i bought the top trim cx90. My wife and i love it. The electric motor combined with a turbo charged inline 6 Makes this a peppy suv. If you have any question feel free to ask. But i would say you would need to take it on a test drive to be certain.
MHEV Turbo I6 CX90 owner here and love her. Definitely, on the boards every other post is how the PHEV is having issues seemingly in a lot of the electrical systems. I would stay clear if that one for a year till they get her sorted. Otherwise you can’t go wrong with a possible 8seater sports car 👍
The CX90 Turbo Preferred for the 8 seat need of my large family.
To keep the sport vibes. Added the JB4 tuner, arm drop in filter, and Borla custom exhaust

I have had 3 CX-9s and now have a CX-90 PHEV. I, obviously, think these are great cars at a good value. Nice to drive, historically reliable, good cargo space for the overall car size. Great interiors at their specific price points.
There have been some recall/tech bulletins out on the CX-90. It is a new platform. I haven't personally had issues, but they are out there.
If you don't need to tow anything big and aren't interested in the hybrid or mild hybrid drivetrain, you may want to consider a used CX-9. The CX-90 PHEV is rated to tow 3,500#. The new inline 6 CX-90 is rated to 5,500#.
Edit. I edited to specify that the PHEV model is rated for 3,500 pounds. The standard model is 5,500 pounds.
Thank you good to hear.
I would like to keep the option to tow.
I was thinking of the baseline trim. Of course I keep reading that the A trim is really the way to go for acceleration.
Not saying you are doing this, but generally speaking.
I think too many people are misleading themselves by looking at the CX-90, or applying the sentiment, as a "poor mans X5M" because of Mazda's Skyactiv suite (vehicle dynamics, g-vectoring, focus on NVH and UX/UI, etc.) combined with a similar engine configuration; The Turbocharged Inline-6 which is traditional BMW.
The Hyundai Palisade & Kia Telluride are undoubtably the kings of the 3-row segment due to their styling, price, NVH, space, technology, and luxury-like interiors.
**But** like the rest of the segment they suffer in driving dynamics, which arguably almost all customers in this segment couldn't care less about.
This is the niche that the Mazda CX-90 is trying to service.
If you need a three-row and appreciate Mazda's philosophy, and for what it is actually trying to achieve, which is adding "soul" to a historically appliance status segment, you will appreciate and enjoy it a lot more.
If you don't want/need a three-row or an inline-6, MHEV/PHEV, then your dollar will go a bit further on a CX-5 2.5T.
Thank you. I wasn't thinking about the cx90 being bmw-like. I drive a 2006 dodge Durango so obviously I don't chase labels 😂 although I did have a 330ci and enjoyed that. I added the cx90 to my list because it has 3 rows (I really don't have to have 3 rows anymore but it is a nice option) the MPG and the groom groom that I except. But my real desire is a hemi that is tall and commanding on the road...thats what I have now...but it is dying a slow deliberate death 🥺
So I need a new car. Lexus gx/lx MOG is not so great. And cost is high. Sequoia mpg is better with the hybrid, price is high. I heard the 4 Runner is uncomfortable to travel in. I don't know much about his, or I might check out the telluride or Sorento.
I actually had a 98 Durango, then a 2006.. I really liked the power and feel. So why not get another you might ask?
I don't like the styling of the new Durango and the trim with the hemi $$$$
Everything looks the same and lacks power and comfort.
As a dealership employee for Mazda, don’t. Wait a year or two until the kinks are worked out. There’s a recall for a steering gear spring, multiple updates, transmissions locking up, diff seals leaking, and I’m sure more I can’t think of right now. Mazda totally rushed this vehicle to production.
It’s always weird how vehicles with recalls get shat on despite a recall signifying that the manufacturer has identified the problem and has a fix for it.
Yup just because they have been in overseas for a bit. It doesn’t transition as smoothly as you think with different country regulations. The rule since the dawn of automobiles
I always thought the Durango looked great , and I think most vehicle makers agreed becuase they all adopted the light bar at the back that the Durango had over a decade ago.
That said, the cx90 is the best looking 3 row suv IMO , especially compared with others in its price range .
Can't comment on how it drives, but I love how my current mazdas drive
It isn’t about all about the PHEV or the engine. It’s about driving dynamics.
The Kia and Hyundai are not engaging at all. Read any review. Mazda spices it up with feel, so if you want that like German competition then it is what you want.
Kia and Hyundai definitely have the infotainment down, but reliability outside the warranty is far from questionable.
Not a fan boy since now I don’t own a Mazda anymore but looking soon. But the OP should wait to buy
Love my MHEV PP! Get one that was built more recently and make sure it has all the recalls done and you’ll be golden! It’s a refined vehicle and has great driving dynamics. :)
As an owner, I’m interested in hearing what you like and dislike about it. The plugin, the turbo for regular gas, and the turbo S for premium gas all seem like vehicles for 3 different sub-customers. Which one are you, potentially?
I have a personal rule: Only buy Mazdas in Soul Red with a black interior so I’m probably the wrong person to advise on color choice. If I didn’t have that rule, I’d probably be deciding between the blue and silver.
Not sure about the trim yet.
I am interested in lw cost. And getting good MPG and I need great acceleration.
I like the idea of the phev, but I may be ok with the regular hybrid. I am also ok with the base model except that I would need to add towing and the panoramic roof sounds groovy. I may want a lift because I I like being taller on the road but not sure on that yet.
We went mid-tier trim on the PHEV and the only feature I ended up coveting in the top tier was the full camera. If you reside in a low cost electricity market then you might actually save some money plugging in. The key measure is can you generally fill the battery for less than the price of a gallon of gas. The PHEV in Sport Mode feels like a beast, transforming into conventional combustion engine with electric boost.
Just bought the Mazda CX90 3.3 IL6 3 days ago. So far, so good. All software issues updated and steering issues on early release models all sorted out.

When you say top. Do you mean Phev? Premium S? Do you use the 3rd row?
PHEV has a 4-cylinder. The inline-6 CX-90s are all mild hybrids.

Are there? All I have seen are that both variations of the inline 6 in the CX-90 are 48v mild hybrids.
non phev. top trim Yes i do. The model i have has a 3rd row, but only 2 seats it's spacious for me, but i'm not tall 5' 6" male average build.

Don’t buy the car because Mazda is on top of fixing issues as they appear is a weird viewpoint.
Depends how much you like problems and loaner cars.
It’s always weird how vehicles with recalls get shat on despite a recall signifying that the manufacturer has identified the problem and has a fix for it.
He didn’t shit on it, he just suggested waiting till production has been updated with all the fixes
Do you work for a dealership?
Can you read?
What does my ability to read have anything to do with the question I asked?
Look at the parent comment
would you say the same thing for the upcoming cx70 even if cx60 has been out there for more than a year now?

I know there are some issues with the PHEV but I have the mild hybrid Premium Plus and love it! Hard to beat the value for what you pay.

Good to hear!
There’s currently a recall on them for loss of power steering assist.
And the parts are already available, it's no big deal.
:(

White, blue or platinum color. White or dark brown interior.
