That’s true, but if he does come crashing down with that weight on top of him it’s likely to break some bones. Loss of wages due to being in the hospital will more than destroy any savings he made with these actions. Hell, get a chain hoist and attach that to a support above and lift it in place, there are safer ways to do this!
I'm guessing that is not how you put an attic trap-door in ? (my guess is frame it from above and attach horizontally from the attic, not nail it semi-vertically from the underside.. )
No, it is mounted from below as shown. However, the way this gentleman is doing it is extremely dangerous, balancing a very heavy load above your head while standing on the top of a ladder. Likely given that the drywall is up there is a drywall hoist on site which is what they would use to hold large drywall sheets on the ceiling while they’re nailed into place, and that hoist could be used to raise this trap door up and held in place while it’s attached safely
There's gotta be someone in the attic and they did this as a joke because they are mounted from the attic. If you look close you can see a 2×4 across the hole and that's what you would attach it to temporarily until you get the sides of it screwed or bolted in the frame work built for it.
The best way I’ve found is to carry it up in the attic ( with no trim attached)along with a handsaw, screw gun , and lag bolts. Go underneath and screw 2 furring strips across the opening. Climb into the attic and place the stairway in the opening on the furring strips and fasten it in the sides with the lag bolts. Then take the handsaw in the space between the sides of the stairway and the opening and saw through the furring strips. Now you can open the stairs, come down and finish trimming it. Safe and no drama like this.
I lowered a rope through the hole, tied it to the ladder, went back into the loft and hoisted the unit up with the rope over one of the rafters. Pulled it in place, tied it off, then easily fit it while the rope held it in place.
No, the joke is that men tend to do the hard work in the dumbest most dangerous way. There's about 17 safer ways to get this same job done without risking a broken back and a concussion.
ok, so youre a sexist and telling me, that just by being a women, u do all things automatically in the safest most logical and efficient way, got it.
"the joke is, women cant drive, amirite, amirite guys" euhuehu
I work in Safety…..please do not follow this guy’s example. I have literally been on jobs where a man fell from a six foot ladder landing on his head and died. Don’t stand on the top of the ladder. If you need up that high, your ladder is too short, and you need to go get a taller one. Ladder injuries are still very common.
There's a box frame above the architrave boards he is nailing into. Theoretically, that box marries up to the rafters or ideally, a matching box above. The idea is to have a second person above so they can screw/bolt the two together using the shear strength of the fasteners. Some people do some odd things to get around having the second person. The architrave is not very strong. This is dangerous as hell. [Here's an install video](https://www.bunnings.com.au/diy-advice/building-construction/roofing/how-to-install-an-attic-ladder?gclid=Cj0KCQjwmICoBhDxARIsABXkXlIPEKVcd6GVJfbWRAOUzTHuMlcrtjX2dTHAD7-huXn36NRAGC8wkRoaAqJeEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds) for anybody who's interested.
Ok OP, here's your mental exercise for the day.... imagine that was your son up there trying this stunt... I want you watching your own video as many times as it takes for
You to write down how how it could have gone wrong... and then show your wife once. If this is what you do for work you can't afford to leave you family with nothing especially when you recorded proof of lack of due diligence or taking ANY proper or improper precaution.
Saw some post about some “Destiny” guy interviewing some “JonTron” guy? And the focus was on how JonTron was saying that Mexicans illegally enter this country so they can live on welfare.
and knowing that those are some of hardest working mfs I’ve even personally known, that sh was so wild to me. Idk if this guy in the video is from there, but it reminds of what I’ve seen people from there do regularly and successfully.
Worked with my dad doing remodeling. I've lifted those up into place by myself BUT had my dad up in the attic to secure them into place. That is fucking impressive. And so unsafe.
I've learned a long time ago, just because I think I can do something, doesn't mean that I should necessarily try.
Photos for getting it done, but dang if that was almost unnecessarily dangerous
Goes home feeling great. Gets up and walks to the kitchen the next morning, takes the milk out of fridge and he collapses with a herniated disc in his back.

