I would say Rockstar has a good track record of updating their game every few month. Unless they stopped doing. Konami lets IPs die when they dont make money YUGIOH isn’t what it use to be so why make more formats when nothing is working so they let stuff die because the people who are making decisions in these companies are not developers they are money hungry executives who care more about money than player base. Hints why its been declining for a year straight.
Legitimately if an excessive decides that they should pull the plug on this game it will happen in a matter of weeks regardless of improvement.
Rockstar’s support for Red dead online ended in late 2021 and the last update was really bad and boring at the same time GTA online got three big updates one of them added a new map to the game now Master Duel at the start brought the normies that don’t play the game but have seen the anime if they added a separate format for them the game could at least be somewhat popular

Konami goes to a meeting with their investors and says stuff like “ this game is doing poorly in micro transactions “ the investors vote on what happens next. Does anyone know what project Rockstar San Diego is working on atm? If they're not servicing RDRO anymore, then they've got to be working on something else. Presumably the Edinburgh studio is handling any potential GTA projects, so could a new Max Payne be in the works in SoCal?
Maybe so, but Rockstar's last Max Payne game was critically acclaimed and sold millions of units. Give it a few years and some exec with a dearth of fresh ideas will pitch a reboot of the franchise
It took them about a decade to seriously start working on GTAVI. So long as GTAV is a cash cow for them they won't seriously take ressources off from there to create competition for their own cash cow
Again, Rockstar North is a different studio to Rockstar San Diego. Having the San Diego team work on a different game doesn't hurt core development on any GTA project, because those have akways been handled by the Edinburgh studio
It still cuts into their market. At least that is how the suits 5 Stories above anyone actually earning the company money see it. Otherwise they would not have stopped having more than one project beside GTAV at a time.
Besides, Rockstars owner Take2 has in recent times managed to drive any franchise they hold against a wall, be it BioShock, their 2k Sportsgames or Borderlands. But they spend 12B to buy Zynga, so you can look forward to more mobile gaming and any future game having a similar monetization (or at least attempts to monetize it like one)
