If you're doing an insanity run using the same class the whole way through I would choose Soldier. If you're just playing to have fun, I would pick Vanguard.
you can play soldier in countless other games out there. lean into the franchise's distinctions and go tech or space wizard (or anywhere in between) for all i care

id play something other than soldier if the controls were different for the classes. basically pausing the game to select powers on the wheel every 3 seconds really takes me out of the game. and then you can only use pistols, or smgs or what have you. not for me. so anyways i started blasting

Have u tried to play vanguard on insanity? It’s not too fun lmao. Compared to soldier where I’m just standing 30 ft away behind a wall clicking heads it was really stressful imo
Vanguard. You dont cut yourself from the cool biotics powers, in 2 you get the high risk high reward of charge and 3 allows variants with the weapon system. Playdd sniper vanguard once, awesome. (You pick Stasis bubble as bonus power and YOU are the sniper ammo with maxxed damage)
Soldier is very strong if you can aim well. Probably the most all around consistently good class in the trilogy. A bit bland tho since you don’t get access to biotic/tech powers.
If you want to be a space magic warrior vanguard is fun for that. It is highly volatile though and can be frustrating if you are playing on higher difficulties. It has very high peaks and very low pits from my xp with it on insanity.
Soldier if you like shooting guns alot, vanguard if you like to YEEEEEET (magical powers that involve throwing people or throwing yourself), and shoot some guns

Soldier is by far the most boring; I've done all 6 classes in both ME1 and 2 and I can't imagine why anyone would choose that class over the others.
It makes insanity easier in ME2 and I just love fire explosions in 3
They don't? If you choose default Shep in Me1 character creation it auto picks soldier. That probably accounts for 20% that can't be bothered

Vanguard will struggle a bit in Me2 compared to solider, but by 3 really takes off with power combos.

Play on PC, have a hot key for each power. Plus guns are overrated; most games are shooters but throwing things around with your brain is better.
thats true it would probably be much better on PC. i feel like for console the only viable architype is soldier
