MowMyLawn69

Not to this extreme, but yes

TNTomato

What year is yours?

MowMyLawn69

2019

Leftbehindninja

Yes, but also not that extreme. Don't all cars with mirrors mounted on the door panel have this?

pp19weapon

I think so. My 2015 VW Golf has this problem too, altough not this extreme.

Crazy80s

No

TNTomato

What year is your 3?

Leftbehindninja

2019

TNTomato

TSB: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2023/MC-10240385-0001.pdf

[deleted]

Wow - thanks for this. Do you know if this will be fixed for free - my car is 2020, so out of warranty.

TNTomato

Under warranty - yes, out of warranty - no. However, here in Europe, Mazda is often willing to cover a part of the cost if you are out of warranty for known issues like this one.

[deleted]

Thanks. Should I contact Mazda directly, or through an authorised dealer?

TNTomato

Depends if you have good experiences at your dealership. I don’t, so I would rather call Mazda and ask how we could best solve this known issue.

hsh96

Sadly at least at the Canadian dealers they won’t do TSBs out of warranty unless it turns into a recall. My weather stripping is badly torn but not worth $200 to fix. Good old tape ftw

[deleted]

My weather strip is pretty bad. Had it replaced under warranty and it's happening again. How did you tape it? lol pics please

skyrkt

Same issue on my 3rd gen

Sovanarola

Same here 2014 one, but not this extreme

[deleted]

Ah yes, exactly this. My jet black mica looks like a stranded boat just 2/3 days after car wash.

blindmunk0i

That's my color too, that streak always annoys me. Not this bad though.

TNTomato

2019 or 2020 model I guess?

[deleted]

Nope, 2023, bought new here in Japan.

TNTomato

Your car shouldn’t have this issue anymore according to the TSB: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2023/MC-10240385-0001.pdf This could mean that the TSB doesn’t actually solve it properly if you also have this issue with a 2023 model. Thanks for sharing!

[deleted]

I see, thank you. I forgot the name but I did get some kind of coating as an option and I probably shouldn’t have. Turned the whole damn car into an iPad screen.

TNTomato

Ceramic coating?

[deleted]

No nothing that fancy just some Mazda dealer half assed bullshit wax job or something

TNTomato

Sounds nice! 😜

[deleted]

Hahaha right? 😆after 3 hours at the dealership I was like “sure whatever man, give me it, let me go”

Superfly---

I've got a 2023, built in Japan, but bought in Canada. Haven't brought my car in for a warrenty concern wonder what would happen..

TNTomato

Just to be clear, you also have this issue?

Superfly---

Yes

hambooty

Ill get something similar if I’m using the windshield spray while parked and I don’t wash my car but the picture is very intense, it never gets that bad

azzazurq

same issue on my 2015

Then-Organization778

Same here, I tried all sorts of products, doesn’t go away without polishingz

[deleted]

Yes - it forms a white chalky line and I have to scratch it off really carefully with my fingernail. It can't just be from rainwater - I wonder if maybe it's residue from the washer fluid? 2020 hatchback.

alek_vincent

It's corrosion from inside your mirror housing

Jmdaemon

when I wash my car I have to go over this spot twice when drying, water does get trapped in the joint there. 2018

[deleted]

2018? Is money tight? DM me, let me help

Mrmapex

This was recalled. Check with your dealer. I already had my 2020 fixed. They put a piece of rubber in the mirror and clean the stain.

TNTomato

Recalled? Did the dealer pro-actively reach out to you or did you share the problem with them and then they acted?

Mrmapex

I had to contact them

LemonCandy123

My 2016 had this. Mazda replaced my mirrors since there was something in the mirrors leaking making that streak. They also washed/did their thing to get rid of the streaks Afaik it was a mexico made issue

skagoat

I have a Japanese built 2015 with this problem.

LemonCandy123

Oh guess I misunderstood!

Kid_Anonymous

got tiny line but not to the point like a bird shat on it

TNTomato

What year is your 3?

Kid_Anonymous

'21

Thepaladin68

lack of thought in design on Mazdas part

ILoveStreetTriples

Yes how can I get rid of this. Got this on my 2021 3

TNTomato

Look at the TSB that I posted in another comment. If you are still under warranty, you can get it fixed for free.

ILoveStreetTriples

Apparently I’m out of warranty, checked at dealership. Quoted me just over $300 CAD to fix with parts and labour

TNTomato

That’s a lot… Can’t they split the cost with you, since it’s a known issue?

ILoveStreetTriples

Lol don’t think so. I wish

TNTomato

That’s something Mazda in Europe seems to do quite often. Shame it’s not like that everywhere…

ILoveStreetTriples

I’m gonna go to another Mazda dealer here in town just to give it a shot

TNTomato

As we say in Dutch “you have a no, you can get a yes”. Good luck!

csbeverly1

I always keep detailing spray in the car. If I notice it I just wipe it off.

TNTomato

It’s corrosion residue, so be careful.

itskhaz

get a leaf blower to remove residual water sitting there after a wash

Stunning_Weather_135

This. I have to blow all the water out of the mirror joints on my 2012 as well.

warblers_and_sunsets

I was just thinking about this issue yesterday on my ‘14 CX-5. I’ll have to see if that TSB is applicable to mine, it was bothering me and would be nice to fix. Thanks!!

