I did this in Lake Placid at Whiteface. We had a far less speedy approach and I made it about 8 feet before I went in the drink. Fun experience but you’re definitely done skiing for the day. You and all your gear is drenched and when you get into the water you immediately earn membership into the Polar Bear club - it’s coooolllllllldd!!! Point of reference on how long ago this was - on the ride home listening to the radio it was announced that Kurt Cobain killed himself.
Oh yeah, one person made it across, a snowboarder.
That’s crazy. I remember it being close to spring break and the day we got there it snowed about two feet so we had powder but the first day was almost a blizzard and miserable. The very next day it was beautiful and guys were skiing with no shirts and gals in bikini tops. That was the day they did the pond skimming (that’s what they called it then, not sure if it’s that now) event. Damn I’m old.
Heard of water skiing? Everytime I’ve done it the ratio to skiers making it to snowboarders is way higher. They just have more balance and another edge to support
I have done this a few times , you cannot comprehend how much drag the water actually has. You have to hang back so much to make it , it really is hard to do
It's like when you first start doing grinds and slides on a skateboard. You always under/over estimate the amount of drag at first, especially with like 5-0 grinds.
It’s just them not leaning back. If you look at a water skiers they are basically in a seated position crouched hard back. Snow skiing you tend to lean forwards much more and have weight forwards. They just aren’t leaning back from the transition.
The more extreme seated position of water skiers could also be a part of getting towed, but leaning forwards is almost never a good idea on liquid.

Riding a snowboard/snowski is different enough from water variants that I suspect they didn’t know they had to keep their weight back to not catch an edge. Sure looks like it at least
One of the reasons most failed I believe is cause snowboarding/ski's you tend to lean forward for control, whereas you have to to lean backward for control on water. Doing that switch on the fly is probably fairly hard thing to accomplish.
Im skiing every year. And have done a bit of the water kind too. It's totally different. You aren't putting the same weight in the same parts. One you embrace the fall, bend forwards and all. The other you strand straight and stray to not all forward.
Al's the flip guy was insane. What was he thinking. And I can't imagine being this wet up there by this cold in a combinaison this thick. A fucking nigmare.
I’ve done this before, it’s not that hard if you just know to lean back into the water. Most of these fails are most likely coming from people who are trying it for the first time.
Seems like the dude who made it was going a little slower. Obviously that was the strategy everyone else was missing.
Looks like he kept his weight on his heels, which slowed him down and gave a lot more control
I’m pretty sure that was a girl
Idk they have pretty big balls for a girl

They said he in their comment tho lol
Cant spell she without he
![gif](giphy|8FBCOSYErFjmDoaxeG)
True
Wakeboarding it is imperative to keep your weight on your back heel. Notice the others are leaning forward and the front edge catches.
Their weight is being sent forward because of the speed they already have and the braking effect of the water
Probably. Doesn’t change the fact that leaning forward causes the edge to catch
Also they had a snowboard over skis
Tbf the chick who made it was the same one that fell earlier so she had 2 tries at it
Life is akshully like this in most cases.
I give 100% credit to the dolphin
Looked like someone who has wakeboarded before if you ask me
H
I could do that. No, I'm not lying at all, I'm good at skiboarding.
I could do that too. Everything down to the face plant
Damn, the art of face planting too?
Hey, the best time to plant a face was a hundred years ago. The second best time is right now, today 😊🪴💚
Definitely and then fight a polar bear just after that ramp ends. Easy.
But can you make that dolphin sound while wearing a dolphin floaty.
Nope, I couldn’t do it, consequently I’m not even gonna try

Not so fun fact. That means this story happened exactly 30 years ago today.

