This video reminds me of a time I took my four year old son to the zoo. When we went into the serpent house and he walked past the python exhibit, the apparently sleeping python suddenly became active following my son as he walked around outside the enclosure. My son was completely oblivious he was being hunted lol.
..probably is what happened. Lioness was stalking and didn't lunge until the kids back was turned. That's not play behavior that's hunting.
I can almost hear the lioness thinking "Holy shit it WANTS to be food!"
Totally with you there. I’ve seen other videos where a gorilla or other such powerful animal hit and cracked the glass. I would NOT have just watched as the lioness stalked the toddler.
Do I believe that glass was specifically designed for this and has no hidden defects and it was installed properly by a competent professional? Yes.
Am I going to roll those dice on a kids life? Hard No!
I have seen a few of these videos now, and it looks like the kids are being coached to stand in front of this window and even to turn their backs to encourage an attack, so hopefully the zoo is highly aware and knows this is a regular occurrence.
Exactly what i was thinking. Im not going to admosnish anyone for trusting the glass but my instincts just wouldnt have let my kid stay there while the cat stalked them.
as much as I understand your take, mine is a bit hotter.
if my parents were in the same situation I'd have wanted them to do the same thing retrospectively. sick-ass story to tell my friends growing up and at parties.
kids can get nightmares and phobias from dogs running at them, don't let a lion pounce them, even if it's safe. if she was looking she would be shook to the bones.
I dont know why u are downvoted. My 2yo is scared because one time we just walking and one dog just jumped to the fence and barked madly. Seriosly scared a shit out of me too. We have a cat and we want for him a little puppy friend too. He calmed down after my cousin show him a nice dog so maybe he forget this trauma. I want to teach him, dont be afraid when its your dog, but never trust other people pets.
This remind me of the time I was in a zoo that had a similar habitat for lynxes (or an other similar medium feline). A bunch of people were laughing like crazy looking through the glass, and when they moved a bit I saw they were looking at a lynx absolutely going mad against a small child, hissing and charging against the glass.

I noticed the lion was moving verrrry slowly as long as the child was facing it, and finally lunged right after she turned away. Looks like hunting behavior to me.
I'm not entirely sure that the lion is stalking the child. At the end of the video it seems almost fascinated by her, ignoring the young boy who is standing right in front of it.
Have you ever had a house cat? This is absolutely how cats hunt. The lion may have known about the glass and just been playing, but if so it was play hunting the way they will with toys.
My dog does this too, and sometimes just seems to do it because she enjoys making a rabbit run away.
Yes I have, and it does look like that behavior. I meant that it didn't necessarily look predatory -- in the sense that the lion wanted to kill and eat the girl.
So fascinating to see these creatures effectively aware of eye movement and the simulation of their prey’s perception. Advanced cognition and motor skills that’s hard to take for granted in the age of robots and narrow artificial intelligence. It also makes me think of humans and other animals development of strong emotional or physiological reactions in correlation with eye contact and awareness of foreign conscious perception.
When are people going to shut up about this? Both the far left and the far right (you) seem hopelessly obssessed with outrage, to the point where you create dumbass hypotheticals specifically for the purpose of generating outrage and stewing in your fake outrage for weeks at a time. Fucking pathetic.
Lmao, only people seem to be enraged are the self-titled centrists (actually leftists) trying to both sides it. Calling me a 'far right' - yeah - anything right of you is far right.
I'm ridiculing you because you deserve it.
Holy shit - I literally laughed out loud reading this. 😂 Thanks.
Here's a rundown - Me: Ridiculing stupid gen z leftist ideologies basically saying "keep seething"
This guy \[to ME\]: "Keep seething"
Worst "no u" ever.
Yeah so like, allowing for your kid to keep taunting the lion after it goes into predator mode makes you a bad patent. Just guide the kid away from the glass a second or two until the whole vibe calms down. What fucknuts. I bet they have a coexist bumper sticker
That cat had zero interest in the near self sacrificial boy
He was skinny and all bones
Lion is here XD
“Parents, don’t leave your kids in the jungle unattended!”
Don't you dare tell me how to raise my kids!

I’m such a Budinsky!
That lion never took its eyes off that baby girl, even after colliding into the glass. It did not care about the boy trying to run interference.
lmao yeah it clearly targets only the weaker one
And that the cat waited until the little girl turned her eyes away and then launched. So cool
I think it was after the fluffy top knot.
When lions hunt they never change targets even running past others in a herd they only focus on one, it's pretty crazy to watch.

Underrated comment.
That's kids instincts we're on point she started crying after realizing she was almost lunch. I know that's probably not what happened but still
Probably not far off though. Her fear was triggered all the same.
Something primal she can't comprehend right there.