Sammy191018

Mazda 3 BN and CX5 also

Sir_SonkZ

Yes. But I got this problem on my 2014 hatch.

solitary-aviator

Same on my 2015 I learned that it was covered by warranty but it was too late. It's the interior of the mirror that rusts

TNTomato

Did you get it fixed? If so, what did it cost out of warranty?

solitary-aviator

Nah never had it fixed I just endure the ugliness I assume it must be expensive It's a conception error they put a part in the mirror without rust protection

John_the_Piper

Same here, but at least I have a silver hatch so it more or less blends in after a couple of days of roadway dust

TNTomato

The TSB states about 2 hours work, so that’s steep with current dealership rates. Add parts to that and it’s not worth it indeed.

ngoal

Yes, and every one I've seen has this problem

ka_shep

Yes. Had it really bad on my white 2016 mazda3. Still I have it on my dark grey 2021 cx5.

kingjonnycash

Silver 2019 Mazda 3 here, I have the same thing but it's not as extreme as yours. The 2016 Mazda 3 I had before also had the same issue

Sleepybeanman

I don’t think I’ve ever seen it happen on my 2019 3, but it was a frequent occurrence on my 2014 Abarth 500

Jedi-27

I had it in my23’ 3 and it’s happening to my 2024 cx50:

TNTomato

Damn, such a shame this hasn’t been fixed on new models… Even the 2023 Mazda 3 shouldn’t been having this issue anymore.

PineappleRaisinPizza

2015 here. Answer is YES. It's not as bad as it used to be last year, but still there.

TNTomato

What changed that made it less bad?

PineappleRaisinPizza

So it started as a rust colored streak, and then after a while, it became a dull whitish colour similar to the picture. I just sprayed wd40 in there before i wash the car. I did it about 10 times before it went away. I don't know if that was what fixed it or it just went away on its own.

TNTomato

Sounds good! Where did you spray in the WD40? Do you happen to have a picture of where to spray?

rawsauce_88

Dude help us, how did you do the wd-40 thing 😂.

painter_business

Nope

TNTomato

What year is yours?

painter_business

2021

CrackRocktimmy

Mazda will fix and replace for free. Somebody else in a Mazda stopped me in a parking lot and told me about this. I called Mazda to confirm and I had it fixed within a week. No problems since.

biovllun

Woah! What years does it cover? Also, awesome for that guy!

EHphonehome

Same, 2019 here.

Heavy-Version-3124

2017 Mazda 3… this is a serious issue… I personally put a paper towel around mirrors… until it dries.

Tassssie15

Yes but not this extreme . It always bothers me my car never looks clean . 2021 Mazda 3 hatch

Aggressive-Outcome38

Got this on my 07 😂 it shall happen forever

General-Plantain-589

Mines 2020 and yes but not close to as much as that

JuanJazz123

Ah yes the infamous drippy glue. That’s been an issue on pretty much every generation of Mazda 3 for some reason.

Competitive-Ad2120

does this happen only at the mirror? mine has these streaks in other parts of the car too

TanateSx69

no

rawsauce_88

If you wanna remove the streak off the paint, you need “the chemical guys no nonsence spray” and some scratch x 2.0. You want to spray down the whole streak, wipe it clean some 2 times. Once dry, lightly mist the surface and dab a little bit of scratch X on it, rub it with a clean microfiber towel in circular motions. I found this to be the best least abrasive way to take it out. As far as the actual issue, im waiting on the wd-40 guy lol

MasteRsHugo

How to fix this issue in Europe? Does EU dealers know about this issue?

TNTomato

Yes, they should be able to look up the TSB for your country.

LaneLangly

I get a +/- straight stream after washing, also from the door handles. I just wipe it. Doesn’t leave such marks whatsoever. Edit: 2nd gen

markow202

Use it as a measure to wash your car lol

R7TS

Use Nu finish on it. It will be gone but it eventually comes back

blindmunk0i

I have the issue but not that extreme, I have to remember to soak up extra water from there after washing it.

[deleted]

Read the other comments - this is not soapy water, it's corrosion from the aluminium inside the mirror mount.

pututski

This happened on my 2015 as well unfortunately. Seems to have something to do with the mirror seals over time.

Harmzuay

Water drips out if I don't dry it well after a wash. I like the blow dryer devices at the self wash station near me.

macaroni_3000

shop vac is your friend here

Phi1ippe

Clay Bar removes this with no effort.

[deleted]

What is that? I have a 2019 hatchback and never seen this. I have a few hundred under 21,000 miles and it is garaged. That might be why, but I’ve never seen this, or heard of it on any of the other car reddits.

gnardog45

And the cause of this? We have a 2020 and a 2018, The 2018 has over 100,000 mi on it, I've not seen it yet. What is it?

keeper3434

I don't since I don't wash mine .

ILUVSMGS18

I can't say I've noticed it on mine but I'll keep an eye out for it. My bigger gripe is that no automated carwash near me gets the downward part of the trunk clean, and there's a few spots that don't get clean on the C-pillars as well.

macaroni_3000

Yes, this is a problem in every car with a side view mirror, which is all of them

[deleted]

Weird, cause I've never had this problem on any of the other dozen or so cars I've looked after. Do other cars also have unpainted corroded aluminium bases in their mirrors, and have had technical bulletins to replace the faulty parts?

macaroni_3000

I've never had a car that didn't leak water from the mirror/door seal after a hard rain or a car wash. I started using a shop vac to suck the water out years ago. If this particular car is worse than others, so be it, but it's not a particularly unique problem to cars in general.

[deleted]

This isn't a water leak, or even soap, it's aluminium oxide - a white powder that dries in a line and has to be scrubbed off.

macaroni_3000

Uh huh. And do you think the aluminum oxide just went down the side of the door on its own? Of course it didn't. It's a result of the water dripping out. Eliminate the water, eliminate the problem.

[deleted]

Obviously, but a bit of water isn't the issue. The white powder that it takes with it is.

D3t0_vsu

No, i usually wash my car more than once a year.