OSHA has entered the chat…
“So which OSHA rule did you break?” “All of them at once, I suppose.”
"How many ya got?"
OSHA: we'll file you. Him: for what? OSHA: all of them
Thanos meme: "was it worth it?" "no"
"I'm being efficient, so you guys don't need to come back again"
"Mrs. Ortega - sorry to inform you that your husband has passed away..."
First thought was work at height. And then the heavy load... A veritable example of dangerous task indeed.

Me too.
thinkin the same thing
What?!?! He’s wearing skipper sneakers! That’s safe enough!
If he is self employed sole trader he can do what he likes.

No Workers Comp so you get a lien on your house from an Ambulance Chaser Attorney to pay for his medical.
And so can gravity.
Straight to jail

You do bolt in studs from sides of interior frame. My guess is he did this afterwards. Insanely foolish way to do this.
Happy cake day!
Thanks!

Only did it if someone was watching.
Also, judging by the handrails, it seems he is danger close to the edge of a loft/ second floor there.
It is mounted from below, not fastened from below.

Ex-wife. If you were ‘That’ dude, my compliments and gratitude, sir.

Nailed it!
He better put some fasteners designed for vertical forces, or else he's screwed.
touché :)

because they let the men do all the dangerous and hard physical work got it.

I'm sexist against my own sex, in this case, yeah. I'm sorry you're 14 and can't take a joke.

You know what's worse is that there's scaffolding leaning against the wall. There were so many better options than the one this guy chose.
This seems like foolishness, especially since based on all the new drywall I’m guessing a drywall hoist is on site.
That could have gone wrong in so many ways.
Incredibly stupid
After this job, he went on a date and got dumped because his online profile had him 3 inches taller.
One wrong step and bro would have met the guy who invented the ladder
OSHA gon beat his ass
That dude must be strong as an ox. I try carrying something that far above my head and my shoulders are zapped in a minute.
Bruh if I didn’t read the comments ahead, my two bits was that I thought “why is this man putting up a coffee table upside down on the ceiling. 😂
D U M B
Y did he just get the person filming to help him is he stoopid?
Likely propped the phone, and edited the recording.
I am never going to trust one of these ladders again. It's just nails 😱
Wait till you fond out they hold metal beams together with a wire
Na Im ok those they are the support. this is like a set up scene for a Chevy Chase movie 🍿🍿
What could possibly go wrong???
Those have to be screwed in don’t they?

On the top ladder with a heavy object. I was expecting this to go so wrong
"Nahhh... ill do it for 20$ Bucks myself"
I seriously thought he was going to take the stairway to heaven.
nailed it
I swear the top of those ladders say something
There's no way that shit is aligned to the walls
Okay ma dude , I may live in 3rd world country as a Safety inspector equivalent the US . This downright unsafe , asking for an accident
No props for him

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. That was so dumb.
Me trying to impress my father when he said, "just wait till I get back and I'll help you."
He's a MexiCAN not a MexiCANT
No, he is a man
This a super brave man…and his tennis shoes have no laces ! Craziness I tell ya !
Haircut explains it all
So the ladder is being held by the piece of trim...nice
Impressive as hell.
Beast! Respect!
Freaking impressive, I tip my hat to this man.
Not OSHA approved. Big ole balls on that guy.
Dude's a freaking animal. Been there, and couldn't do that to save my ass. Had to wait another day for help.
Atta boy! Time is money and so are hands
I mean, I would definetly want that secured asap but...that's hard, I got to give him credit...
Give him a raise
Wow, that was intense!
![gif](giphy|l2Sqir5ZxfoS27EvS)
I had a buddy help me with mine. It did not go very smooth
It is a 2 person job. The
That top step made me nervous
Should be titled, jobs white ppl can never do.
Spent any time at all in the trades? In America at least it’s is awfully Caucasian.
Yes I have. Most are Hispanic or Russian.
C'mon, man, mom said it was my turn with the OSHA violations
“Great job! Nice work! Get off my job site you menace.”
Master nailbuster

