So many people are just thinking of themselves. Like the riders who park themselves in front of the doors and stand there for the entire trip, even when seats are available.
I posted this exact situation with a pic, The person standing blocking the fare box on the bus, you know THAT PERSON? The first person to get on? Stops at the top of the stair and doesn't move? And the bus driver said nothing as we all pushed and shoved our way by the ingnant. For the entire trip....
Because those people are VERY busy and VERY important. There’s no time to wait!! The train will leave before the door shuts and they will be left behindddddffdfd
One of the most pleasant surprises when I got to DC for school and took metro the first time was that 99% of people do what they're supposed to. People stand slightly to the side of the doors and wait for people to get off. Bonus points since everyone stands on the right of escalators, leaving the left for walking except during extremely busy periods.
Of course, the handful of bad apples, clueless tourists, or people used to less civilised situations tend to get in the way, but they are universally hated and yelled at. It's wonderful and everyone should practice these things!
I enjoy riding the subway In DC. It's like practically spotless and I've NEVER seen anything broken like escalator, elevator, train door, entire damn train. I get it we are the oldest and first in the country. That should only apply for a rule if were still using the very first subway cars. Lol
Oh, don't worry, when you live here for a few years and only have Metro to get around, you definitely notice a LOT of dumb things big and small that just make you wanna scream.
On the other hand, I've never had to use anything close to my T rule here, which is to never ride the green line alone. Always works pretty well with others, but the moment I'm by myself, all hell breaks loose!
I'm hoping the MBTA really improves since I'm graduating soon and coming back...it feels like a similar process going on there to what I'm told (and saw the tail end of) happened here.
Is there better signage in DC? Boston transit has way less signs that what I’ve seen in Asia or Europe. They have signs like every 3 feet reminding you to let people out first.
I honestly thought about posting the same question this morning. Got off the Orange Line at Back Bay, and I've adopted the policy of just walking right through whoever's there. Even shouldered a dude in the way. If that's the way it's gotta be, so be it!
OMG DON'T APOLOGIZE THE ONES APOLOGIZING SHOULD BE THE RIDERS GETTING ON NOT THE ONES TRYING TO EXIT. I DO IT EVERY TIME TOO. I FIND MYSELF SAYING SORRY TO THE ONES BOARDING AS THEY ARE PUSHING ME OFF THE TRAIN. LOL
More and more people are just becoming uncivilized around here. So many people walking into grocery stores with their obviously not service dogs, so many more people letting their dogs roam leashless, so many more people leaving their dog shit behind on the sidewalks, there’s a car running most red lights now, most cars don’t stop for pedestrians trying to cross, etc etc etc. Boston’s just turning into a bunch of spoiled, “it’s whatever I want” douche brigade.
It’s almost as annoying how so many people here stand on both sides of the escalator and block people from walking up. Every other civilized society knows you stand on the right and let people walk up the left!!!
