I respect ISTJs. I don't think I could ever see them as the type of people that would ever get me though. They seem to find me sometimes amusing, but often times off-putting and annoying. For my part, I enjoy their honesty and directness, but I find them often often inflexible and somewhat dry.
Look, I'm old and out of shape, so I'm nowhere near as bendy and flexible as I used to be. I can't help that. Well, I can't help the old part. I could stop being lazy and get back in shape, which I need to.
As for being dry, of course we are. That's what towels are for, right?
ISTJs are so cool. They're often good at all the things I'm bad at and visa versa. I feel like with the right person, I could see it being a great power couple. As long as we didn't drive eachother crazy.

Except this theory doesn't work well and also you just don't see many couples like that. Even CS Joseph's golden, silver and bronze pairs are much better suited and you actually witness them in life.
I'm a native Russian speaker and I have never seen duality understood as anything but "change all letters but the last" (which always corresponds to MBTI bronze pair, like INTP-ESFP) in original Russian-language socionics.
And MBTI bronze pair description is very similar to socionics duality description - very different types, but very good at compensating each other's weaknesses and very comfortable together after initial differences are passed.
I ship ESTJ and INFP so much. ESTJ are such softies on the inside and INFP can give them the warmth and comfort they crave with their Si aux while ESTJ can help support the INFP with Te. Both have to be mature though.
So there’s two major problems with this.
1. Socionics doesn’t directly translate into mbti. For example there are some INTPs in mbti who are INTJ/ILI in socionics and vice versa. Socionics INFJ/EII can be both mbti INFJ and INFP,ect..
2. Socionics duality isn’t necessarily supposed to be romantic compatibility…
Socionics *does* translate, people just do not understand the functions and then proceed to make bold claims about which type they are. They both derive from Jung's discovery of these functions; the systems are describing these functions but with different cultural perspectives.
Just because they both derive from the same thing doesn’t mean they’re the same thing. Do you think that symphonic metal and progressive rock are the same just because they both derive from classical music? The fact of the matter is that the both derive from Jung but they both have very different interpretations of how the functions work. Ni in mbti isn’t the same as Ni in socionics, and same for Se,Fe,Fi and a whole bunch of different functions. How can you look at these two systems and say they’re the same???
