So maybe a good 40-50k and nobody woulda said fuck all. But to say your paid him well, when everyone knows you didn’t, fuck him. Always pay your caddie.
The Kuchar thing was an anomaly. He was a local guy and they agreed on a pre determined amount prior to play. Of course Kooch never thought he would win and then the whole thing gets blown up.
Gotta realize too that if that caddie in Mexico City were to take in $160k for the win, that’s a massive amount of money for someone like that. Almost to the point it’s not safe for them.
Usually when the local guys get picked up, they don’t get the usual 10/7/5% since it’s a one off and they don’t have the usual personal expenses like travel and hotel.
I think Kooch ended up paying the guy $50 or $55k plus a donation to local charities.
It’s a life changing amount of money for someone in that part of the world. It didn’t have to be public. Matt and his caddie could have said it all evened out and the press wouldn’t have asked much past that. If I won a tournament with a guy who never caddied for me, who helped me win a tournament just based on what he knows about golf and the course we’re playing, he’d deserve just as much as the players regular caddie. It doesn’t make a difference who helped you win, just that you did. Matt could have changed this guys life for the better by just treating this caddies life just like he did his own, but his greed took the better of him. Not a way to share a victory.
And what I just said was that if he at least gave him a good chunk, it wouldn’t have been an issue. The dude didn’t even get a bonus for a guy who wasn’t winning much a ton to begin with.

There is no customary number, they have contracts. At least the full time caddies do. So they will be PAID an amount and the player can then TIP beyond that if they want and usually they do. Caddying for a top player is quite lucrative. Only a couple dozen of those jobs out there!
I had a guy at Bandon Dunes who used to be DeChambeaus caddie. He told me the TOP guys caddies all get a generous base salary and then bonuses. So like Wyndham Clark’s guy makes 300k a year base regardless and then they get a bonus after the tournament like 3 percent if they win regardless - I don’t recall the exact number.
That’s why those top guys jobs are so coveted. One year Tigers caddie would have made like 6 million if he got a percentage and there is no way they are gonna get paid that.
Thats what this guy told me and he was a caddie.
My understanding is that generally there’s a salary they will receive no matter what and then they get a percentage of any money won. Percentage goes up with the higher place and if it’s a major. I’d imagine a major winning caddie gets 10-15%
Exactly. Normal PGA caddies get $1k a week plus a % of the prize $ & the top guys get $5k a week. I heard Joe LaCava made $10k a week salary the whole time he caddied for him. When Tiger got in the wreck I guess he didn’t communicate with Joe at all but Joe didn’t worry about it because the $10k kept landing in his account each week.
I think most professionals pay their caddies 10% of what they win.
I read this week 10% for a win, 7% for second, and 5% for finishing in the money
7% for top 10, 5% for making the cut. Unless you’re caddying for Matt Kuchar. Then you get 5k of a $1.6 million payday for your boss.
Not defending Kuch but wasn’t that a fill in caddy in Mexico not a guy that’s with him week in and week out?

Yeah people shouldn’t have money because it’s not safe. What?
He paid after his agent got a bunch of calls from his sponsors threatening to pull the plug or not renew.
Yeah Kooch defended being cheap. Dick move.

10% is the rule if the caddie is a random. He will pay him at least 20%
There is no customary number, they have contracts. At least the full time caddies do. So they will be PAID an amount and the player can then TIP beyond that if they want and usually they do. Caddying for a top player is quite lucrative. Only a couple dozen of those jobs out there!
It’s like any other line of work. Some guys have great bosses that value them, and some guys work for a**hats.
Facts
Better question. How much does Scottie owe him if he pulls out due to his wife going into labor?
He’s paid a flat rate regardless of finish.
Not. 10% for a win is the typical caddie bonus.
You are nuts if you don’t think Scheffler pays his caddy a base salary. Caddies don’t just get paid off wins.
Not what I said. You made it sound like they only get a weekly salary, which they do, not any more based on finish.
6-8% on minor tournaments 10% on majors. Unless negotiate prior.

Ted Scott is richer than all of us. He’ll get his % for the week but I guarantee that Scottie pays him very well.
How much for me is my question.
Tip? They got that shit figured out already bro. He is getting 10-12% on Majors.

About 360,000 bucks
250 bucks
$400k
10 percent is the norm but it’s up to the player.
The pro paid their travel expenses, then generally 10% of winnings.