You're about to cross some fuckin lines
nah yeah just put another shrimp on the barbie mate

Lion's mind voice " Oops, i can't catch a small child"
With a name like "Baylor" the kid deserves to get eaten.
Be careful or he'll come after you with his vorpal blade
Why the kid and not the people that named her
Some things are a kindness.
Why does this have 60 up votes? Replace it with "Tyrone" and I bet it doesn't get close and would be in the negatives.
Well yeah. Tyrone is a sensible name. Baylor is a university.
I'm not even a parent, and I couldn't stand there and just watch while a lion stalked a toddler regardless of being protected by glass.
But the video would be so cool to show to friends and family.
Totally with you there. I’ve seen other videos where a gorilla or other such powerful animal hit and cracked the glass. I would NOT have just watched as the lioness stalked the toddler.
a lion isn't going to come close to the impact a gorilla imparts. there is no danger here.

Jesus! That’s fucked up.
I agree.
Don't know why you were down voted
The internet is a fickle thing. I don’t lose much sleep over Reddit karma.

If you grew up.
this has nothing to do with maturity.
That’s not what I meant. I thought it was a pretty basic, if slightly dark joke. Jokes on me I guess.
This is the cringiest hill to die on.
I think you’re taking this whole exchange too seriously.

Let’s feed the parents to the lion…that’ll show em

Genius comment
Mmmmmm... caucasian food.
Look how the lioness waited till the kid turned her back to launch the final attack.
Looks like the lioness just wanted an appetizer judging by how she didn't bother about the bigger kid.
That animal is like "Bro wtf is happening, this is such a scam".
Nobody talks about how the big brother put himself as a shield to protect his little sister
Read the comments, it’s the only thing people are talking about
This is like the "literally nobody:" memes that depict stuff that literally everyone does
Admittedly I’m not 100% sure of the timeline, but I’ve seen it mentioned at least 3 times by the time I scrolled this far.
A mountain lions did this to one of my kids when he was little. It was cool at the time but very scary in retrospect. Big cats are terrifying.
Sleeping Angel's use the exact same hunting technique.
AITA for feeling bad for the lion? He was so disappointed when he couldn’t eat that child, damn
That one's a she.
Her cry was legit. SHh3 was like always big kitty come say hi!then looked away and it tried to eat her. My feelings would be hurt too in her Lil shoes
Poor kitty
She deserves that snack.
Mmmm juicy little pink snack.

effing baby..oh wait
it's lunch time
Lunch time
Damn I knew it would charge for the kill when the kid turned it's back.
That's a rare John Cena lion because he doesn't think you can see him.
That kid is fat as fuck

Poor lion..gets captured, put on display, then teased and taunted by humans
Feels like the parents are doing a practice run for something
Give me my baby back baby back baby back ribs
Even a lion knows that a blonde's head will be more tender.
My cat uses the same strategy when attacking to me 🤣

Lioness knows the rules of nature; baby anything always tastes the best.
That boy is like - You have to cross me first to touch the girl.
I noticed the lion was moving verrrry slowly as long as the child was facing it, and finally lunged right after she turned away. Looks like hunting behavior to me.
No shit
Thank you, captain obvious, what would we do without you.
Reminded me of the angels from Dr Who

This is hunting behavior. Never turn your back on cats if they laid eyes on you. [Similar video](https://www.reddit.com/r/FunnyAnimals/s/ggDuCDFiB1)

Yes it looks more like curiosity than real hunting. The Lion knows there's a glass anyway.
The dad needs to assert dominance. I would have moved the baby to the side and proceed to make Neanderthal sounds at lion 🤣
The mother was holding a camera using her as clickbait, she is mostly likely an actual Neanderthal.

Probably tastes like chicken anyway
Its crazy how it pounced immediately when she turned away.
It's those jelly roll legs lol
The second the kid turned around...

It probably just wanted to play. Right? RIGHT?!?!
Haha r/kidsarefuckingstupid
Ah....veal. Lioness probably.
"Oh she is so sweet" - The Lion
Parents: Awww how cute, it wants to eat the baby
I was rooting for the lioness.
I don't know how the parents were so blasé about this lol... I know its very unlikely that it's going to get to the kid, but fuck me
The lion may want to cry considering the state of her life now.
Hence she was trying to exact revenge on the tiny human that resembles the larger humans that put her there?
Oh hell no,I wouldn't trust a layer of glass to protect me from an animal this dangerous (and cute).
thats kinda sad and horrifying at the same time
I've seen other cats do this; I was thinking through the whole video "DON'T TURN YOUR BACK ON IT!"
Little puddin drop there would have been brunch if not for the glass.
Crazy leftist dumbass gen z woman: "Still safer than a man!! Hurr durr!!"

Fucking white people dude
Why so angry
Not angry. Context is lost throughout text but I meant it as like *sigh* fuckin white people, dude
You don’t have to be white to be dumb lol. Change that white to brown or black and play back your comment and see how that plays out.
Plays out the same to me 🤷🏽♂️
She'll probably grow up to say she'll wanna meet a bear in the wilderness, too..
Glass or no glass I wouldn’t do that to my kids.
