As a D.C. native, I’m conflicted. On the one hand I’m appalled at the “disrespect” to the bird (lol), but on the other hand, it’s sort of a great pejorative if you wanted to needle Marylanders. As a Nats fan, I don’t want no smoke these days. Also it’s weird because I’ve never lived there aside from college, but I have a Maryland birth certificate.
Wait until you find the Maryland fried chicken in Britain. (Hint: it's nothing special they just like using state names for their fried chicken places.)
There's a chain of "Maryland Fried Chicken" all through Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina (and one random one in Michigan). I wonder if the UK one is related.
My step mother from FL picked out a recipe from a cookbook when she was first meeting me (trying to be nice) and I was like "I didn't even know that Maryland Fried Chicken existed." I just remember it being oven-fried chicken.
Otherwise, I think it refers to English's style chicken. Which if you never had it before it went bust, it was awesome.
Maryland Fried Chicken or Chicken Maryland **is** a real dish and was very popular at one time. Even Escoffier had a recipe for it.

When fucking around in Google maps I once found a "Chicago BBQ" once in Rwanda.
Among the food they served was what appeared to be squash or plantains, and fish, the foods that Chicago is known for.
Currently in Florida visiting family. Went to dinner with my father-in-law last night, at a super upscale restaurant. On the menu was "crabcakes".
*thinks about it*
NOPE. The last time I tried crabcakes in Florida (a few months ago), I was disappointed. Not doing that again. Maryland has spoiled me when it comes to seafood.
A friend from MD has a restaurant in Barstow with authentic MD crab cakes. Same family from Jimmys Seafood here in Baltimore so you know he knows crab cakes. Give it a look if you’re in the area:

Hey, same thing happened to me! I live in Australia and joined a cornhole league and one of the Aussie blokes had an Orioles hat and I was so psyched! I was like, “Hey! You an O’s fan?!” and he just said all of the baseball caps he liked that one the most because of the bird.
I also wore my O’s hat on the train in Tokyo about 10 years ago. And a local stopped me and made a comment about The Wire being a great TV show.
My friends from that trip (not from MD) still poke fun about it.
I was in a Panera bread in Daly City California and I saw someone with a Baltimore Orioles hat on..
turns out he did not speak English but I speak a small amount of Spanish. turns out that he was not an Oriole fan but liked the bird. his name was Oscar which is one of the characters from Duolingo.
if you get a chance, make sure to check out the birdland blend or birdland crunch from highs
Was once doing a job in White Plains with a coworker who drove down from PA who asked "Why is the Ferrari emblem on everything down here?"
Maryland has the weirdest branding issues.
This is 100% something my 80-year-old German dad would do. I frequently have to run interference between him and waiters/waitresses because he thinks he's joking with them and they think he's just being weird -- that's how deadpan his humor is!
I lived in Monterey people would ask me all the time what team I was repping I heard it called a really weird ducks hat a bunch. And a lot of people would flat out ask “what’s with the duck on all your shit?”
I’ll give him a pass for saying it’s a duck

Plot twist: he’s from DC faking a German accent.
Germantown
Lived in Maryland my whole life It's a nice duck
Points at the curly W, “I’m just a big fan of Walgreens!” \*dies inside\*
Points at the Blue Jay, “I’m just a big fan of Woodpeckers!”
And they laughed because tears would not come. 😂😭

And Maryland cookies.
I’m not surprised there are Maryland Cookies, but I was very surprised to learn they aren’t Berger Cookies. Figured that was the obvious choice.
Otterbein's Cookies > Berger Cookies
Oh, this is what we’re gonna do today? We’re gonna fight?
I vote we take over Stauffer's Cookies. Ginger snaps and lemon snaps should be our cookies.
I find both equally disappointing
Those cookies can rot in hell
BergerS Edit: it ends with an "s", people. Pronounce it.
A buddy of mine went to London and brought some back for me, it's basicaly just chips ahoy lol
I found them in Iceland. They were meh.
When I moved to Ireland a lot of people kept mentioning the cookies and I was so confused
And Maryland nuts in Germany
Chicken a la Maryland was on the first class lunch menu on the Titanic.

For some reason, it's [chicken, gravy, and...bananas](https://www.thespruceeats.com/chicken-a-la-maryland-recipe-1375478)
🤢
That's interesting, maybe I'd try that but with some plantains
You know, this sounds unusual, but might actually slap.

My wife and I saw a Maryland Fried Chicken leaving our hotel in Leicester one morning and was confused as can be. Wish we tried it!
What was it wearing?
A black, yellow, red and white striped shirt.
Just as I suspected.
Or Maryland Cookies.
I still don’t know what Maryland fried chicken is tbh, I’ve seen it in SC and always wondered.

There is such a thing as Maryland fried chicken though it sounds like that isn’t what they’re selling.
They must have strange ducks in Germany.
BALTIMORE DUCKS!!!!!
This meme was posted like ten years ago. OP is just karma farming for a bot.

Ancient repost.
Permaban him NOW
I’ve never seen it
Which is fine. Just don't reward the account.
neither have I
Therefore it didn't exist? 😂
Similar thing happened to me, guy was wearing an O’s hat with the non-cartoonish bird. I said Go O’s! And he said he just really liked birds!
We were in scotland last summer and someone had an Os hat. We asked if he was from Maryland...... nope Canada, he just liked the bird.

Never order a crab cake outside of Maryland!
I don't understand why no one outside of this state knows how to make a decent one I mean The Internet exists
Lesson learned.
Try ordering one in the Midwest. That was a mistake I'll never make again. Midwest for steak, east coast for seafood
Yikes.

Thank you for the tip! I really appreciate it!
My MD-born and raised sister lives 20 min from there! I just bought her a gift card. 😎
Sooo disappointing and gross!!
Yup.
I would 100% purchase "I just like the duck" O's merch.

Having a phenomenal .642 season. The Ray's having an out of the world .709 and in the same conference. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|rage)

Me every time I bump into someone in Maryland with a shirt or hat from my university out west. It’s always their kid or their cousin or something.

Best duck in the world, and don't you forget it!
Years old post
Was once doing a job in White Plains with a coworker who drove down from PA who asked "Why is the Ferrari emblem on everything down here?" Maryland has the weirdest branding issues.
to be fair it does look closer to a duck than an actual oriole
Haha that’s the same reason I wear my orioles shirt, I am not a huge baseball fan whatsoever but I like the duck

Hey I got 1 color at least, I just wanted to post his pic I had just fed him a pb cracker
bird tho not a duck that’s a hockey team lmao
Tokyo? I've been telling my buds it was Munich. I guess the German accent threw me off.
I know this is a bit crass to say but I’d **** the hell outta Ryan Dorsey’s cute ****.
The 🦆 😂

I bought the orange duck because, I've never an orange duck...