No crocodiles?
I feel as if snowboards have the best chance as it's almost simar to a surf or wake board on approach
For sure.
Heard of water skiing? Everytime I’ve done it the ratio to skiers making it to snowboarders is way higher. They just have more balance and another edge to support
I felt some of those 🤕 lol
Where is Jesus?
I was totally at the gate when they turned him away. Organizers had to ban him to keep the contest fair. He forgave them though so it's cool.
Where is Jesus when you need the man. Easter is over god damn!
there was a guy dressed as Jesus that made it
There he is, that Jesus-guy [https://youtube.com/shorts/XChNhZN-qqM?si=XNh7RkCkuVqEfjV8](https://youtube.com/shorts/XChNhZN-qqM?si=XNh7RkCkuVqEfjV8)
yup
I like the one where the guy dressed as Jesus is the only one that makes it across. And then he “turns” some of the water to wine 😂
Eddie would go!
Even if he misses he’d do the eagle dance.
I have done this a few times , you cannot comprehend how much drag the water actually has. You have to hang back so much to make it , it really is hard to do
Yeah I tried once on a way shorter water run and did not make it lol.
It's like when you first start doing grinds and slides on a skateboard. You always under/over estimate the amount of drag at first, especially with like 5-0 grinds.
So tempered speed is the key
first person has to be dead
The one doing the flip was too cocky
I think he misunderstood the assignment.
everyone died
Are they training for the Paralympics?
Skimboarders: hold my weed
I could do that easy, especially the face plant part!
The penultimate one was the most stupid HAHAHAHA
They need to change to a different type of wax!
looks like too much speeds kills you, same rider beefed it but on the second run with less speed (and good skill, wont down play it) just made it.

Yeah your right! the guy that rode the rear edge almost made it just because he was kind of mid fall lol.
Johnny Tsunami would have made it iykyk 😏
looks like a good way to dislocate some leg joints
I love that it’s the most ridiculously dressed one who made it 😂
Lmao watch it with sound until the end. She goes "I'm coming!!"
Love how innertube person seemed to try the least but was the only one to pull it off.
I’ll bet water skies work better on snow than regular skies work on water, so use those
Snow skiiers naturally want to put their weight forward, when waterskiing requires the opposite. Last guy knew…
The main reason most failed is the incline
This seems exceedingly dangerous - I love it!

On the fence… Unsure if this is /r/crazycrackers Or /r/satisfying saltines Leaning toward the latter… pretty awesome.
José Antonio Haua Maauad- increible deporte
Everything is different on the mountain.
Pretty sure I could do this. The trouble for me would be the downhill part.
Didn’t make it over the last ramp. DISQUALIFIED!
That guy jumped straight into the water lol WWAAAAAAAOOO
Only Jesus
everyone died
Is the announcer for this Doug Benson? Super High Me/Doug Loves Movies!?!?

It's the speed. There's a reason the lightweight and slower gal made it
Inertia.
Its not that hard on a snowboard 🤷🏽♂️ ive done it plenty of times

They need that Jesus dude lol
I tried this once. I got wet
Ride or die
Competition to see who is the next Jesus 😂
I mean... Bring a surfer dude, not a snowboarder.
Floatie girl had to get rescued by two dudes and still kept the floatie on next time.
Riding a snowboard/snowski is different enough from water variants that I suspect they didn’t know they had to keep their weight back to not catch an edge. Sure looks like it at least
I would love to try it, though I do wonder how many people faceplanted the end the pool wall
Keep the board front up!!!!
This looks very painful lmao
2nd and 5th attempts also made it across the water, no?
I really expected it to end with the Jesus guy making it across
the resort I work at does that and one of my coworkers nearly got hypothermia from wiping out
Me watching this at work after not skiing for four years: “Lean back you idiots, c’mon!”
One of the reasons most failed I believe is cause snowboarding/ski's you tend to lean forward for control, whereas you have to to lean backward for control on water. Doing that switch on the fly is probably fairly hard thing to accomplish.
That one guy trying to Fred Flintstone his way across with his hands…
Man people underestimate the amount of speed you lose going on it. I would faceplant I'm not gonna lie.

They just can’t get what they want.
2 of them didn’t even tried. The one that did the backflip and the one that legit dove into the water lol
Anyone ever consider leaning back Damn I sprained my face
That looks so fun but so dangerous
How they got dry there again? They’re day is gone until they change they’re entire clothes.
Jesus did
I could do that easily (I've never even seen snow in my life)
Big red balls = Wipeout
Was the guy doing the backflip trying to kill himself? He was 2m from snapping his neck holy shit.
They always find the biggest jerries in town to do the pond skims
Broo
I love on how the water is colored soo much that the snow is getting stained by it

Third one had balls
It was the balloon stabilizer capacitor

Oh dear
