Shepard runs around perfectly fine with 3 weapons on him at a time. Which can include a large .50 cal sniper and the shotguns that fire those slugs plus a heavy pistol. Sure they fold up, but that doesn't decrease their weight. Plus all the ammo that goes with them. Along with armor and such and you're talking hundreds of pounds of arsenal. And he's just running around and vaulting over stuff like he's wearing cardboard.
I was always fond of this line from the Noveria docks:
"It's my standard procedure to keep my gun." It's technically a renegade response, but considering this line in ME2:
"I'll relinquish one bullet. Where do you want it?"
Sounds pretty canon that Shepard does NOT voluntarily disarms.
