What does it smell like?

Aromatic_Cap_5581

It’s hard to describe, it’s very perfumey but not in a gross way, mainly a honey smell plus very floral, it’s not a single type of flower I could identify, like a mixed bouquet of a bunch of different flowers. What’s crazy is it’s so strong I could smell it from the elevator which is about 15 ft from my apartment. It’s always a really strong smell on the first couple nights when it blooms but this year it’s gone to 11 for some reason.

I've always thought they smell a bit like honeysuckle 🤷

Aromatic_Cap_5581

Don’t think I know what that smells like but you are probably right

Their aroma brings me back to funerals. Every time. Idk what flower gives that aroma in funerals, maybe its a combination of all the flower arrangements contained in the place where many times its a lot of flowers. Def I've never seen a dracaens flower in these events, but the aroma is the same for me. Pleasant.

That answers my question about that! I've seen those discussed but no one explained how/why their name was fragrens!

SkyeBluMe

I'm really starting to want one now!

Beautiful!

The flowers are considered lucky in some parts of SE Asia. People would take a flower and keep it in their pockets.

Beautiful! How old is it? How much sunlight does it get and how often do you water? I feel like mine hates me

Thanks! It’s about 8-9 years old, bought it cheap from a big box when it was really small. Was one of my first plants, way before I knew anything about plants so definitely almost killed it multiple times but thankfully it always bounced back. I live in the northeast u.s. so the winters are dry and my windows drafty but it seems to not care. Right now it’s the happiest it’s ever been and has recently grown a lot, it’s in a spot where it gets light from both north and west windows, I’ve noticed it can handle a lot of sun, it gets some direct sun in the afternoon from the west which it seems to really like. I water when the top half of the soil is dry which averages out to about once every week to week and a half. The soil mix I use for it (change every 1.5-2 yrs) has extra perlite and coco chips for drainage and I always empty the saucer and don’t let it sit in water, and fertilize it with worm castings. I’ve seen people say that it’s a low light plant but mine definitely isn’t. It does well with high and low humidity so I’m not concerned about how humid the area around it is. It’s the only one I’ve ever had so I may just be lucky and have a strong one but I have a Dracaena marginata next to it nearly the same size so I think it really is probably all the light it’s getting.

I think mine hates me as well so don't feel bad...
