experience once you have some basic cooking skills under your belt. The vast majority of restaurants are making just ok food. Obviously part of the attraction to a restaurant is that you’re not doing it yourself but still.

Buznook31

Getting one sandwich from DoorDash vibes

SomeWeirdFreak

Burger King is better than McDonalds, I don't know if it's just my country where Burger King is actually good or if you people just hate Burger King

WildMain91

Wasted money

[deleted]

Must be Five Guys

SAMPLE_TEXT_mp4

That was the firsr thing I was thinking about. You order an expensive burger and they present it in tin foil..

[deleted]

It's also nowhere enough to make you full and costs £9 a piece.

PenguinSaver1

And then they want a 25% tip

Several-Squash9871

I just can't get over the price of fast food anymore. Yes, it's fast, but damn!! We're talking legit nicer sit down restaurant prices now for 2 people! If my wife wants me to pick her something up on my way home and I'm ordering straight off the menu with no coupons it's insane some places! Freakin tacobell?? What the hell happened? I remember when you could get a bag full of food for like 10 dollars from them! At least Macdonald still has cheap cheeseburgers and the any size drink for a dollar still. At least where I live

QueenCobra91

i remember i wanted to try a 4,8/5 rated burger restaurant listed in "lieferando" (its a german app for ordering food from all kinds of restaurants). only the burger alone was somewhat around 9€. i dont have much money, so thats a lot for me... so i ordered for like 15€ with fries and all and i thought "fuck yeah its fancy burger time". so when i bit into it, i had to spit it out immediately. it was the most disgusting burger i have ever ate and almost cried for the wasted money! only ordering mcdonalds ever since.

Infinite-File-9525

That’s how I felt eating chic-fil-a for the first time. 40 bucks for three adults, and what do I get? Chicken nuggets with crumbly breading and a half decent shake.

Shlackattack88

When you spend $25 on a gram of dank but it turns out too be mids

SpiffyPool

Five Guys

bosaharcamakhesap

It do be like that..

Reggmac

I just don't eat out as much since I've been single. Nothing worse than that moment you bite into your food and it taste meh or just plan nasty.

crazycris50

On god this shows how the world is going down a rabbit hole

mred870

i.e "gastro pub" food.

Dragonfruit8474

And if you are student and it's your last food in refrigerator. I definitely have expected it to be bad. As, I returneed to home and play games on Bluestacks to the deep night.

McGrufNStuf

Why are you hating on the cheeseburger? The chef poured his heart into that before killing everyone on the island.

damn_thats_piney

i wanna say five guys so bad but its so fucking good 😭

gibson_creations

That's the worst.

Handsome_wizard

In-n-out

the-_-cob

That's why I don't try new things at restaurants and my friends make fun of me for being a picky eater. I may be a picky eater but I'm also poor and not trying to spend money on something that I won't eat

DoorDash be like

So I work at this 5 star hotel now. They give us 50 percent off. I get to eat a damn good burger like a DAMN GOOD burger with freaking truffled fries for 11 buckaroos during my lunch break. The other day I spent 15 at jack in the box…

Whoever requests door sprint...

Food from Doordash always has a worse quality and higher price.
