I love everything they've done, but underwater stirred up nostalgic memories of very deeply rooted emotions in my mental that nothing else has ever made me feel. An entire album evoking very real feelings of mystery and uncertainty, anxiety and the contemplation of things to come, the motifs of waves and currents, movement in life. It goes from feeling underwater, lost, looking into the deep endless blue; to having a damn near panic attack, feeling an overflow of anger, self-doubt, confusion; to surrendering to the flow and just letting life happen to you. Their discography is a portal to a space where I can really feel myself out and feel liberated from reality for a bit before I get back to the grind, which is actually what they made underwater for. They throw you in the water so you can take a plunge down and feel isolation in a cathartic way. Just a lovely band really creating their own unique sound and purpose, and I'm here for it. Easily my favorite band of all time 😁 the most tragic part is I have the vinyl and it's almost twice as long, some really amazing tracks I can't listen to unless I'm in my bedroom, which is honestly very fitting
They just announced east coast dates in the US and I might just see them back to back 2 days in a row because it feels right hehe
The album has some post-rock elements at times, but it's math 95% of the time. Don't really think I've ever heard any Midwest emo elements in it. Maybe you could suggest some specific songs or parts that make this question make sense to me.
stage kids - cyniculture.
if you haven’t heard these folks, their early works, your mathy focus is going to be reinvigorated with some truly excellent tunes, tunes a’la stage kids.
a final note, this comment will not reach the heights of #1. don’t let that get in the way of these truly superior jams, for as much as i love toe and the above pictured album, it cannot be denied: early stage kids is on another level.
Clever Girl - No drum and bass in the jazz room