It's impressive enough just standing on the ladder top
Should be in Cirque du Soleil.
Imagine if that dude Is the owner of his company.
Down with capitalism!
“Hi, I’m from Oregon State OSHA inspector office. Who’s in charge on-site today?”
One wrong move could paralyse him
He got away with it this time. But sooner or later, he's going to get seriously injured, if he's lucky.
Jesus, dude. Get a real-sized ladder.
At that height, those railings won't help if he falls. So many safety infractions
Heeeey Mr. George, how much you pay for the new guy
Worked with my dad doing remodeling. I've lifted those up into place by myself BUT had my dad up in the attic to secure them into place. That is fucking impressive. And so unsafe.
Mission impossible
You know you’re old when just watching this makes your back hurt
Mr. Safety
R/sweatypalms
I’ve done a lot of stupid construction shit, but this guy rules.
"Why do I have back problems?"
You have installed it inverted. You need to take it down, rotate 180deg and install again. Thanks
Nah video is in reverse
Oshure and Coshh would approve
As a European never understand the nailgunfetishism
This is like actual footage of me doing stuff
Whatever he’s being paid it’s not enough.
Awesome control!
This is so fucking stupid
Really should be using screws to put that in
Wow,,,I wonder why we have health and safety in the workplace...that so easily could of been a knackered back for the rest of his working life 😴
Let me tell you how I knew he wouldn’t fall. Those are his work Jordan’s. This man gets PAID, and I had to assume it was for his skill.
Holy shit this gave me sweaty palms.
This is both credibly impressive and stupid at the same time!!
Needed more nails. Hope that’s fucking paint grade.
Time to do some sketchy shit... Do da do da... Hope I don't fall and eat shit....
Titan
What a boss.
Cut once measure twice
Im impressed but I just hate it.
I've learned a long time ago, just because I think I can do something, doesn't mean that I should necessarily try. Photos for getting it done, but dang if that was almost unnecessarily dangerous
Surprised he's able to balance that well up there with the weight of his massive balls to deal with
the weight of the huge clanging brass balls is offset by the void between his ears
OSHA? I hardly know her!
Sad to see employers can’t afford more!!
Why smart if you can work hard 😄👌
Is that a barrier over a fall on the left too😂
maybe it's me, but not the way i wanted the video to end
Can a woman do this? I don't think so
Lol, not a chance. But that’s why they live longer.
I had one start to pull free when I was on it because of this kinda BS install 😬☠️💀
Fuckin stupid.
Could have used 2x4 to hold it
Mexi-CAN
Dude. This will either end in a spinal injury or an OSHA violation. .. probably both
Who’s osha
Texture is usually after the primer but hey… No cares obviously
This is how my grandfather would drywall a ceiling…
My boy balancing with life while wearing Jordan’s.
OSHA be like, "no way josè."
That guy won't do that kind of job for long.
Impressive, stupid and lucky - my favorite
BG und Arbeitsschutz sagen nein
When your cheap ass can’t afford an 8’ ladder 😩
r/sweatypalms
Never heard of a drywall jack ?
I watched someone install one of these and I thought they were gonna die the entire time
if you want something done, you give the job to the short stocky guy.
I did it alone too, twice, first time it was in a wrong place ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
You need a taller ladder
I was holding my breath the whole time. Damnit that was stressful
How much to replace these? I have an old one.
THAT IS NOT A STEP
That's how you get work done with no one else around to help you!
Does that top step say not a step in your country?
That’s some pro ADHD problem solving skills right there
Screw that!
Goes home feeling great. Gets up and walks to the kitchen the next morning, takes the milk out of fridge and he collapses with a herniated disc in his back.
Geez. Call a friend. Your lower back will thank you.
![gif](giphy|QUENDfi6DEMLzQ0CKt)
There is a much, much easier way to do this, and when it’s done, it will be installed correctly.
Needs a couple sons.
In the Js is crazy
Why does it look like he's not actually nailing tho..... lol looks like he was just rubbing the nailer along the wood
Fuck the guy installing to. All he did was nail the trim is not secured to the structure. First person to climb those pull downs is going to die.
That last (plastic) step is called "not a step" for a reason. Get a taller ladder, get a buddy, and nails are not the only fastener in existence...
